Hi,

We are booked into Fort Wilderness for 14 nights with the dining plan for 2 adults and a child. My brother, his wife and their child are hoping to join us for a week or so. According to Disney, all staying at FW have to be on the plan. Since we are unsure as to whether and for how long they may be joining us, I have not yet registered them. If they come, can I add them to site without adding them to the dining plan?

I believe everyone has to be on the plan as stated, I would strongly recommend using a travel agent, they don't charge anything extra and will work out the best deals for your situation. Email me at chris@wades4ever.com and I can give you the name and such of ours, she is really great and makes sure that we get the best deal possible.

My TA (who is doing the booking) said to leave the reservatation as is, and see what happens when/if they arrive.

I believe the answer to your question is that everyone, or no one, on your ressie has to be on the dining plan for each night of the ressie. So, if they are "joining" you, they would either have to get the plan for 14 days, or no one could get it. If they'll have their own ressie, they can do whatever they want.

Whatever you do, understand that the accounting system changed Jan 1, and you will not be able to purchase meals for them with your DDP. If you have 2 adults and 1 child, you'll only be able to use 2 adult and one child credit per meal. Treating is history.

Your TA should be able to answer your question. If they can't they should find out from Disney for you and get it straight form them rather than leaving it up to chance.
No one can arrive and book/pay for DDP upon arrival, not counting DVC members. So that would be out of the question.

Actually, I doubt a TA could definitively answer this question. I've never seen it definitively answered here on the DIS even -- the question being: What would the Disney resort do if you showed up at check-in with two extra guests? As others have indicated, the rules are that you cannot add or remove the Dining Plan to your reservation that late, but the rules are also that you cannot get the Dining Plan for only part of your party. So the only scenarios that comply with the rules are either (1) They require your extra guests to stay in another room, or (2) They allow adding guests (but not adding the Dining Plan itself).

Again, I've never seen a definitive answer to that question here on the DIS. If you do decide to pursue this based on any information you receive, I would get that information in writing on Disney letterhead, so there is no confusion for you at check-in. You want to have these details resolved BEFORE your vacation, so they cannot ruin the start of your vacation.
