DDP Question - CS for TS?

I have never used the DDP. The reason, I have never been during free dining and my family prefers the CS meals. So we are considering going late August into early September. This would likely be during the free DDP period.

My question, since we are going for 2 weeks and we are not likely to eat at TS restaurants more than 4 or 5 times, can we use the rest of our TS credits for CS meals, straight up? Since it would be free, I am not concerned about equal value - I want to eat where I want to eat. Is this allowed?

During free dining in August/September, WDW usually makes an offer that involves trading a TS meal for CS plus extras. Last year it was either an extra snack (which you had to get at the same time you got the CS meal) or some sort of merchandise.
