Hi! I have a few questions on the disney dining plan. What exactly are you allowed to get when you use the dining plan?

-For the 1 credit restaurants, can you order anything on the menu or are there only certain items? This goes for entrees and desserts.
-Can you order anything as a drink or only fountain beverages. For example, can you get a milkshake or one of the non-alcoholic fruity drinks at Tokyo Dining?
-Can you order an appetizer as an entree? For example, at Planet Hollywood I love the chicken crunch, but it's only on the appetizer list.

I appreciate any help with these questions! :)

Any entree and dessert. No appetizer with the regular plan. Drinks vary by place. 50's Prime Time and Sci-Fi Dine in allow milkshakes, I really am not sure about other places. A lot of these questions can only be answered by the place itself. Some will let you do things others won't.

1. You can order any entree and dessert from the menu. The only dessert exceptions that I can think of are the multi person Kitchen Sink at Beaches & Cream and the multi person desserts at T-Rex and Rainforest. A rare poster has said they were able to combine multiple adult credits for one of these desserts, but this has been the exception rather than the norm. Any item that says "for 2" will require 2 adults' entitlements.

2. The dining plans include a standard non-alcoholic fountain drink such as soda, coffee, tea, iced tea, lemonade --basically the drinks that include free refills at TS or are self serve at the resort food courts. Some of the Disney owned TS restaurants are more liberal and will allow a variety of other choices, but it will vary with the restaurant so you will have to ask if something interests you. We have ordered milk shakes, smoothies, virgin cocktails, pressed pot coffee and specialty coffees. Tokyo Dining is not owned by Disney so I wouldn't count it it to offer anything beyond the standard fountain beverages.

3. You cannot order an appetizer as an entree at a non-Disney owned restaurant like Planet Hollywood because they are reimbursed by Disney according to the rules of the dining plan. They will strictly enforce the rules of the plan so entrees will have to come from the entree section of the menu and the beverage will have to be a standard fountain drink. I've never tried to do this at a Disney owned restaurant when on the dining plan.

Thanks for the responses. I'm upset that I can get an appetizer as an entree, didn't expect that since the appetizers typically cost less than the entrees. I feel like I'm going to have to rearrange my plans now. Paradiso 37 is my favorite restaurant because of the mac and cheese bites on the menu, but if I can't get that it's not worth going and using a credit. :(

You should compare the cost of a trip with and without the dining plan. Even if you get it "free," you're paying full price for your room. A discounted room and paying for the food you want to eat might be cheaper.

I did out the math and the room off would only decrease our package total by just under $300.00 and we plan on spending about $900.00 in food so the free dining plan actually saves us $600.00. :)

If you want an app instead of an entree you could pay OOP for the app and save the TS credit for additional meals or 2 credit meals/dinner shows.
