DDP now or later

We have already booked our stay with Disney along with park tickets and the basic DDP. We are contemplating whether or not to keep the DDP. If I take it off the package that we have now can I add it back on later? Thoughts...

Is there a reason you want to take it off now? Why not just leave it until you make your final decision? As long as you remove it before your final payment, I don't think there will be a penalty. Someone chime in if I'm wrong on that please.

Leaving it on makes sense to us. If a discount comes out that will lower your cost of the plan you can call and switch to that.

While trying to decide whether to do the DDP I'd suggest looking at the average cost of the places you plan to eat and coming up with a total out of pocket cost. Sometimes it will be less than the plan would cost, but if you do lots of character meals it could be cheaper to go with the plan. Then you have to consider the convenience of having it taken care of ahead of time. Some of us really enjoy this, others would rather see and pay as they go. It's all up to you!

I would not change until I knew what my final plan was. I agree with others, start checking menus and figure out where you want to eat.

Take a look at the menus on allears or the Disney website to calculate whether the dining plan will work for your family.

If you decide to take the dining plan off your package, do it before the final payment comes due on your package which is 30 days before your arrival date. Once you are within 30 days if you remove the dining plan you will be charged a $50 change fee because your total cost will now be less. It can be added back on up to 3 days prior to your arrival date, but the cost will be due immediately and if added within 2 weeks of arrival date there is an additional $15 paperwork fee charged. While you could be charged an additional $50 change fee again, it is usually waived when adding a component.
