DDP. Is it worth it for one.

So there is always tons of talk about the DDP. I have a vacation booked in August where I am meeting with 7 other people. They are all excited about the DDP and having meals prepaid. I. however, am a WDW veteran and am wondering if it is worth it for me. Several mysteries remain. The plan costs me 382.20 for just me for the 7 days (6 nights) I have booked. The first night I will be getting in relatively late and not taking advantage of the plan. The last day I will be there mostly alone for the entire afternoon. . .so probably not taking advantage. I do like the fact that the meals are pre-paid and I do not have to worry about whether or not I can afford them, however, if I choose to drink, that is out of pocket. Any advice or suggestions. My ressie is separate from the other 7 so I don't need to purchase dining to enjoy our meals together. Oh, and I also don't eat sweets so dessert is out. If I can opt for an app it would be a consideration. . .just saying

You can't trade dessert for appetizer at table service. You might be able to trade it for something like a soup or salad but that would be up to the restaurant and you can't pick one off the menu.

Do you know where all of you will be eating? That would help in doing the math.

It CAN be worth it, but it depends on where you eat and what you order.

As to the desserts, with the QS plan, you can trade your dessert and/or drink entitlement for a snack item on the same menu. At TS, as PP said, it is up to the restaurant what, if anything, they offer as a substitution for your dessert.

probably not. unless you are doing a lot of buffets you will give up flexibility for not much savings if any. IMO. Kiddos help because it is a good value for them at buffets and they can order adult QS meals.

I'd look up the menus where you want to eat and do the math. I'm assuming if you are eating all your meals with them you will be doing one QS and one TS per day. If you don't eat desserts and have the occasional adult drink, I'm going to guess it probably won't be worth it for you.

IMHO, no. Too many desserts and you will probably pay more for food than if you paid out of pocket.

Its certainly not for everyone but it really depends on whats important to you. For my family it worked really well, the convenience outweighed what we would have saved paying out of pocket. For instance, on departure day as planned we had used all of our points. We decided to have breakfast before we left though and when my son wanted a $13.98 breakfast sandwich I told him no way lol. All week prior though we didn't think about it. I did the math and for my family and we would have saved $15 +or - a bit per person per day paying out of pocket. Maybe were are just big eaters and while there was plenty of food we didn't feel over stuffed, though we typically wouldn't order desert at lunch. On the regular plan we used a snack credit for breakfast, qs for lunch, and ts credit for dinner. There would have indeed been some savings that would have added up paying cash but in the grand scheme of what we paid for our vacation it was nice to have it paid for in advance.

If you plan on eating with your friends and they already have dining locations booked, take a look at the menus and see what you think you'd like to order. I find it can add up quite quickly but I'm one who enjoys a good steak dinner so often order steak when I'm at Disney.

If you purchase the plan, when you arrive all the credits for your stay will be added to your MagicBand. You can use them as you wish, they're not added daily.

If you're looking at 6 days of meals that works out to $63.70/day. Take a look at the locations you are planning to eat and the QS locations you might like to enjoy, throw in some snacks if you think you'll want those and see where you land. For me it's pretty close but I love, love the fact that I don't need to look at prices so since it's close I choose to purchase the plan and vacation without looking at prices.
