DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
FRIDAY! 3 day weekend and then only 2 more days in this lately hell hole and then WDW.
A Double Shot of BEVERLY Day to say the least. New director that I had hopes for is now questioning the sustainability of my program despite the fact that my boss doesn't. Apparently providing office space and utilities qualifies him to comment on the quantity and quality of my work.

On top of that, the state budget cuts have finally hit the ivory tower. While I think I should survive (despite the previous paragraph) many won't and one I am particularly concerned about has been my "unofficial assistant" for about 2 days a week. Do more with less until their is nothing useful that you have left to give.

If I knew 30 years ago what I know now I never would have gone to work in academia but as I am fond of saying, I am still on the green side of the sod so it could be worse.
Sorry to hear and hope that you come through this in a good place. "Do more with less until their is nothing useful that you have left to give." - I think we are all fed up with hearing this...........
Some final pics from the trip.
From then she shopped and did not buy anything including these ears

You didn't buy the graduation era hat? Realized I didn't share a pic with the ear grad hat.

Good Morning. Maybe one of the top mornings here weather wise of the year. Sunny, not too hot and the ocean breeze. Boy am I glad to be in the office.:headache:

Well, for those following, they added an extra baseball game for the JV team on Tuesday. DS won't be playing as he got the call up to varsity that we had been hoping for so will play the last game there and then stay on the roster for the state tournament. He was told to get his bull pen work in because he is expected to pitch when needed and maybe even be the closer for states.:thumbsup2 He has worked really hard this year and deserves it. He was also told that he will be one of the 3 top pitchers next season on varsity if he keeps up the efforts and continues to improve.
Great news on DS, all the best for him and the team.

Everyone have a great weekend and thank you to those that gave their lives so the we can enjoy little things like a Dad / Son WDW trip.

So what is everyone eating Memorial weekend? Q'ing some ribs but everything else is up in the air. Thinking pasta salad (Italian dressing based, not mayo), grilled vegetables for the veg head (not sure which ones) and maybe grilled asparagus. For desert, something with home made ice cream (vanilla, peach & strawberry). Trying to figure out some sort of festive adult beverage but no idea.

Open to suggestions for any and all of the above. What are you guys doing?

Nice pic. She didn't want it so I didn't get it. Saved me $18.

Arrived home. Less than 5 minutes of driving down US 1, I turned to the kid and "I hate Miami!" came out. I will post some final pics later tonight or tomorrow.
Golden Oaks here we come....
Norm and I can park a couple RV's out front there too.

What I can't ignore is the overtime money they pay me to come in.
What is the overtime "money" and "pay" you speak of??? I am not sure my boss understands this concept just the overtime hours.

Yeah, hard to give up that extra $$. Especially if it's going towards your trip in January to the DDCC. :thumbsup2 You are coming, right?:confused3

When? Where? Deets!

That seems to be the norm more and more.
Sometimes being in a union is a good thing.

Sometimes.

Thinking I may do a pork shoulder and fried squash. Just beer to drink for me this weekend.

Yeah, I had a union job back in high school and didn't realize how good I had it till I started working "normal" jobs in a right to work state.

I'm just putting a tent on the lawn. I can use your bathroom, right? If not, the lawn is going to be a mess.:scared::scared:

Not wanting to get into personal info, you may want to slip him the new OT laws going into place. Depending on you job responsibilities, salary and stuff they may not have a choice. From what I have been looking at it's a lot cheaper to comply and pay OT than the penalties if you don't. I guess the States and Fed need more payroll tax $$.:rolleyes1

Yeah, I had a union job back in high school and didn't realize how good I had it till I started working "normal" jobs in a right to work state.

Probably be making $100 an hour with pension and half the effort by now.

When? Where? Deets!

January, marathon weekend. Where else could the DDCC be other than Disney World. If you want to meet a bunch of great guys in one place, that's the where and when (or at least that's what they tell me, this is my first one). Oh, and CJ will be there too. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Not a whole lot of excitement on the food front this weekend other than the prior mention of a dozen or so crustaceans that turn red when you boil them. Heading to family. They'll most likely be serving your standard burgers and dogs. I am thinking of kicking it up a little and preparing some bacon wrapped filet with a blue cheese sauce. Beverages requested by the older crowd (you'd fit right in:lmao::lmao:) were Bahama Mama's by the pool with lunch and some White Russians with dinner. Not all that far off the standard drink menu. Most of the family don't do adult drinks. As usual I'll be serving something just to see the disappointment on their faces. :thumbsup2 I'll have to see what the old bar menu holds.

Take the rest of the day off, tell them we said it was OK. :thumbsup2 Some pics would be appreciated as some of us have never been. Have a great trip!
Thanks MM, will post some when I return, or bump over to the DisDads FB page, I'll sling some up there today or tomorrow.

Would love to see a pic or two when you come back. Have a blast.
Will do CJ.
Enjoy your trip. Flying there I assume or would you use the tunnel?

We use the tunnel. Door to Park in about 5 hrs. The plane ends up taking all day, and we can fit a TON of merchandise in the ol' Grand Cherokee....

Grass is cut. Let the weekend & vacation week begin.

I am always paying attention. I may be 3 days or a week behind, but I'll figure it out eventually. :goodvibes
.

Congrats to DS.

I didn't catch the "phounes" at first (thought it was a typo,) nicely doune.
!

Fun with the U. Again, my immature brain just won't let me stop for long.

DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY LOBSTERS GAVE UP THEIR LIVES FOR THAT WALL!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

:lmao::rotfl::lmao:

Those boxes contain live lobsters. The wall is kind of like a Trojan lobster, used to pave the way for the penguin army. :D

And the Canadian Penguin Army has returned. Code name: CPA :lmao:

We can use that kind of wall down here if you are paying. Our "lobsters" fail miserably compared to their northern cousins.

They aren't bad though. Another perk of living in the sunshine state.

I've been wanting to try Four Roses. VA ABC is weird in that not all stores carry the same products. You have to visit them all to find what you want. That gets expensive as I never want to leave empty handed.
!

True. Different stores carry different brands here, but we still have a good variety. My local bourbon bar claims to have over 100 different bourbons, albeit Four Roses single barrel, double barrel, and small batch would count for 3. Still, I would like to try them all given enough time and money.

I'm just putting a tent on the lawn. I can use your bathroom, right? If not, the lawn is going to be a mess.:scared::scared:
Sure you can use mine at least until I have to pull a Griswold.
I'm sure someone has the .gif they can post here.

Good thing you saved $18 next to that Seton Hall tuition. :lmao:

As for the menu, haven't thought that far ahead. I'm hoping to talk DW into X-Men: Apocalypse movie.

Having Italian catered in for Sunday as it is MIL's 80th and DW and I are tired of always cooking for everyone as we would like to just enjoy the weekend as well. Likely gonna grill on Monday and waiting to see what plans are with BIL & SIL in town still.

Drinks - gonna need plenty! I will likely partake of Makers one day, dirty martini one day and a port wine one day mixed in with some suds. I like the port with a cigar.

Good construction. Your work or his?
Only credit I can take is the Shop Disney Parks APP. We got one for DD when she graduated thus DS had to have one too.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Have a great start to the holiday weekend here in the states and great regular weekend to the rest of you.

Happy Saturday everyone. A bit overcast and rainy this morning but I will cope. To my northern brethren, please keep me apprised of the penguin advance. Stocking up on sardines now. And bread and milk.
