When we went in August 2011, I was able to substitute a side salad or soup in place of dessert. Does anyone know if this is still possible? TIA

the vast majority of people on here report exactly the opposite...that they were NEVER able to substitute anything besides a piece of fruit (single piece, like a banana or the small prepackaged fruits like the kids' grapes or apple slices...but not the fancy fruit&yogurt or fruit medleys) OR a bottle of water. Most of the counter services are going to be pretty picky about not allowing other sides because the desserts are inexpensive pre-packaged items...usually less value than sides like salads or soup. Where were you at that allowed you to take a salad or soup for a dessert?

Now I have seen people allowed to get salad or a small cup of soup for a snack credit at resort counter service places...but the only salads allowed for a meal credit were the entree-type salads like the chicken Caesar salad

Thank you, guess I was lucky.

We did a split stay, at AKVK, and subbed soup at Mara 3 different times, also at SSR, our second part of the trip at Artists Palette.

Usually I am not too hungry, so would get soup, eat that and get a meal my 2 grandmunchkins would eat, so the three of us shared. We used their credits for meals they ate, we only did this when Grandma wasn't hungry.

The previous poster is correct in that for the most part, CS restaurants do not allow substituting sides for dessert, but they will for the most part substitute fruit or water.

We were on the dining plan (regular), we had previously used the deluxe, but could never eat all the food. I tried to substitute a different dessert than the white cake at Liberty Tree at dinner and my server said it would be an extra charge. So, I doubt that a CS would substitute a salad or soup for a dessert.:)

I think the CS locations at resorts are a little more lenient as to what they will substitue as a dessert. In the parks, not so much. We were always able to sub out a bottled water at the parks, but at the resorts we did last year (Poly and AKL) we were able to sub. a candy bar, bag of chips, fruit and the like for dessert. We were very appreciative for that option!

We were able to substitute last November at HS pizza quickservice. I didn't even ask. I just told her I didn't want the dessert and she offered. It wasn't just a water either. She gave me a few choices one of which was an extra salad although I have no idea why I would want a second one:confused3 with my meal....but hey it was really kind that she offered!
