I am considering the DDP for our trip to WDW in April. One concern I have is that I know at some of the restaurants my 11 yr old DS is not going to like any of the entrees. I am guessing he is going to want to order from the kids menu.

So my questions are:

1) Can he order off the kids menu even though he is using adult DDP?
2) If he is going to order from the kids menu, is it better to just pay OOP?
3) If he just gets an appetizer, can we pay OOP for his meal and use his dining credits for some else in our group at a future meal?

Any suggests would be helpful.

You can pay oop for his meal and save that credit. I'd do that and add an extra meal later in the trip. Credits are not divided by person but by room. So there is no harm in that at all!

I had an 11 yo "adult" on the DDP in January. Very picky eater and only wanted chicken strips.

We ended up doing mostly buffets (character meals) but also had a couple menu table services. We ended up getting him a kids meal and using his adult credits later in our trip for an extra meal.

The only place that had any issue with our dining choices was WGP Cafe. We were giving ds the kids meal and our younger dd was spliting my entree. The waiter acted a little miffed and wasn't very attentive.

We've never had any problem paying OOP for some parts of a meal and using credits for the rest. Just tell your server who is going to be on the DDP and who is not and there should not be any problem.

If your DS wants to eat something off the kids meal, then it is much more economical to pay OOP, as long as you are going to be able to use the credit later on (there is not point in saving the credit and not using the credit). The only place where it would still be better to use the credit (even if he didn't want to eat much) is at a buffet because here he would be charged the same as the adult.

We've split entrees, appetizer, and/or desserts and never felt like the servers frowned upon this. So hopefully you'll have a good experience as well.

1) Can he order off the kids menu even though he is using adult DDP? Yes. If you are going to pay with his adult credit, ask if they will make an "adult sized" portion.

2) If he is going to order from the kids menu, is it better to just pay OOP? Definitely, if it is going to be a child's portion.

3) If he just gets an appetizer, can we pay OOP for his meal and use his dining credits for some else in our group at a future meal? Yes. It's a great way to have credits to use for the 2 credit shows like Hoop de Doo or Spirit of Aloha luau or the 2 credit Signature restaurants.

.

He would be charged as an adult is at buffets and all you care to eat family style restaurants.
