The cost actually went up about a month ago. I know it's $58.66 for adults for the regular DDP, $104.?? for the DxDDP and right at $40 for the QSDP, but don't have the kids' prices since I don't have any and try not to confuse my poor little brain with more than it needs to know.

I believe it is $18.88 for kids. I really can't believe how much it has gone up. We haven't used it in two trips, and use TiW instead. When we go next year, our oldest will be 10, so that means it would cost about $1750 for 9 nights! :scared1:

We just did a 10 night stay in April, ate very well, including signatures and character meals and only spent $1018 in food. Its very clear that the DDP is really so far from being a good value for us anymore. :worried:

I'll one up you - DH is a HUGE lover of the Dining Plan. It is the one non-negotiable point of our Disney vacations - He doesn't care where we stay, what we do, or where we eat. BUT he wants everything pre-paid before we leave. (which is a good thing) -BUT on our next trip we will be the proud owners of a 10 and 11 year old. Our 9 night trip will cost us about $2100 :scared:

1) Even if DDP is more than paying OOP?
2) Which is often the case.

1. Yes.
2. I don't disagree with you!
3. When paying OOP I tend to worry about food costs. Which...
a. leads me to order things for myself that will save us money.:worried:
b. upsets my DH that I am not ordering what I really want.:headache:
4. We are the reason Disney invented the Dining Plan. We pay a premium for convenience. :teeth:

Same thing for us, TIW works out much better. We spent less on our las trip for the price of TIW, all food including snacks, AND alcohol than we would have on the deluxe dining plan (we eat at mainly TS restaurants so the basic DDP is too few TS credits and too many CS for us). And sometimes, like at lunch, I get an appetizer as my meal...,or two appetizers as my meal at dinner. No worries if a credit will cover it or not. And we ate well...character meals, two signatures, and ordered what we really wanted to eat. Love the TIW card! In 2014, the deluxe dining plan would cost us a little over $2600 for the 4 of us on a 10-night trip, and our oldest will still be only 9!

Thanks for the info. Helping with $$ on which plan they choose.

Why not take the money that you would pay for the DDP and put it on a Disney Gift card. That way you have all the money set aside and in sense it is pre-paid but you could also use the disney gift card for leaving gratuities too. Then at the end of the trip you can spend the rest of the gift card amount on whatever you want or just save it....That is my plan cause I like the idea of having everything paid up front but it doesn't make sense to me to pay more just to have the DDP vs. paying OOP.

This exactly. While prepaid is nice, paying an extra $750 for prepaid is just silly, IMHO. We do exactly this, we buy a Disney gift card ahead of time and use it to pay for everything. This way we are not constantly pulling out cash or our debit card all the time. :goodvibes

I think that I will need to do the math by looking at the menus next time - because your idea may be better - great idea

We wont pay for the dining plan, but I tend to do the same thing as you..I just have a habit of not wanting to order expensive things even if we have the money..I always order water when we go out to eat, also I wont pay the prices for the disney buffets...I cant make myself pay 150 for our family for breakfast, not that we cant afford it I just cant do it..:confused3 We do have Ohana booked and its a splurge for us and we love it so I will pay the 200 its going to cost us but its killing me.. I will take it when its free but I wont pay for it..

IMHO, 3a and 4 are the only reasons for getting the Dining Plan. Oh, and Free Dining when there are no other deals on offer.:rotfl2:

thinking along that same line. My suggestion would be to buy $200 less than the cost of the DDP, a 10% + savings, and see how that works. You can track your progress fairly easily.

I'm very much a to each his own kind of person. I found the DDP has not worked for us for a number of trips. Some of that is due to changes in our touring and dining style, but a lot of it is the change in the DDP value.

I understand people gain a level of comfort not having to worry about what the bills will be when they get home. I look at the numbers before every trip and they just keep going down in value for us.

C'est la vie

Me and my daughter got the dinning plan and we enjoyed our meals but did find in the end paying oop would have been cheaper... The following trip we did oop and found I was worrying about what we spent and ordered and didn't feel like I was satisfied with where and what we ate... Next year we are going to do the ddp ..

We did the dining plan last year for the first time & loved the convenience of not having to worry about how much everything is going to cost when we order.

What is TIW that was mentioned?

I do the breakdown each trip. At the trip gets closer I know which TS meals I'm doing, which CS we are likely to eat and do the math. Two trips ago DDP saved us money. Last trip it wouldn't have. I did think we all over-ate on DDP. Now that we can but TiW, I think that is best for us.

See, this is what always gets me. If you look at the pricing of the character buffets, it's not as expensive as people make it out to be.

Ohana breakfast in December is $26.62 pp including tax. So for your family of 5 Disney adults, that's $134, not $200. That's still a lot for breakfast, but it's a long way from $200.

AND the value of a DDP TS credit is $38, so if you get the DDP because someone said you need it if you want to do character meals, you're paying $11 MORE for this meal than if you paid OOP!!

This is us. We saved $300 paying OOP this past trip. Actually we saved quite a bit more because the total I used to compare what we actually paid vs. what the DDP would have cost, included our alcoholic drinks and tips.
And we never once worried about what to order because of the price, we ate exactly what we wanted, which would have been exactly what we ordered on the DDP.

This is a great idea! And if you're afraid you won't spend all the money at WDW, you could put it on a Visa gift card instead and then use it anywhere, even at home if anything is left over!
