DDP for non members renting DVC

Thanks, Chuck.

This is the first year I've ever had to rent. I'm overseas for work, and I don't have all of my member literature with me, so I wasn't sure what the actual rules were.

I was originally trying to rent a large allotment of points, and after having trouble selling as a whole reservation, opted to split it up. I just wonder if having sold multiple smaller bookings to people in different states than mine (not to mention changing the name for a reservation multiple times when people backed out) would be perceived as suspicious, or as you say, an unusual "pattern of activity".

While technically there is risk to the member when they rent, it's really very little...
Thanks Dean, but we don't need your little doses of reality around here. (Next, you'll be telling me how my fear of flying is irrational because the car I drive to work is exponentially more dangerous than a commercial jetliner.)

Wow...thanks for all of the interesting responses. I didn't realize all of the issues that would come up along the way!

Can anyone clarify something? I thought Disney forbid renting DVC points, or it was something along the lines of you can "rent" as long as you don't accept money for it.

I was under the impression that you really shouldn't indicate that the person is a renter as opposed to a "friend". :confused3
As Chuck S posted, members are allowed to rent reservations.

However, the POS does specifically say that DVC members may not accept compensation for transferring points to another member. That's probably what you are remembering.

Thanks for that, Carol.

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I'm wondering if DVC not sending out confirmation slips by fax or email has anything to do with them trying to discourage renting.

It just doesn't make any sense to me. Every airline and hotel in the world will email you a confirmation number, and even Disney CRO will. But DVC not doing it really does get in the way, especially for someone like me who has had to make the decision to rent at the last minute. It makes it really difficult to give an anxious renter peace of mind.
