DDP Credit limit?

If me and my DH have the DP are we limited to only using one credit per person per meal? OR if we go to the new pizza place in Italy can we get 3 individual pizzas and use three credits? And can we go to Coral Reef and get 3 meals and use 3 credits??

If you have two people on the plan, you can't buy three meals with it in one transaction. You can buy only two.

You can buy fewer meals with credits than you have people on your room reservation and dining plan, but not more.

You can share your meals with the child. If you buy him his own, you would need to pay for it, unless you are at a buffet or all you can eat restaurant (or order the skillet at Whispering Canyon).

You can also register him as 3 years old to get a child's dining plan but if you are on a package with tickets you'd also have to buy him a child's ticket.

I'm a bit confused by this answer.

The dining plan brochure specifically says that you can use your snacks and meal credits in any way throughout your stay until your credits are depleted.

So, why wouldn't you be able to buy 3 pizzas with 3 credits if you want to try 3 of them?

When we had the plan, we had 4 credits left on one card at the end of our stay and only 2 people in the room, and we got 4 meals to go and took them to a condo off-site for the remainder of our stay.

well, you can certainly try it...and it may work.

But I have been in line behind people who were arguing that exact thing (brochure says I can use the credits any way I want)...arguing at first with the CM running the register, and then the manager. They were not allowed to get 3 meals on a 2 adult card...they ended up leaving a plate of food at the register.

But perhaps this is one of those depends-on-the-CM-you-get things.

We really do want to try three pizza flavors at the new pizza place lol and I would hope they would be alittle easier on us saying we really arent feeding feeding our 2 yr old.. whats he going to have one slice? I dont want to cause trouble its not that big of a deal either way but I agree that I should be able to given what the brochure says. We shall see.

The rule is to prevent dining plan users buying meals for people who aren't on their dining plan, which in the early years of the plan became a problem for Disney. As you want to order for your child they might overlook the rule as the child will be sitting there and they can see it is your child, but if you get a stickler for rules as a server, they might not.

I'd guess if you are a party of two adults and you want to order three meals they will say no (or they should) because when you have that third table service meal boxed up to carry out, they lose the control they are trying to keep over who eats it.

When a server swipes the card, does it come up with the number of people on the reservation or just the 'total number of remaining credits' like what it prints out on the receipt?

I'm just wondering how they would even know how many people are on the reservation unless it comes up with that on the screen AND they are paying attention to it and 'cross-checking'.

I thought that they only had access to the number of total remaining credits since they are lumped together for a room.

and in response to trying "all" the pizza flavors, could you get a 1/2 and 1/2 pizza? don't know the answer to this

If you're just trying to make sure you get enough food so that your 2yo can eat, I think overall you won't need an additional meal to feed him. The portions are HUGE at most places around WDW. You can order an extra side dish, appetizer or kids meal as well and just pay OOP for that.

For the pizza place, you could always pay OOP for the 3rd pizza if the CM won't let you use a CS credit. If you're already expecting to have to order extra food at some meals then chances are you'll run out of credits before the end of your trip and have to pay OOP for a few anyway. Just pay OOP for this one. You can ORDER whatever you want when you have the DDP, you may just have to pay OOP for some things. Ask your server when you first sit down so you'll know what to expect.

Yes, the card does show how many adults and children are in the room so yes a server can easily see how many they should be allowing.

This is correct. The server does not even have to swipe the card to know how many people are on your plan. The information is printed right on your KTTW card. Two adults on the plan (and no children) would plainly say "2 A". If it was 2 adults and 2 children, it's printed right on the card as "2 A 2 C"

And at least some servers DO look at this before you order...when traveling with our son & his guest, at many table service restaurants the server asked to see our card first to "verify our dining plan". Time after time, they'd say something like "are you in 2 separate rooms? I'll need one card from each room, thanks." The only way they could know that they'd need separate cards is by noticing our card said "2 A" when there's 4 people at the table.

They don't even have to swipe the card...there's no "access" needed. The actual number of people on the dining plan is printed ON the card itself, so all they need to do is look at the card you hand to them--the info is available before they ever begin to ring it up. Two adults/no children shows up on the card as "2 A". It's been this way for several years...

I will say this:

We had it happen to us, unwittingly.

We are (usually) a party of 2 adults, 3 kids...the youngest has been under 3 for all her trips to WDW.

During one of our trips, we wanted to order our youngest her own meal...with the full intent to pay OOP for it. We told the server that.

She forgot when ringing us up, and charged us 2 adult and 3 kids meals on the DDP. It was fine (we knew we'd be paying OOP later in the trip anyway, so 2 at once or one twice works the same), but it shows the system will allow it.

Now, whether the server will or not?? That I don't know.

So they would want to use three TS credits to buy an extra adult pizza for the child (although it appears the parents wish to eat the majority of that pizza themselves). This really isn't the reason WDW enacted that per transaction rule as all of you are on the same room reservation but the kid just isn't eligible for DDP credits yet, so you can always ask if you can do it. It doesn't sound like they want to buy that pizza and give it to someone who isn't on their dining plan.

Then I think it will be up to the server as to what they want to do.

We were on the DDP for 9 nights in June. Our last night was at MK and we were eating at Tony's Town Square. We had 4 extra meals that we had not used. The waiter let us order 4 extra meals and we took them to go. He said it was not a problem at all.

My bad; you're right. OP was talking about TS meals.

I do suspect that they'd be able to do this as you're right that they'd be wanting to use the credits in a completely legitimate way and it'll be clear that it's a legitimate way since they'll be eating there in the restaurant without anybody else joining them.

OP, ask when you sit down. Worst case scenario is that you'll have to pay for the 3rd pizza OOP or you don't order the 3rd pizza. With that being the worst possible outcome of asking, I can't see why you wouldn't.
