DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Had some friends over last night for turkey. I told them going in that I was trying a new recipe. Take turkey, stuff with whatever (I did bread, celery, onion, carrot, poultry seasoning) drape bacon over the whole bird. Roast for 3 hours. Last half hour, paint bacon/bird with maple syrup a few times (I used about a cup or so).
Holy crap was that good. And the gravy was outstanding.

Day got even better with the Jays sweeping Texas. Loved one guy's sign in the crowd.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and all the other Canadian dads. I'm heading to my mom's for turkey later, so no cooking for me. But I like that recipe. Bacon and maple syrup...mmmmm.

Great game last night. I noticed that sign too :rotfl2:

'Morning all...
A joyful thanksgiving to the folks up Nourth.

Continued prayers for all that were in the path of the storm.
We were lucky that the monster stayed off shore.
At 180 miles inland it was just a gusty rain strome to us, but I may need to go down and check on my dad's propery in Garden City.
Good to hear you were all clear and hope your Dad's place stayed free of damage.
Happy Thanksgiving!

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: I remember seeing this episode for the first time - LMAO!

Happy Thanksgiving to our brothers to the north. Hope you are all fat and happy.

Sounds delicious. My favorite meal of the year and always keep it traditional but when I make a turkey another day of the year, I might try it.

Best part of Thanksgiving is someone else doing all the cooking!

Would not trust anyone but myself making T-day dinner.

Happy Monday. Fall Break Staycation is a bit different, but I made it to the gym and to visit my cousin. He gets to get out of the hospital tomorrow. Also, the DVC points are back in the account and DW and I are planning on a two week vacation in the summer. We are looking at a some nights at Poly or GF, followed by a week at a friend's condo in Miramar Beach. That should be fun.

Happy October Thanksgiving.

There are no topless beaches in Kentucky?

I haven't found them. We have People of Walmart. :sad2:

That does sound good. I wasn't surprised about the Rangers. That was too low a run differential, but it was a great regular season run.

Glad to hear you all made it safely thru the storm.

Happy thanksgiving to my commonwealth brethren, from the mother country.

May your turkey be basted and your guests be wasted.

Hauppy Thaunksgiuving, guys!

The land of the uuuuuuuuu?

Would not trust anyone but myself making T-day dinner.

Not even me. I know how to cook and am fat. Isn't that enough qualification? I like to cook the meal, just not to clean it up. We usually do potluck over here, and my sweet potato casserole and green bean bacon wrapped bundles are always requested and consumed quickly.

That's why I did it. We've never really celebrated Thanksgiving much. We only started doing Turkeys 3 years ago. Before that, we didn't do much. Thanksgiving in Canada doesn't have the same level of celebration that it does in the States.
That given, I won't mess with the Xmas bird, but I did tell our guests that I was trying something new. I just might make it for Xmas now. It was that good.

we got frozen everything. Never again.

Ew. That's just wrong on so many levels.

I haven't found them. We have People of Walmart. :sad2:

Car is in the shop, my British dive buddy just landed at MIA and now has to take a cab, and we were supposed to head to the Keys tomorrow morning for the day. Picking up a rental tomorrow, a quick stop at the dentist to get stitches out and hopefully we can make it down there around 1:00. Still looking forward to a fun week ahead.

I'm exactly the same CJ. Made Xmas day dinner for the last 15 years, since I was about 25. I relinquished one year, when my stepdad died, and we got frozen everything. Never again.

The above mentioned friend's wife is an excellent cook and they have goose every Christmas. Never had goose and don't think I would want to try it.

You can do the bean bacon wrapped bundles (still have not tried it) and I'll let you play with the grill. Other than that, no.

What are you NUTS? Love Thanksgiving Turkey dinner. My entree rotation for the holidays; Turkey - Thanksgiving, Beef - Christmas and Ham for New Years.

Thanksgiving... whatever. Maybe pizza. Halloween! Yes. Remembrance day in November, then Christmas.

Nice one. Crispy roast potatoes? Or mashed? Not sure what the protocol is over that side of the pond.....

Sweet potato casserole. Mine features a cup of sugar and a cup of brown sugar, oh yeah, and sweet potato. :lmao:

I'm not bad on a grill either. I'm happy for you to feed my anytime you're willing to have me. :lmao:

Morning Guys,

beautiful fall morning here in NB. We avoided any of the fallout from Mathew here but our neighbours to the east, Nova Scotia, seems to have had some issues. I heard a report of about 60,000 without power and some pretty bad flooding in parts of the province. Hopefully everyone is ok.

Had some friends invite us to dinner tonight, Thanksgiving part 2 - the quest for more turkey! Looking forward to it.

Morning guys!

Spent last week in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg , TN with DW's family. Thankfully the house was big so I could escape every so often. While I was a way, it appears I missed some good conversation and Thanksgiving. That'll teach me to sign-off for a week!

Also while I was away, I booked another trip. This is the first time I've actually got two trips on the books. One this November with just the DW to celebrate our 10th and one in March that will be with my parents, DW and DS. It feels good, but expensive.

Happy Tuesday and Day 2 of Staycation. Started the day at the gym and have tennis planned for later. It is a beautiful fall day.

Glad to hear you were safe. I never really thought about hurricanes impacting anywhere other than the area until hurricane Ike ripped the roof off my house several years ago. Nothing like watching your shingles do the wave and smack off the roof of your house.

I didn't care much for Gatlinburg. We had a good trip, but the price was comparable with WDW. I'd rather go to WDW given the choice. Two trips can be expensive, but there are ways to save some $. If you have two trips and are eligible for the TiW card, that is one way to save on meals. Another is to consider the AP for at least the two of you.
