I'm looking into purchasing tickets from our local Disney Store and two of our party have APs they have purchased. If Disney came out with free DDP would we be eligable? I've been told that you have to buy a Magic Your Way tickets and dining as a package.

If Disney offers Free Dining, to be eligible you will need to book a Magic Your Way Package including room and the same tickets (minimum one day base passes) for each person on your reservation for the entire length of your stay.

Nothing you can do about the people with the APs, but it seems wasteful for you to purchase tickets from any source at whatever small discount offered PLUS pay the price of the one day base pass. But it's up to you.

With free dining, everyone must buy tickets. Free dining is not applicable to an annual passholder room/dining package, only to the room/tickets package. Everyone on the reservation must purchase the same type and length of ticket.

Disney doesn't care what kind of ticket or length of ticket you buy with your free dining package, only that you buy some sort of ticket. It's possible to buy a one-day base ticket for everyone on your reservation. Those with APs can keep the one day ticket and use it either for future park admission or toward the renewal of their AP. Those without APs can upgrade their one-day tickets to multiday tickets. To do that would mean you couldn't buy tickets separately at the Disney Store, though.

We ended up buying two AP's from Disney site itself yesterday.
Trip is planned for Sept 20-28, 2009.

The AP's were for DDIL & DS who will be in room #1(they are going back in Sept 2010)
We are going to book room #2 and 7day hoppers for DDD, DH and myself.

So by the sounds we are Kali rapids without a paddle in regards to free dining :(

If you book the second room separately from the first room (different reservation) and buy tickets with that package, you could conceivably add free dining to it when it becomes available.

You couldn't add free dining to the AP holder's room unless they also buy tickets. They could, however, buy the dining plan without having to purchase any tickets.

The AP holders I think would only have to buy a 1 day pass each. Which they do not have to use until maybe a year they don't have a AP or they could use the price of the 1 day pass to upgrade to an AP for a future year. This past Sept. 08 we got a one day pass and got free dining, but we had many hopper days left on tickets we had on our 2002 trip and decided to use them up.
