Hi all,
I am not trying to take advatage of Disney... but my 10 year old, that is counted as an adult on the DDP, does not eat big meals. It seems like a waste of an adult TS meal if he does not order apps., adult meal and dessert. Could we pay for his (child menu) meal and credit the adult TS for a later date? Or, am I kidding myself and this is just trying to get something for nothing. Any suggestions? I thank you in advance.

Most restaurants will let you pay OOP for some meals and share.

They won't let you share at buffets, all you can eat and pre-plated restaurants though.

Some people don't do the dining plan just because their child is 10 or 11 and eats like a bird. I'm facing that decision this year since my DD just turned 10.

Good luck.

I don't see any problem with saving adult credits. Things get ugly when people try to save child credits and use them for adults. If all of your credits are adult credits then it won't matter how you split them up.

I don't see a problem with doing that ... I have the same situation with my 11 year old daugher .... sometimes even the 15 and 17 year old. I don't see how adults can eat appetizer, entree AND dessert in one sitting!!! Well, maybe DH could!! :goodvibes

We are going during the free dining plan promo just because I would never pay for the plan the way our 11 & 13 yr olds eat. Most likely, they will prefer something off the kids menu as they are not adventurous enough to try some of the gourmet quality food offered on the plan. It has been a challenge to find restaurants we are all interested in trying. It would have been very frustrating for me to pay for the plan and have my kids turn their noses up at the menus of most of the full service restaurants. The kids aren't picky...just boring! :confused3

Don't forget to book a nice signature dining place to make use of those credits - a lot of people find they have extra credits at the end of their trip.

we've faced a similar situation w/dd 11 and here's our experiences... yes, if she wanted a kids' meal she could have it and we could either OOP or she was also able to get the adult appy, the kids entree, and the adult (or kids') dessert and use a TS credit... since she loves caesar salad we often went that route... another option is to have an adult meal tailored to your child's tastes (i.e. at lecellier she had the surf 'n turf, dad ate the lobster and we ordered the filet mignon completely plain w/plain pasta on the side instead of smothered in sauce w/risotto)... as long as you are not appearing to take advantage of a generous dining plan (imo) then they are more than willing to accommodate :)

thanks everyone!

My DS10 is still in his "eat to live" phase of life where as his me and dad are in our "Live to eat" phase. His chicken tenders and pizza are standard fare. Trying new and exciting foods is just not his idea of a good time. I appreciate everyone's view and I see a common thread in that... Maybe... 10 year olds are not all into eating a whole lot of yummy foods.
