DDE thoughts

Several years ago, our DDE was denied at Narcosees on our ENTIRE bill. The waitress had never heard of it. The manager onsite was an "intern" and she had never heard of it either. They ended up giving us a 10% discount on food only. It was an anniversary dinner for us and we were very disappointed. After contacting DDE and the actual restaurant manger, he said he would make it up to us on a future visit, however, when the future visit materialized, we could not contact him - after trying for several weeks and numerous attempts.

We've not been back to Narcoosee's since and only renewed our DDE plan for our upcoming Christmas/NYE trip. Now with rumors of the entire week being blacked out (which I hope are only rumors), I doubt we will renew again.

So, OP, don't feel bad. You're not the only one whose ever had problems using the discount.

Wow. If that happened to me, I'd ask the "intern" to either ask the other
servers (since I cannot believe every server would be ignorant) or call
another GF restaurant to get the info. That incident just boggles my mind.

I don't know what it is with me and beverages/DDE. :confused3
Usually I just hand over the card. Then when I get the bill I see no discount on beverages. Our beverges are generally ice tea or Coke, so sometimes I just let it pass and don't say a thing.
This last time was the only time it was refused.
If there were more than 2 of us, I would renew. But we really debated how much it really saves us. We use to eat at WDW once a week at least. And find ourselves eating there less frequently.

Now, I'm new to the DDE, but what I noticed is the Beverage Line Item is only used for alcoholic beverages. Ice tea, soda, juice, etc. are included in the Food Line Item.

If you have a receipt, check the math and see if I'm right. (I'd go get one of mine from last week, but Empress Ebony is one my lap and must not be disturbed.)

The last time DH and I used the DDE was at the GF Cafe for breakfast. We were refused the discount on our beverages (juice, coffee). The server insisted only alcoholic beverages are included with the DDE discount.
Everything I have ever read was a 20% discount is on all food and beverage (including alcohol) for up to 10 people, at participating Disney restaurants.
And frankly, unless I have a piece of paper with me to prove otherwise I almost always have to ask for the discount on beverages. This was the first time I was refused and even argued with once the server checked into it further. :confused3
Between that, the cost, the block out dates, etc, DH and I cannot believe it, but we don't plan on renewing our DDE next year. :scared:
It has been very handy. But almost getting so not worth the trouble. And almost always it is just the two of us, and we can actually more easily dine off site than on.

We just got back from a long weekend trip earlyier this month and non-alcoholic beverages were discounted as usual. I think the server was misinformed.

You are correct about the above.

That really must be aggravating! We've ordered many an ice tea, hot tea, coffee , juice etc. along with meals using our DDE card and never had an issue.

So are they presenting you with a separate check for your beverages?

Luv2Roam, I think Redwitch solved your mystery. I just looked at a receipt for a lunch that included no alcohol. It does list a zero discount on the beverage line but the drinks are included in the food discount. I did check the math and there was a 20% discount on the total.

And maybe that is what confuses servers too. But I often do not get discount on beverages and need to ask for them. Anyway... on to a different topic...
