Hi

we have a group of 20 people going to disney next year. we were going to order meal vouchers since we are staying on points for dvc but been reading that this may be the last year for them. so i was wondering if i could get your thoughts on this: do you think it would be more cost saving to

-purchase the dde and use it for the discount. i read that we get 2 cards. is each card good for 10 people if we sit at seperate tables. or

_hope the meal vouchers stay around for another year.

thanks for your thoughts and ideas on this

Vouchers have traditionally been more cost effective at counter service places and not cost effective at table service.

DDE will take 20% off your bill - including alcohol at most sit down restaurants but only a few counter service spots.

We just purchased our DDE, and although we will be receiving two cards, they are linked to a single AP, so I'm not sure that you will be able to do what you propose. Perhaps you will need to get two DDE's?

We did the same thing. Took 20 people to Disney for Christmas 2 years ago. Then each card was only good for 6 diners, but you did get the extra card for your spouse.

What they did was ring up the first 12 diners, take off the 20%, then ring up the last 8 separately. So yes, they did let us use both cards on one ticket.

Now, the rules have changed a little bit since then, so I'd call to make sure. I know it says "for up to 10 diners on the same bill" so you can't be splitting tickets. We just kept alternating who paid or kept a running tab that was settled at the end.

Even if you have to buy 2 memberships to cover all 20 people, it is worth it. We saved the cost of the membership (then $75 since my AP had lapsed!) on ONE meal for 8 of us. :teeth: It was at Wolfgang Puck's....we had several appetizers, everyone had an entree, lots of desserts, and drinks all around, several times, including a bottle or two of good wine. :) LOVE that little card!

DDE is one of the best deals going! It's even good if you just go to one of the lounges for drinks :) Did that a number of times, too! :teeth:

What exactly is the DDE? I didn't find it on the list of abreviations.

DDE = Disney Dining Experience

We are thinking of trying it out this trip. Does anyone know if this can be used at Character Breakfasts?

Yes it can be used for character breakfasts!!

And DDE is a card that can get you 20% off most sit down restaurants. Its is available to AP holders and FL residents only

Are you a FL resident or AP holder? If not, you cannot join the DDE.

Thanks Cobbler !

another question ... Both DH & I have APs ... Do you know if we can each get our own DDE card (each paying the $50. for a card)?

We are going as part of a group of 20. I figure that way DH can be on a check with 1/2 the group & I can be with the other. While we aren't doing all meals together, we do have 4 ADR's scheduled (2 character, 1 resort & 1 park) as a group of 20. We are trying to decide;

1. if it is possible to get 2 different cards &
2. if it will be cost effective to get 2 cards.

I have figured that with the character breakfasts alone - 20% off of our entire group of 20 we could cut our bill by $128. - which is a definite savings ... however, it is DH & I putting out the $100. for the cards (if it is possible) & we only really need 1 card for our part of the group. If we do only get one card, and the bill comes, how does the server determine which 10 guests get the 20%. (there are 15 A & 5C).

Maybe I should ask this over on the Restaurant Board? the Budget Board? Am I over thinking this??

I don't see why you couldn't each have your own DDE account, but you will both have to be at different tables with 9 others as you can't split the checks at one table. I don't know if this would require you to have two ADRs, each for a party of 10, or if you can do it with your party of 20 on one reservation.

Each card is good for 10 so if you put 10 with one card holder and 10 with the other, you should be set. The DDE rules say you must get the card for the Spouse but I know many have lied and gotten it for another person as well. I personally couldn't do that. Of course you could get two totally separate card accounts for two different people.

Had 10 first week in May saved over $600. :Pinkbounc

i am trying to think of ways to save some money for all of us. as far as the dining, we are going to be there a total of 3 days. friday before the cruise and then the following saturday and sunday. do you think since we are only going to be there a few days it would be cost beneficial to do the dde? there will be 20 of us

thanks

I figure that one dinner at Artist Point for the 5 of us will cover the cost of the DDE plus give us additional savings, so yes, I am sure you will save using the DDE card after paying the $50 cost of the card.

Assuming you already are an AP holder, the DDE will cost you $50. To break even, you would have to spend $250 at participating restaurants.

Do you think you will spend more than $250 at participating restaurants for the 3 days? If so, DDE is the way to go! If 10 of you all go to just one sit down dinner, you should easily save with the DDE card - think of the DDE card as a "pre-paid tip". We plan to just pay the bill and let the 20% discount be the tip (assuming good service, of course)!

Best wishes -

Remember another benefit of the DDE is Complimentary Parking I read through this for several years without reading down to the bottem "When dining at a WDW Resort, valet parking is also complimentary. After dining, present a dining receipt at the valet stand." We notified the valet when we arrived that we had dining reservations and the DDE we just showed our card when we left.

Another great benefit we never used until our recent trip.

since we have 20 people going and will need 2 dde cards- would we need to get two ap's or could the 2nd person i get a card for use theirs for the other 10 people?

thanks

You will need to be two parties of 10. You can only use one DDE card per group, regardless of size. I just read that fact online earlier today.

From what I read previously, you would need two different DDE accounts. Even if you broke into two groups of 10, it would be the same DDE account on both cards if two people shared an account.
