DDP & DVC disagrement..

But did you also have the TIW card?

Nope! We don't like eating Disney's high priced meals for the whole trip so the TIW card doesn't work for us. A couple of Disney restaurants, a couple off property restaurants, and eating in our villa seems to be our usual pattern.

The current best DDP deal is the Deluxe DDP for only a couple of days during your stay. You get 3 TS credits with appetizers and 2 snacks per day per person and a resort drink mug. Using it next month we saved $200 compared to paying OOP for the same food at the same restaurants.

The problem is it's only a savings if you would have made the same choices without the DP and even then, it's only a savings above the other discount options (TIW, DVC, AP), not the list price. IMO, the specific choices of meals/restaurants is the most important variables. Certainly all forms of the DDP make sense for shorter stays compared to longer ones and for special situations like kids under 10.

Thanks for all the great responses..
We talked today and after i showed her a spread sheet and explained they would probably be left with 2 quick servive credites per person because of when they arrive and depart she understood.
I also expalined becasue they only have 3 day hopper passes and quick service is so limited at BCV, she would not be as happy with DDP as last time.

All is well again and we are excited about going next week.

We made a joint grocery list so everyone is happy again.

That is good, DDP has definitely changed in two years, so I think you made the right decision.

I have to agree and with the new way that DVC allows us to get it for some but not all the nights, it can pay off.

We are doing one night this August and we are doing 1900 Park Fare ($38) and Crystal Palace ($32). That alone is $70.00 with the plan being $79. So, for $9, I am getting a mug, a CS meal (which could be a TS meal if we wanted it to be), and 2 snacks. For this, it works out really well.

And, my cousin and her daughter are coming with us and they are doing CP and CRT. Since her daughter is only $21.99, it is a really great deal for them.

YEAH! Glad she came to understand the logic of not having the DDP!:thumbsup2

I'm glad to see that it all worked out. As you've read through this post there are many divergent points of view regarding the benefits of DDP vs. TIW. As one previous poster mentioned it all depends upon the make up of your group. We could never seem to get DDP to work with us, even when all six of our kids were younger and still at home. They never finished their meals. It got so that I never ordered a meal from the menu as there was more than enough left over for me to eat and still have a doggie bag to take back to the villa. When they reached the "adult" menu age their eyes were bigger than their stomachs and dad continued to be the walking garbage disposal. As our DDs and DS moved on and we joined the empty nest contingent the TIW card was still more cost effective for us. Many of the entres at the TS restaurants are so generous my DW and I found that we were able to split them, enjoy an appetizer, desert, and an adult beverage and come out ahead over the DDP. That's not factoring in meals in the villa. With the empty nest we now make multiple trips each year using the TIW which, for us, makes it a much better option. However we do have grandchildren that will soon be at the age to enjoy WDW which will definitely have an impact in the future.
