DDP at check in?

I just had a friend return last week from Saratoga Springs. He told me that you could add the dining plan on your "Key to the World" at check in. He already had his tickets before leaving. We leave next week and would love to do that but I was under the understanding that you had to add them to ticket or a new MYW package.

If you can do this, that would be great! By the way, what is the current cost of the DDP? We have 2 adults and 2 children. Thanks for any help! :confused3

If you are a DVC members or other person staying on DVC points, Member Services is supposed to be notified ahead of time (at least two to five days ahead of your reservation start).

DVC members can add the DDP without purchasing a package. If you are renting directly from Disney, you have to purchase a package that includes the room at Rack Rate and tickets for all guests staying on the reservation.

I've not read anything that is specific about how far ahead you must add the DDP if on a DVC reservation at a DVC resort.

Perhaps it could be 5 minutes ahead. Or right before the CM at checkin processes the reservation.

But it does have to be through member services according to DVC.

And MS is closed on weekends....oop, there are now Sat. hours too.

Current price for adults is around $38. Forget the kids price but it is a steal!

Wanted to add that I would not wait until day of checkin personally.

But I do wonder what the actual constraints are. :confused3

When I go to Disney and have added the DDP, I have already added it, I pay at check in, the credits are added to my key. Is that what your friend is talking about? All of our room keys had the DDP added to them and when I asked why each key had credits on it, she said," in case we wanted to eat at different places." Which makes perfect sense, especially if you are a large party and do you counter services at different locations. I have purchased this plan 4 times and it has worked this way all 4 times.

They are pretty consistent about saying that you must add the Dining Plan prior to check-in. I wouldn't expect to be able to add it at check-in.

I agree with Bicker. I was just informed again, yesterday by MS that the dining plan needs to be added before arrival. I'm sure if you come across a uninformed CM they have the capabilities to add it, but I would not want to chance it.

I would not chance it either as I said.

DVC is very clear that it must be done prior to checkin. What is unclear is how much time is needed to add it. One day, 12 hours, 5 minutes? :confused3

I don't think a CM can add it at checkin...uninformed or not. From one of the DVC mailings it sounds as if it is a systems issue.

I think Kimberh may have hit on what happened. The OP's friends may have been staying on points and hence didn't need to purchase tickets. So perhaps they called MS ahead of time to add the plan but were just referring to having the the prepurchased tickets and prearranged DDP added to their keys.

At any rate, d96j97 as Deb said only DVC reservations at DVC resorts can add the DDP without purchasing a package that included tickets.

I suspect the Dining Plan needs to be added to the reservation before control of the reservation is passed from the reservations office (Member Services, in the case of DVC) to the resort itself. This typically occurs two to four days prior to check-in.
