DH & I will have DDP. DSis & her SO will not. While the guys are golfing DSis and I want to have a nice meal somewhere. Can I treat DSis with my DDP credits as I would be using them for the allowed # of people to meals on the plan?

While that's not the way it's SUPPOSED to go, it definitely can happen and does. My brother and sister in law went to the world for their honeymoon and invited the rest of the family to join them. Our parents absolutely love Disney World and we've gone every other year since we were infants so to them - Disney wasn't Disney without the rest of the family. Anyway, they had a friend who was a CM and opted for the CM discount on their room at WL instead of doing the dining plan. The rest of us stayed at the Poly with free DDP. They keep track of the total amount of credits you have, and how you use them is your business. We were able to treat them to some of our DDP credits and made up for it by paying out of pocket at some of the cheaper restaurants on propety. I honestly wouldn't even bother mentioning it to the server and just rolling with it. For us, they saw a party of 7 and deducted 7 credits no questions asked.

Your key to the world card will show what dining plan you have and the number of adults and children on the plan. If you have 2 adults listed on your card, then you can charge 2 dining credits to your card. You can not try and pay for 4 adult meals if you only have the plan for 2 adults (as shown on your card).

It might happen, but I wouldn't count on it.(don't run up the bill and then expect it to be paid)

Not really a gray area, if she isn't paying for the DDP technically she can't use it.

Really? The way I look at it is you paid for 2 adult TS credits. Why should it matter who uses the 2 credits that day. To me the grey area would be trying to use 4 TS credits for all 4 of you. Go and have fun.

From the dining plan brochure:
Q. Can I use my Disney Dining Plan to redeem meals for friends or family members who are not included in my reservation or have not purchased a Disney dining plan?
A. Sorry, you may not use your Disney Dining Plan to redeem meals for friends or family members who are not included in your reservation or have not purchased a Disney dining plan.

I'd throw the ball back in their court. While I understand what the Q&A says, it's Disney's rule and they often don't enforce their rules. I'd simply ask if I can pay for the other person even though their not on the plan. BTW, they often don't enforce the rule for more than are listed on the plan either when asked.

So because Walmart doesn't persecute under the law for stealing small items, even though they are in their rights, does it make it right to steal from them?

The rule is clear, regardless if they enforce it. If it wasn't spelled out, sure, go ahead, but it is clear.

Pretty sure shop lifting =/= using more than the appropriate number of credits at a meal. While the rule clearly states intent of the plan, they paid for the credit regardless of who uses it. It's not a criminal action.

It is meant as an extreme comparison; but if you are utilizing a credit in a way that is in clear violation of the rule, it is stealing. You are taking something that Disney is providing for a price for a specific person and using for someone else.

Is it criminal, no, but you are breaking the rules; it's not a gray area, it is clearly spelled out. If Disney chooses not to enforce the rule, doesn't mean that its okay to break it.

Agreed. It is something that they did pay for. It isn't like they are trying to pay for 4 meals at 1 sitting. Also if you think about it, technically the snacks are probably only for the people on the plan as well. I can't tell you how many times I see people buying up snacks on their last day and take them home. Will the Disney police come to their house if they share with other?. What if they get a bottle of water and share it with a friend who is with them?

Bottom line is they paid for it, they are entitled to the food and they are not getting something that they did not pay for. I would not ask for permission, but I would also be prepared to pay if I had to.

If you want to talk criminal lets talk about charging 2 credits for lunch in Canada or 2 credits for pizza, or charging by sales price not weight when shipping from Disney World(just kidding). ;)

We did it once with a QS credit back in 2009. I don't know how difficult it would be to do with a TS meal, but I would think it would be fairly easy. An entitlement is an entitlement. I am not sure the servers pay very close attention to who is registered on the plan. Look at all the solo people in the bakeries and candy shops on their last day trying to use up all of those snack entitlements -- I don't see them asking for everyone's KTTW card . . .

Seriously, I have been a DVC member since 1996 and have been to disney soooo many times, but.....I come into town for a week and a couple of friends drive over for a day or two....but i'm not suposed to use the dining plan because they won't be there for the entire stay....give me a break! And don't get almighty on me either! I pay plenty and feel no guilt to give a dinner or a counter service to a friend that I'm not using. If its a problem - stop the program...at least restaurants won't be difficult to get into if they do!

Be careful what you wish for. Remember the DDP wasn't available to DVC Members for quite some time after it was introduced to cash guests as part of a package. If Disney sees DVC Owners disregard the rules on a regular basis, they won't discontinue the plan (it keeps the cash resorts full) they'll just make it unavailable to DVCers.

The plan is purchased under specific usage rules. Rules that were clearly defined in the brochures when you purchased the DDP. Just like park tickets, plane tickets, driver's licenses, and health insurance...all are not transferable, neither is the Dining Plan.

Also, DVC Board policies do not allow people to encourage others to break printed Disney/DVC Rules, or to discuss ways around those rules in posts. This thread is now closed.
