DDP pre-paid?

The member I am renting from is requiring me to prepay for the DDP thru him. I am glad to do what he requires BUT the boards make me think this is not the norm? The member says if I do not take the trip planned he would be stuck paying for the DDP? Does this sound on the up and up? Jsut want to cover my investment. Thanks
 
You pay for the dining plan when you check-in at the DVC resort. Member services does not accept pre-payments, so there is no way for your owner to pass the payment along to the resort for your DDP. If you cancel your trip, the dining plan is also cancelled automatically. The only problem may be if you cancelled on the day you are scheduled to arrive at the resort.

Do not pay the DDP in advance. It may be that the owner you are renting from is unfamiliar with how the dining plan works.

The owner, however, must reserve the dining plan for you ina advance, no payment is required to do that. If the owner refuses to add the dining plan to your reservation, find another owner to rent from.

I would not prepay the member for the DDP. When you check into your resort that is when you prepay for your DDP.

This is a good example of how things can go wrong when 1 or both parties to a rental are inexperienced. Both parties may be well-intentioned, but if they are uninformed, misunderstandings and problems can easily arise.

Don't pay the member, you pay on check-in.
 
When we did the DDP we paid at check in and the CM asked us if we wanted to cancel it. That lead me to believe it can be canceled all the way up to check in.

Yes, DDP can be cancelled at check-in. We changed our reservation over Christmas so we were staying fewer days in WDW followed by a DCL cruise. I forgot to call in advance to cancel the dining plan, so they just did it at check-in.

It took about 10-15 minutes to check in because of this, but not a problem at all.
