This is my situation. I am sharing a 2 BD at the VWL w/another family. We will be using the DDP. I understand that all our credits will be combined (6 adults, 2 children). I also understand that we can charge things to our room key which gets paid by our credit card. The other family will have their credit card on their room keys. What if I want to buy a bottle of wine, does it get paid by my room key that is associated to my credit card? or can we use only one credit card for one room? Thank you

It depends.

Some folks have reported being able to have certain room keys associated with certain credit cards and keeping the whole thing separate.

I have done multiple family trips before and have NEVER had a front desk CM that know how to do that.

So what we do is put a card on the room key and then each night grab a printout. You can tell who charged what on the room bill by matching the last two digits on the room key.

Each morning, we would then drop by the front desk and tell them we want xx amount charged out to this credit card, then xx amount charged out to the other credit card.

We did this almost every day because we normally stay at Value resorts and their "limit" is $500 before your cc is charged out. (This was before the dining plan, so even our meals were charged on the room keys).

Since you are staying at VWL, it will be $1500 before the cc is actually charged, so you may only need to do this right before the end of the trip. Especially with the dining plan, so you'll only have basic purchases, not every meal.

The simple solution is just to put any non-DDP covered items on your credit card at the restaurant. They will be doing a separate bill for those items anyway, why not settle it before it becomes a problem?

Actually, I'd do that for everything, including retail purchases. I wouldn't charge anything at all to the room in that situation. I don't think all eight of you want to spend an hour at checkout figuring out which charges got put on the wrong credit cards!

One thing all of you need to be aware of is that everyone's DDP credits will be available on everyone's room keys. When you get a receipt, the credits shown will be for the entire party. So everybody's going to have to keep their own scorecard on who's got how many credits.

DDP credits can be a license to steal if any of those "Adults" are teenaged bottomless pits.

I agree. I think we'll just use our charge cards instead of our room keys. I would hate to deal with sorting out who owes what at the end of each day. Not only am I on vaca but my brain cells are too.:rotfl2: Thanks

It's probably a good idea to not have charging privileges on room keys anyway with the Dining Plan. That helps prevent inadvertent mistakes where your meal would be charged to your room account instead of your Dining Plan credits.

This is a very good suggestion. We occasionally see situations where there is some glitch in the acceptance of DDP credits, and the default fix for that is room charge. In fact, we've seen a few situations where the CM's have said, "OUR system is not working right, so YOU straighten it out at your resort in the morning!"

With two families involved, declining room charge privileges could really save a LOT of advanced accounting work at the end of the trip when you're least able to make the brains function.
