DDP for a DVC Point Renter

We rented points for our 2011 reservation and I understand that the policy now is that payment for adding the DDP would need to be made at the time it is added. With that being the case, would we simply be able to add the DDP at check-in rather than sharing our credit card info with our DVC "landlord"? If so, why wouldn't everyone handle it this way? The only issue I can see is if you wanted an ADR at a restaurant that requires payment up front, such as CRT. I'm assuming payment up front is waived if you have already booked the DDP. Any thoughts on this?

You cannot add the dining plan when you check in. It must be added at least 48 hours before you check in. The only way is for you to pay the member you are renting from or to give them your credit card to pay for it.

I think there have been posts regarding getting a Disney gift card to use for payment rather than give the DVC owner the CC information.
