Can you order anything? I know some items come with surcharges but just want to make sure. For example, pretty big difference between at Teppan Edo between ordering chicken and some much more expensive combination of items. Just want to know if we will be free wheeling on the menu or told that we must limit order to specific items.

you can order what ever you want to. Except an appetizer. You have to pay extra for that and alcoholic drinks. But any entree, dessert, and non alcoholic beverage is up for grabs....

Pretty much anything. There are a very few limitations, most of which are common sense. From the sticky in this forum:

Exclusions, limitations and/or surcharges may apply (especially at Downtown Disney restaurants). We will try to keep a full, up-to-date list of those here.

Limitations/Exclusions/Observations
• Tangierine Cafe - limits your dessert to Baklava only.
• The Lunching Pad - no dessert
• Teppan Edo - The salad isn't included as part of the entree - can be ordered as an appetizer on DxDDP.
• Yakitori House - Only certain combinations permitted. For example, Tonosama Combination is not included.
• Pepper Market - Dessert options with CS only allowed from Tier 1. (NOTE: In 2009 there have been a couple of reports that any dessert is included, but not enough reports to remove this from the list yet.)
• Spoodles - A Dessert "Sampler" can be ordered, but only by two Dining Plan guests.
• Raglan Road - Dessert "Sampler" is excluded. Appetizers “for two” can be ordered by two (deluxe) dining plan guests.
• Planet Hollywood - Aubriee reports that surf and turf is excluded.
• Wolfgang Puck Cafe - Sushi is considered an entree, not an appetizer.
• California Grill - Yoshi's Deluxe Sushi Platter and Snake in the Grass are considered entrees.

Yes (except for those very few limitations) Also, a note for those with kids. The children's menu at several places charges more for some options (Whispering Canyon is more for the skillet and I believe La Celliur it was more for the steak) HOWEVER, on the DDP we did NOT pay any extra. It was taken off just like any normal kids meal.

At Marrakesh you pay an upcharge on The combo platters Like the "nights in casablanca"
