DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

So...just had this show up in my email.

For those of you who aren't technical, there are a few key pieces of information to tell if an email is legitimate or not.
From: who sent the email
To: is it addressed to me

Well, this email says it's from fayishanabeela@gmail.com
It says it's to: pbrown4480@att.net (not my email address)
It then says to send resume to cockersantina@yahoo.com

Email itself:
Our Company is getting back about application on a Careers Builder.
We have seen that you match our conditions for position of Purchasing Specialist.

Your salary rate is $92,200.00 to $117,800.00 a year for a long term employment.

Post background:

Please, add your Resume if you are interested to this email: cockersantina@yahoo.com

All Resumes will be reviewed and only people who match our hiring criteria will be reached.

So, I'm debating about sending a bogus email to them with a resume for Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse.

Man, I hate spammers and scammers! Especially when they're trying to prey on someone looking for a job....that person could be unemployed and have to deal with this garbage.

On the one hand...
While I do love playing with scammers (done a fair bit, but mostly on the phone), it depends on my mood. Sometimes it's a straight <click>, other times I play with them.

294 miles yesterday and 294 miles today. Total drive time was 9 hours. I'm tired. Ready for some bourbon and beer chaser.

And, in some good news, Governor Thanos conceded after the recanvas. So, I get 4 years to not have to worry about getting laid off or pension cut. I know I'm working to December 2020, and should be able to finish out my 27 without issue now.

Hey, Dads! So an update on my job situation: I've had an informal interview yesterday right after lunch, and I was led to believe that they aren't going to consider anyone else until they hear from me that I still want the job. When I mentioned this to the wife after work, she asked me if I said yes, and I said, "Not yet, don't want to seem too desperate or eager" She didn't like that answer, but that's how I've always done it...make them want me more. Don't know the time frame on getting the job, but I was under the impression that if/when I say "Yes, I'm still interested." it'll happen quickly...unless they decide to play games and hold off. I was told that they wanted to add another person to the department (on top of adding me) next February, so I would think this could happen in the next two weeks. Keep everyone posted.

Interesting way to get into a hotel room. :teeth:

Congrats on the job offer.

I don't think I publicized it here, but the job I thought was going to be fantastic that I moved to in June has not been. It was more money, stock options and work from home, so it sounded too good to be true...it was! The position I interviewed for (and qualified to do) and what I'm being asked to do are so vastly different, I've been miserable. I enjoy learning new things, but when 95% (and that's conservative) is something I've never touched before and there's an expectation I'll just learn it all with no guidance or training, it makes for an untenable situation.

Had a phone interview with a position at Disney on Monday. I thought it went well, but I haven't heard anything back.
Had an actual interview on Wednesday with a different company and it went very well. Realized I hadn't asked about the salary, so I called back and found out they liked me enough they were putting together an offer. Said I'd hear something from HR yesterday or today. It wasn't yesterday, so hopefully today.
Have a phone (video) interview with another place on Tuesday.
Also have an application in with Kennedy Space Center and a former co-worker recommended me for a job where he works.

So, suffice it to say, I will be having a new job, it's just a question of where and how soon. Only bad part is this might interfere with my time available for DDCC8.

Sounds good to be wanted. Good luck.

TGIF dads!
only new development here is that I booked our flights for next years vacation. we will be going from august 2nd through the 10th.now to decide where to stay and such, wait for seasonal offers to drop etc...might explore renting dvc points.

Flights are great. We book with our points at 11 months and get flights later. If I had any points, I'd offer them to you.

Our next vacation trip is one that was not expected and certainly did not think we would be taking before DD got out of high school. This past summer we had good friends of ours move back to Hawaii. He is in the hotel business and landed a great job at Grand Wailea on Maui. They invited us out to visit them any time... and my DW took them up on the offer! We'll be there on Maui 12/30 - 1/8. First time in Hawaii for any of us, so should be fun. Wanted to stay a little longer, but my work schedule restricted the dates. DD is excited because she'll be celebrating her 17th birthday there. Fun times!

Have fun in Hawaii escaping the cold.

Morning all.

A little more snow overnight but it has warmed up and is suppose to be raining later today. Really feeling the absence of high school basketball today. DS's former team is hosting their big tournament this weekend and it's the first time in awhile we haven't been involved. Might have to take in a game later today.

Travelling to the north shore on Sunday for another volleyball tournament, it's been a lot of fun coaching club ball again.

Speaking of flights, we booked our for an upcoming cruise. The cruise is leaving from Port Everglades but we are flying in and out of MCO, pricing just worked out way better. The plan is to rent a car and drive back and forth. we even picked up another Dis Dad as a passenger on the way back. Mini Disdad meet in the cruise if anyone wants to join in.

Good luck Doc. Is the Space Center job an astronaut position?

Enjoy the cruise. Which cruise line you on?

Yep. You earned that. Long day.

Great news! Breathed a major sigh of relief?

Morning fellas from a decidely dreary London. The kids are doing Santa's lists today, I think we have one more year with the boy. The Curly haired ninja did me a favour though, she put a Domino's pizza as her no.2 choice. So I can get one of the presents delivered in 45 minutes for 4.99, halfway through a Bears game. Even better, the boy has put down 2 Lego box sets, so Santa might be in for a cheeky 50% discount.

What is now officially known as "The great coffee drought of 2019" lingers on, mainly due to UPS's ineptitude. Hopefully the new coffee machine will turn up today. I'll stand on the doorstep with my catchers mitt as the driver lobs it out of the window.

Great news. That's a nice way to toast with your Bourbon. So that's 3 times Thanos has been defeated. Once on the Garden, and twice in Kentucky.
other times I play with them.
Yep, my high point is still when I had an accident claims guy on the phone for about half an hour in the car and then I told him I had cut my own head off. His response was somewhat ungentlemanly (there you go Randall, gif time.....)
So, suffice it to say, I will be having a new job, it's just a question of where and how soon.
Well, congrats on that young man. Is the non-Disney one better than the Disney one, or would you take a little bit of a kicking to work for the mouse?
DW going out tonight with some friends so bach'n it tonight

Mike's hallway, earlier this evening.......... (well played my man)

Good deal! We will be there for a bit during that window
As will we, possibly. That could be fun.
Fall leaf duty
I hear that mate. I think it's gonna be the only blower going on round here this weekend, sadly.

Have a great day boys. London out.

For me, a lot of factors go into the decision for a new job.
Sure, salary is important, but so are benefits, commute time, type of work, etc.

The Disney gig would be contract. More money, but no benefits. The commute would be bad since the location (ironically) is near Universal.

The non-Disney one is with a government contractor. Not as much money, but benefits (medical, dental, vision) and 15 days PTO and 10 holidays. The commute would be better as well. And a big one...100% match of 401K contributions up to 4%, so that's more money towards retirement also.

So, all in all, the non-Disney one is looking way more attractive for everything except the salary part.

As I mentioned before, we're looking at potentially getting a different house. If we do that, we'll be about closer to Disney, closer to my family in Winter Haven and just slightly further than now for commute to work (non-Disney one). If Disney does happen, then it will be closer commute than current home.

Glad to hear this Norm!!! Fantastic news (for a change)! :yay:

Morning gents.
Too dang early, but at least it’s a weekend so work should be fairly slow.

I was once a senile old German immigrant who kept droning on about the war and why I emigrated.
Of course the only thing true about that is the senility. And the old part now.

My condolences

An early Saturday morning here. Tennis this morning, Captain's meeting, and maybe tennis with my daughter.

I did find one of my favorite shows on Hulu last night - The Shield. We watched a few episodes, and it is still really good. They also have all the Survivors on there, so we will be binge watching those at times.

We weren't happy with the Carnival cruise, but it may have been due to time of year (Spring Break) and our pick of cabin. Let us know how it compares to the others you've been on.

Great news! Breathed a major sigh of relief?

Absolutely. It's still a GOP controlled Congress, so funding won't be increased (no raise). But, it's unlikely they will try to dismantle the pension system again.

Great news. That's a nice way to toast with your Bourbon. So that's 3 times Thanos has been defeated. Once on the Garden, and twice in Kentucky.

Not sure how you are surviving without coffee. Hopefully, it will be over soon. Yes, Thanos defeat finally puts an end to this uncertainty.

I hear that mate. I think it's gonna be the only blower going on round here this weekend, sadly.

That's because you are married. :scared1: :lmao:

Glad to hear this Norm!!! Fantastic news (for a change)! :yay:

Absolutely. I'm glad it's done.

Morning All.

What happened to November and December? January weather here this morning.

This will be our 5th cruise with Carnival. So far we've done two in March and two at Christmas and have had no issues. With have one with Disney, one with NCL and one attempted with NCL. No plans on returning to NCL, their customer service and food is terrible. Disney was great but very expensive and to be honest not any better than Carnival.

You're the only one I've ever heard say that Disney and Carnival were the same. The cruisers I know all swear by Disney, and that the price is worth it. DW and I both plan to try an all inclusive resort the next time, but she also wants to cruise to Cuba and some other spots.
