DDP: Can't we choose?

On the basic DDP, I really wish we could choose between an appetizer or dessert. I don't even care about the value, I just not much of a sweets kind of gal and I typically don't enjoy desserts. I usually just order a single scoop of vanilla ice cream.

They've changed it for better and for worse in 2008/09... one thing I do like is that I choose the amount of gratuity. 18% is a fine amount but it really seemed like some CMs thought.... goodie! I am guarenteed 18%, I'm now going to focus on the table who is paying OOP to get more money from them.

I just wish I could choose between the appetizer and dessert Oh well, maybe 2010.

while on the phone w/ a CM for DDP ressie's he said that many of the CM's are suggesting that very thing to the WDW decision making people (do they have a special name -- anyways.... that would be perfect b/c they wouldn't be losing any money on the deal......

this topic has been discussed here many times, as you can image.

i think the biggest reason they won't is that one person would order appy and share and one person order dessert and share. tables would take longer to turn over. Not only that, but some numbers guy/gal will come along and tell you how much more profitable it is to have desserts only

Yes they would.

If they allowed the choice, I almost bet you'd find with two people (or 4, 6, etc) one would get an appetizer and the other a dessert and they would share the two. There is no benefit for Disney in this. The tables would be tied up longer than if everyone at the table orders the same courses.

People who are paying for appetizers not included on the plan, are producing additional income for the restaurant which off sets the additional time spent.

Maybe they will eventually change it.But as of now they do not permit it even for medical reasons.I would also love the choice.
