We have the dining plan added to our reservations. Can someone tell me if there is some sort of fee or penalty if one guest doesn't show up and their DDP was not cancelled ahead of time? Our DDIL's sister has plans to join us so we added her to the plan since everyone in the room has to be on it. She is seeking employment and I'm afraid she may find a job at the last minute and not come after all. What happens if we don't cancel her from the room and dining plan? Plus I am also a bit afraid to call and tamper with our reservations at this late date anyway. I don't want to arrive and find they accidently cancelled the whole reservation. :scared1:

Unless you cancel 48 hours prior, you will have to pay for her whether she's there or not. I'd consider that a penalty. If it were I, I'd leave her off then add her back in late if she does plan to come. Better to have her present and not on the DDP than to have to pay for her not there at all.

I wish I had done that but unfortunately she's already been added to the reservation. What would happen if I take her off and leave her off and add her to the DDP at check in if she does join us? Would an extra guest make a difference since we already have the dining plan reserved for everyone else? It won't effect the room at all. We have a THV reserved and only four guests occupying it.
My biggest fear is MS making a mistake and cancelling everyone.
Thanks Dean.

The front desk can not make changes to or remove the dining plan at check-in. It must be done with MS at least 48 hours prior to your arrival date.

Thanks. Guess I'll leave things the way they stand now and hope she knows what's up prior to the 48 hours. Thanks again guys! :)

Just take it off then double check later that it's on there correctly. They put you in a catch 22 for your situation where you can't add or subtract at check in and at times, you really don't know who's going or not going until late, often after your trip starts. IMO it's the intent that drives the reasonableness issue or not. If you're uncertain decide whether you'd rather have her along and not on the plan or pay for her if she's not there and have the extra credits. Then when you know or when she arrives (depending on specifics), put it back on the front desk to make the decision. In reality, I've never known of them enforcing payment if someone else is there but not added to the DDP. I am aware of people that were able to add at check in but I think that's hit or miss.

Is there potential for abuse in this area, absolutely a huge potential, that's why I said intent is the main issue in evaluating a person's motivation. Ultimately the decision is up to Disney of how to enforce the rules and conflicts they've created. I know on several occassions I've had the DDP and needed an extra key for access when we had multiple rooms or had someone who needed access during the day and even overnight. In ALL cases they gave me an extra key that included the person on the DDP without payment but without extra credits.

Thanks so much for your input Dean. I swear I'm never going to invite anyone whose plans are not "written in stone" ever again. Makes it too darn confusing. LoL

It's really not that bad for most situations and families if they're honestly uncertain and up front with you. I would agree with not inviting anyone who has a habit of such issues already because they're the same person who's had issues before. One approach to take is to plan without them and then let them know that IF they can come you can discuss at the time whether it's still an option. That way you're not committed until they are. When the DDP is concerned, ask for payment up front and give them something in writing that acknowledges that it is not refundable.
