DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Morning boys from a drizzly London. The official disdad London tally doubled this morning when James landed, so that's nice. 2 in 8 million is a good start. Except it will be back to one on Weds.
Had some awesome food on Saturday night. Smoked Lamb Neck, Pig Jowl, Salt Beef Croquettes, Smoked Prime Rib, Marrow Mash, Sweetbreads, Bacon, Sausage. Gooooood eatin'. And loads to drink.

They are total beer snobs, not a Bud, Coors or even Sam Adams to be found. They have about 20-30 beers either on tap or by the bottle. All craft breweries. She had the Floridian, a hefeweizen from the Funky Buddha brewery (real name).
I know a couple of places like that. I like my beer and I like craft beer, but beer snobbery is getting a bit silly a the minute. I'm not a fan of Bud, but we will serve Coors or Sam at a BBQ, just because its easy to drink, it doesn't get in the way of the food, and you don't get plastered by about 4PM.

I met a guy playing tennis who was originally from England. I asked if he was a West Ham fan, but he said he was from Darby
That's more like Paul Lawson's end of the country than mine mate. There's not many West Ham fans outside of the East End or Essex.
One of the weirdest things I ever saw was when I went to a bar in Santa Monica about 5 years ago to watch West Ham play in the play off finals to get back in the Premier League. I thought there would be about 2 guys and a dog there, as it was on at about 730 in the morning. I walked in and there must have been about 40 West Ham fans all in kit giving Bubbles at full go. That was a good day. Made a couple of mates I'm still in contact with.

I'll give him a run next week, but I know he is way more athletic than I am.
I know who to cheer for....

I get to play chauffeur again.
Does he get to drive with you as passenger yet?

Apparently, the 'creative' director for that part of the show has trouble with the idea of 'stage left or right'. Kept getting it wrong.
A small detail, but an important one I would have thought.....

Have a spiffing day chaps. Tally ho.

Does he get to drive with you as passenger yet?

Good morning from a drizzly Fredericton; although' I heard a rumour of sun and high temperatures headed this way for later this week.

He drove part of the way home yesterday, slowly easing him into the highway driving. He does have a bit of a speed control problem, as in travelling too slow but it is getting better.

DW found her new ride and we are off to pick it up tonight. She opted to go with a 2015 Hyundai Tuscon, looks like our Jeep days are over.

Have a good one everyone and stay safe out there.

Happy Monday. Well, not really. Still no lotto winnings, so it's back to work. :sad2:

I imagine you are happy about that.

He wasn't a bad kid, so no, it didn't bother me. His family seemed decent enough, perhaps a bit on the boring side, which again, was fine with me.

Yes, he filled me on the geography. I just figured since you were infamous, then he would know you. He wasn't a West Ham fan. :lmao:

Top O the Mornin Dads!
Not really mate, we lost 4-0.

(not really, I love taking him whatever the score, there may have been small onions in my pockets he stood on his chair and sang our theme song at full blast)
Sorry about the result, but hey a day with the young one at a match is great regardless of the pitch. Sorry about those onions ........... And thanks for the positive thoughts on the wedding, just can't fix stupid.
It's too bad that something that should be a happy time often seems to come with so much stress. I hope it gets better.
Thanks. Believe it or not, the one I feel the worst for is FSIL. It's his wedding / marriage and starting the next chapter in their life and he has a yahoo for a dad.
Evening folks. Put in 8 hours at the church today. Still enjoying the work, but missing all that time off. I have to drive to campus again next week, and hopefully it will be the last one for May. We spent Mother's Day together yesterday. Oldest dd's boyfriend is moving to South Carolina next week after school. Life just seems to be moving along.

Sorry to hear about the drama. What's the story? There is crazy in every family, and if you don't have it, then it's you! :lmao: You know the outlaw crap that I have to go through here.
Sorry for DD with the boyfriend moving but good to hear the church job is working out. Regarding the other, too much to get into other than the guy and his wife (4 marriage 2nd to current) started some crap with the kids about the wedding which led to DD not taking the crap and putting them in their place (mini-me). This created more crap for DD & SIL to deal with. The thing with the bridal shower was no RSVP from the woman or her grown daughters to our friend that was nice enough to through the shower and no attendance. Both myself and SIL step dad are having a hard time keeping quite.
Morning guys, hope all the wives had an enjoyable Mother's Day. Spent the afternoon at Marlins' Park watching them beat the Braves 3-1. A close friend (we've known each other in high school) was in town and he loves baseball. Spent an enjoyable three hours catching up. The kid was out on the water tagging sharks. They had a good day and tagged 10. She is out there again this morning.

At least you are headed to the final stretch. Shame some people on the periphery of the celebration think it is all about them. Try not to smack him during the reception.
Sounds like a great weekend for you and the PP. Regarding the reception, DD has been reminding me to keep my feedback to the yahoo to myself during the wedding day festivities which of course I will. Just not sure post reception as the stuff is so unbelievable and off the reservation.

That a heck of a food fest right there, wow! I agree, getting tired of the beer snobs and though I like a good beer ain't nothing wrong with a cold Miller Lite while doing yard work on a hot afternoon.

DS will get there, takes a little time. We found that DS was more timid learning than DD was and would think the boy would be the led foot? Congrats on the new vehicle

'Morning all...
It's Monday and with that, Summer is officially starting to settle in down this way.
Likely in the 90s by tomorrow and the humidity will be rising toward our normal levels of absolute unacceptability across the week.

yuck...

Good thing we start traveling Friday.
That'll make slogging through the rest of the week a mite easier.

Happy Belated Birthday Rob!

late-birthday-gift-card.jpg
I'd say that's an acceptable reason

Thanks

It's hard to really appreciate any of the shows on YouTube with small screens. I have a feeling that in the case of Happily Ever After, it would be more impressive in person.
I suspect this may be the case as well.
I'll let you know what we thought of it once we get back.

And you wound be in Disney too! :D
Yes I will be.

There is crazy in every family, and if you don't have it, then it's you! :lmao:
An indisputable truth.
But of course the simpler answer is that we're all nuts on one level of another.

Marrow Mash
That's a new one to me.
Marrow as in bone marrow, I'm guessing here?

That does stink for your dd and future SIL. It is sad when people think so highly of themselves that they cannot let one another person have their day - even when it is a wedding. You all will get through it. Just remind everyone of this when they want to plan future visits during the holidays.

That sounds terrific. I'm happy for no more cold weather, although I have been spoiled to indoor/ AC tennis.

He wasn't a West Ham fan. :lmao:
I bet he wasn't. I can send you over a WHU t-shirt to wear when you play against him?
Try not to smack him during the reception.
..but if you do, make sure it's a good one. Once you go, you might as well own it
It is sad when people think so highly of themselves that they cannot let one another person have their day
The height of selfishness, IMHO
That's a new one to me.
Marrow as in bone marrow, I'm guessing here?
Yep. Stirred into the mashed potatoes and then topped with some more and under the grill for a little bit. Happy birthday for last week mate, did you get up to anything?

My DW would agree with you, but I find the heat-index infused roasting we generally get to be more taxing. And the averages have been getting steadily worse by the year. We didn't really have much of a winter either, and that's been bad or the local crops and does not bode well for the level of bugs we'll likely be seeing this season.

Interesting...
Not a common offering down here where I be (to say the least).
But I'd certainly give it a try if it showed up on a menu.

Happy birthday for last week mate, did you get up to anything?
Thank you sir.
I'm rather hard to buy for, so I asked for cash from anyone foolish enough to actually offer me any presents.
Whatever I end up with I'll add a bit more to and then be giving that to a friend of mine in trade for a 12-String.
(cause you can't have too many guitars).

I bet he wasn't. I can send you over a WHU t-shirt to wear when you play against him?

?

I wear double extra fat, so I doubt they make them in that size. Heading to pizza buffet for HS tennis banquet. Make that a triple extra fat. :sad2:

).

I can handle the heat better than the cold. Yes, it can be taxing, but trying to warm yourself after the cold or shoveling snow......? No, I'll take the heat. I'm still trying to make my retirement plan work - move to Florida, buying a kegerator, and staying drunk all day. :drinking1:

Well, travelling too slow is better than too fast I guess. It's not easy putting them behind the wheel at first, but you get used to it. We let DD do her first long-ish drive over the highway this past weekend, about 1.5 hours out to see her father (I probably never mentioned before that she is actually my step-daughter, but I've known her since she was 3 and she's always lived with us, so I really don't bother making the distinction anymore).

Enjoy your trip and safe travels. I forget, is this just the two of you or is the young man joining?

I like the the warmer weather as I really enjoy sitting out back after a long day and on the weekends. Though I agree when it gets August hot around here a bit tough to take. We planted tress to block sun off the patio and we have a couple of umbrellas strategically located along with an outdoor fan to help.
Thank you sir.

Sorry about being late on the birthday - too much stuff going on I guess

Ya' know how it is that you go out of your way to make sure that all the work gets done early so that you don't have to worry about that nonsense just before heading out on vacation?

Ya' know how once you do that work your management invariably waits until three days after the normal deadline to add additional details that require you to go back and redo three quarters of that work?

don't ya' just love it when that happens?

I wonder just what time (if at all) I'll actually get to bed tonight and tomorrow?
:headache:

He's home right now so everyone one is joining in of this outing.

Sorry about being late on the birthday - too much stuff going on I guess
Thanks and not to worry...
You've far more important things to tend to.
Even I don't consider my B/D to be much of a big deal.
I'm surprised when anyone even notices .

Happy Tuesday. Another beautiful day on campus. Sadly, this is the week off before summer semester, so no scantily clad college girls around campus. They will be out in numbers in June. Just a few things to wrap up, and I should be done on Thursday and enjoy some relaxing time away. School ends for my girls on Thursday this week. We are trying to finalize summer plans of swimming and tennis.

The HS banquet is over. Youngest dd earned her varsity letter and the most applause from the boys coach and the boys on the squad. It seems as if her girl teammates were not overly enthusiastic that a 7th grader out performed them for a varsity spot. Pettiness starts in the home. Her doubles partner (junior) cheered for her, and that is good enough for me. The pizza and beer were good.

I'll have 3-5 tennis matches in three consecutive days in June and July for state championships, and more in August if we make it to regionals. Talk about hot. I'm too old for this ....

Which is just bad management. I've had plenty over the years, so yes, I get it. Hope you can get some rest and enjoy your vacation.

Get this type of nonsense often from those above me or from corporate overseas. Luckily what they ask for has already been provided in about 75% of the requests cause folks just don't read, pay attention to things or know where to go to get standard stuff :rolleyes1

A while ago I got a voucher from AA when I volunteered to get bumped from a flight. The remaining amount was about to expire so before it did, I booked a flight to NYC. The flight is finally coming up this weekend but I really didn't think I could go. Decided to reevaluate it and found I could book the rooms using Holiday Inn points. So I am leaving Thursday morning and coming back Sunday. Only expenses will be what I spend there. Looking forward to it since it is the first time I got away since Marathon Weekend in January.

Mine was a little bit of a lead foot and was more confident a driver than she actually was. She got better and so will the ones learning now. Congrats on the new car.

He wasn't a bad kid, so no, it didn't bother me. His family seemed decent enough, perhaps a bit on the boring side, which again, was fine with me.

Hope there is not too much drama after he moves.

Feel bad for your SIL. Good luck with the festivities and I hope it goes smoothly. In case it doesn't can you make sure someone captures it on video?

Good thing we start traveling Friday.

Safe travels. I forgot where you are going.

We let DD do her first long-ish drive over the highway this past weekend, about 1.5 hours out to see her father (I probably never mentioned before that she is actually my step-daughter, but I've known her since she was 3 and she's always lived with us, so I really don't bother making the distinction anymore).

I was a wreck when she first drove to school. Took a while before I let her do a long drive but she did fine.

My dad was my older brother and sister's step-dad but to all of us, we were one family. They were my brother and sister and he was their father. I learned a lot from my old man.

Big congrats to your DD, that is an accomplishment. As to the jealousy, that is their problem. The boys team and her doubles partner acted with class.

She opted to go with a 2015 Hyundai Tuscon, looks like our Jeep days are over.
Does the boy get to drive that one? Nice motor, congrats mate. I don't think I could part with the Jeep.
Ya' know how once you do that work your management invariably waits until three days after the normal deadline to add additional details that require you to go back and redo three quarters of that work?
Sorry mate, that sucks. Or blows. Whichever, it's not good. Hope you get through it and enjoy the time off.
Heading to pizza buffet
Well there's a phrase that should inspire us all.
The HS banquet is over. Youngest dd earned her varsity letter and the most applause from the boys coach and the boys on the squad. It seems as if her girl teammates were not overly enthusiastic that a 7th grader out performed them for a varsity spot
Go DD, and kudos to the boys.
Only expenses will be what I spend there. Looking forward to it since it is the first time I got away since Marathon Weekend in January.
Score! Enjoy that mate, especially as its a freebie.
I learned a lot from my old man.
I learnt jack all from mine. Apart from what not to do.

Have a good day chaps, the "disdad to others" ratio will be back to one in 8 million tomorrow.

Just got back from two and half days at WDW for a little 35th anniversary trip.
Congrats on the anniversary.
Even a short trip to the world is better than a day at work.

Smoked Lamb Neck, Pig Jowl, Salt Beef Croquettes, Smoked Prime Rib, Marrow Mash, Sweetbreads, Bacon, Sausage. Gooooood eatin'. And loads to drink.

Some feast. When you say Sweetbreads are you talking about actual pastries or real organ meet sweetbread?

Interesting...

We usually use it stews, never tried it in potatoes though.

It was very good. We all shared appetisers and then kept going. Sweetbreads as in pancreas mate, they were pretty good but the least favourite of all the servings.
