We rented points for our 2011 reservation and I understand that the policy now is that payment for adding the DDP would need to be made at the time it is added. With that being the case, would we simply be able to add the DDP at check-in rather than sharing our credit card info with our DVC "landlord"? If so, why wouldn't everyone handle it this way? The only issue I can see is if you wanted an ADR at a restaurant that requires payment up front, such as CRT. I'm assuming payment up front is waived if you have already booked the DDP. Any thoughts on this?

From my understanding the DDP needs to be added at least 48 hours prior to your arrival.

That is correct....from what I have read a conference call is needed because Disney won't accept the "Landlord" to pay with the renters card #. Other alternatives have been a paypal payment and the "landlord" pays the DDP.

Also, ADRs can be made up to 180 days in advance, and in order to get an ADR for many restaurants, you need to use much of that 180 days. Unless you want to be stuck with crap you don't want...

With our rentals we receive the funds from the guest via PayPal, MC or Visa and place the DDP on our credit card. Disney requires that it be added 48 hours prior to arrival.

Making 180 day reservations has no relevance to adding the DDP though. Well - it matters only for the very few reservations that have to be pre-paid. For those places, you have to have the DDP already to not have to pre-pay. But worst case, you pre-pay and get your $$ back at the restaurant and use your credit instead.

Also, IMO, you don't really need to book ADRs at 180 days out most of the time - just free dining, peak times and a few particular restaurants.

You can pay for the Dining Plan with a Disney Gift Card, have the renter get a gift card with the exact amount and call in that number :)

This sounds like a great idea. I was wondering how to handle this is in case I rent to anyone again in the future. I rented to two families this past year and both had the DDP. Both were booked early in the year with the first completed before it became an issue and the 2nd one was not affected because it was already in place when the changes occurred.

Thanks for the suggestions!!

This gift card ideas sounds awesome...I think I will run with it...

Let me know if the gift card works, we rented points for our next stay in February and I am considering paying for DDP with a gift card too. Thanks!

I 'rented' points to a friend/co-worker last month (made a ressie in her name and used my pts) and she wanted DDP -- I just called and added it and she was able to pay for it, with her own credit card, at check-in. Disney never asked me for my credit card info.

Reservations w/DDP made after 10/14 must have the DDP paid in advance when you add it to the reservation. What you described is the old way which can't be done any longer.
