At what point did you say "I'm done"?

I know blasphemy, there's no such thing as being done. But with my most recent purchase I finally feel like I completed what I had wanted from the beginning. A home resort for Epcot/HS, a home resort for MK, a home resort for AK although that's more just because we love the resort and a home resort for Hawaii. With us moving back home to CA I didn't feel like I'd truly utilize 11 months at DLR so we didn't purchase there but I feel like with out most recent PVB purchase I'm at the point where I finally want my resources elsewhere since unfortunately money is finite for us. Our points get us enough for 2 weeks in a 1BR at WDW every year and a trip to Aulani every 1.5 years in a 1BR and I think this is our "saturation point" if you will where even though more points is always nice, I don't have enough PTO for more time and I'm not going to buy points to try and bring my extended family because I can't guarantee they will even go or want to go. We're also hooked on going to Japan so we need to keep some PTO for that. I know I know, famous last words about the final add on. But for people who are truly done adding on and don't need anymore points, what was that saturation point for you?

I said I’m done in summer of 2023, fall of 2023, early 2024, Summer 2024, early 2025, fall 2025, and finally early 2026. This time I mean it.

I wanted one trip a year. I have enough for one trip a year. That's fine. There are lots of other things to do in the world, and DVC points are generally bad for anything that is not DVC lodging.
Was there a certain resort and room type and season you were aiming for for 1 week a year?

Seriously though, I’m really happy with my resorts and point total now. I think the only thing that could make me add on is if we find ourselves going more often with larger rooms once retirement and/or grandkids hit.

Roughly one week per year, in a 1BR villa in Season 6, with RIV as the home resort but the option to stay in others some years.

In other words---more or less the same thing I was doing with RCI/Interval exchanges, but with choice of resorts rather than taking DVC's leftovers.

I had originally toyed with the idea of alternating years between exchanging and owning and/or trying to make a studio work, but I quickly realized that I am not a studio person if I am there for more than a handful of nights.

We’re finally done. We kept adding on to make sure we had our trips covered and all it took was a tiny 25 point add on at RIV last year to get us set. I kept trying to juggle what we needed to make it all make sense and that little guy was the winner! We’re pretty set in which resort for which trips now and that made a HUGE difference in having enough!

How much time were you aiming for at WDW? I know you have VGC as well, how much time were you aiming for at DLR and what room types did you envision yourself staying in when you first started?

Do you feel like how your membership ended up is what you had planned for it to be in the beginning? Again same questions as the others, were there specific room types, resorts and seasons you were going for and how much time were you aiming for for your trips?

You know, I really didn’t think about it very much.

For sure in the beginning I was envisioning a studio, and wanted 1 week per year for each of my kids. Once we started using g the membership I realized we would go far more often than one week a year, and that we would want larger villas on at least some of those trips. So I eventually settled on getting enough for 1 week in a 2BR at each home at WDW, which at the time was VGF and RIV. CCV came later.

For VGC, I wanted to get into a 1BR for 4 nights every other year or a studio every year. DLR is small enough that 4 nights is plenty for us.

My "done" point has much more to do with the amount of MFs I can comfortably afford per year, than how often I want to go.

Kind of! We settled into a travel pattern we like and the add ons happened because of that, so it was fluid for a bit. That last 25 points has made a huge difference and we are now using that UY (we have 3) differently that we initially intended. The main difference for us from the beginning was enough points to stay in 1 beds sometimes rather than studios.

I’m pretty much done as we want to do 2-3 short trips and 1-2 longer trips at 1BR, and we have enough points for that. I do want to add LSL, so if that happens I will check if I need to sell a contract.

I don’t want to get to the point of having to take trips when we don’t want to just to use my points, and I’ve had to upgrade views to use some excess points.

When we get to retirement I’ll re-evaluate if we need to add more or shrink depending what we want to do. But that’s still a few decades away.

You have very good taste in home resorts lol, I'm still considering switching AKV to BLT down the line and then our home resort inventory will be even more similar. I don't think we'll ever add CCV though even though it's a great resort. Are you east/west coast based?

I’m east coast based. Funny thing, my first resort was AKV and decided to sell it as it’s super easy to book at 7 months and wanted to have resort priority at a resorts where it’s needed.
