Good Morning Fellow dads, hope all is well. Today's DD (Hailee) 5th birthday!! I woke her up with her fave morning time snack (strawberry nutrigrain bar) with a candle in it. She loved it, taking cupcakes to her daycare so she can have some birthday fun while I'm at work.

Happy Birthday to Hailee. Sounds like a great way to start the day.

Thanks guys for the DD birthday wishes, I showed them to her before dropping her off at daycare, she loved it

And trying to remember from Dante's Inferno...isn't there a specific level in Hell for parents that go to WDW without their kids?:lmao:

I hope not! We did it a few years ago and DS still doesn't know. We plan on telling him when he turns 30.

In the next few weeks I have to put in for my 4 weeks vacation, Now this is a give and take situation, I give them my weeks in Jan, and by the time I take my 1st vacation I take crap before and after, it seems no matter what week I pick by the time it arrives it's not a good week, this year I'm putting in for 2 weeks back to back, since I started in 86 I only did this once when I got married, of course it was a problem, other's do it all the time, but of course it is also alright for some to have off during Christmas/New Years week:confused3 And that is one week I'd love to get I'd be at WDW so fast it wouldn't be funny:confused3

Good luck and take what they owe you.

‘Morning all…

Fellas-
My grand plan to set up a thread to keep people updated on our adoption story just isn't going to happen. It's more work than I care to do and I can sum up the whole thing with this:

It ain't gonna happen.

Sorry to hear this.
That has a bit of a broken record quality to it, but I am truly sad to hear that the differences could not be over come at this point. Blended families are a challenge under any circumstances and teens have the roughest time with such situations. Add culture and then language to the list for potential misunderstanding or isolation and y’all were dealing with a very tall order indeed. Prayers are continuing for all.

On the bright side, there's still time to get my money back on Rosetta Stone! Considering I just dropped a sizable sum of $$ on a 10-day non-expiring parkhopper, I think I'll return it.

Well there’s a small silver lining anyway.
I know that new opportunities will present themselves (probably sooner then later)
Sometimes it’s just hard to recognize them right off.

Pain and most swelling is gone. Just still have the firmness of the gland now. I will call them next week if it is still there or swells more. Wish it would go away.

You’ve been having a rough time of it lately.
That nonsense need to stop.

In the mail today was a special offer from the Florida Marlins. They gave me the option of buying season tickets THREE WEEKS BEFORE THEY GO ON SALE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. Think I should take them up on it? Wonder how many people will?

Given your love-hate relationship with the Marlins, I could see you skipping it this year.
Given your love-love relationship with baseball…

I can’t actually imagine it.

Evening....

Had my specialist appointment, it's going to lead to more. :sad2: Basicly a "fungus" was found, that can lead to more serious complications...eventually...maybe. It's rare to find in a healthy body, usually those with weak immune systems, transplant patients etc, not in (relatively) healthy folks. So now a whole bunch more tests etc are ordered, they took what fely like 1/2 my blood out, and a CAT scan comming, to make sure there are no hidden issues. Getting a wee bit tired of itall, I admit. C'est la vie.:rotfl2:

My word… you’re also about due for some better times. I hope they figure this out completely and quickly. And get it stopped once and for all.

But think of all the new jokes available to you!
"What do you think of Brent? Is he a decent fella to hang out with?"
"He sure is a fungi!"

:sad2:

Morning guys!!

Officially swapped my resv in June over from AoA to POR, and saved $100!!:cool1: Got to love it when you can upgrade and still come out ahead!

Dates are as follows: June 8-16th in POR. I know Scott will be there at the tail end of those days, hoping for a meetup with him and his family. Anyone else down there during that time?

Matt

Hard to beat an upgrade for reduced money.
Nice work!

Sweet! Maybe you wouldn't mind taking your nemesis to a game. We will only be about 105 years old. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Did you ever see the movie Life with Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence? They get thrown in a southern prison in the 30s then finally escape when they're in their 80s. The last scene shows them sitting at a Yankees game arguing. :lmao:

I think you are either too late or super early!:rotfl:

Hey Steve.:wave2: Feeling any better? My jaw pain is starting to come back so am calling the doc again once the office is open to see if I can get in before the weekend.

We are seeing monsters inc 3d after work and then getting ice cream, this is her first big party so not sure how the present thing should go

I say you let her open all of her present from you today!:thumbsup2

She will have presents from the party guests tomorrow. Happy Birthday to Hailee!

Prayers that you feel better soon. At least they found it and now you can be treated and move forward. Hopefully this will be the last of it.

+1 for you my friend! :cool1:

We'll be at EPCOT on the 16th!

Surely they dropped the ticket prices in equal proportion to the payroll they dumped. :rolleyes1

Glad they found something! Which was it (if you don't mind me asking)? Aspergillus? Histoplasmosis? Coccidioidomycosis? These are more common than you would think and can be hard to diagnosis. Nice work that they did!

Actually, first off, could someone elaborate on the DIS Dads convention?
Secondly, how did all of you that are attending, convince your wives and children that it was okay for you to go to WDW without them?:confused3
I'm trying to scam my wife into thinking I have to got to WDW for an IT seminar and then hang out with all of the DIS Dads. Just not sure how to explain the expenses...although my AP is still good until March! Hmmm....

After many, many smaller meets, this was hatched as a way to get more of us together in person. Takes our group to the next level. I had no problem convincing my wife. "There's worse things you could be into" was her response. Plus, I've been pretty generous about letting her go away for girls weekends at least once a year.

Is there a formal itnerary? How does one identify a DIS Dad...and aren't you concerned about DIS Dad imposters?:scared1:

And trying to remember from Dante's Inferno...isn't there a specific level in Hell for parents that go to WDW without their kids?:lmao:

My wife and I have done 2 trips to WDW without kids. It's a great experience. The kids were annoyed the first time we did it, but they know we go about once a year as a family, so the second time they didn't begrudge us going alone. Really different and very fun to go as adults!

Good luck! I'd love to do 2 weeks back to back some day!

Almost forgot, Happy Birthday, Hailee!

Unexpected office time today. SWMBO and the kids were supposed to come back to the holler today, but she was up all night with a migraine so won't be travelling down. DS was not happy. He is definitely starting to prefer time with dad or alone vs time with mom and sis. Rather than spend the day getting the house ready I'll get work done in the office like this. :rotfl2: :coffee:

Work with no assistants isn't as bad as it could be. Now I no longer even attempt to get caught up and just do what I can get done in a day. There is a certain peace in knowing that any effort in trying to get caught up is futile so why bother.

Scanned the last couple of days. See several Dads and their families in need of prayer. Hang in there guys.

Hope 2013 is a great year for you all.

Nem, saw your meetup on facebook for the half; Not sure how many of us are doing the full, but let me know when you're in the bag drop area for the full if you want to meet up quick. What corral are you in?

I think they're could be about 4 or 5 of us to meet up before the full. I'd definitely like to get together. I'm in B now, but I have a 1:46 half time to submit which should get me into A. I'm just shooting for a sub 4 hour full so it would be nice to start at the tail end of A and have a fairly open (for Disney) course most of the race.

There is a semi-formal itinerary on the other site. Events are also being posted to the Facebook group page. We scheduled this year around Marathon weekend as there were already a fair number of dads that were going to be there for that.

Morning guys... Planning to do my packing for the DDC this weekend... Excited!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1:
Packing for WDW and Taking down the Christmas stuff is my to do list for this weekend.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. A few responses:

Chris...I am so sorry to hear this!!! Those of us who have adopted know how the process is a roller coaster of emotions and we all fear the outcome that has come to be for you guys. Sure will be pryaing for you. God has a mighty plan in store for you...this heartbreak is going to prepare you in some way for what God has ahead!! Is adoption something you think you will attempt again?
We have no intention to attempt again. This didn't start out of a desire to expand our family- we just felt called to make an offer to one kid in particular. We'll finish the home study though. Might as well- it's already paid for. If we feel called to this again, we'll do it again. But right now I don't think that will happen.
Bummer Chris. Prayers to your family to help get though this. What plans do you have now?
My immediate plans are to run a good race next weekend and have fun! Beyond that, we're bracing for the phone call saying that she changed her mind. When that happens it may be us that decline, but I'll save those worries for another day.

Our daughters share the same birthday! Mine turned 8. Most presents were at her party on Jan 1, the biggie came today. We're going to see Mary Poppins when it comes to Richmond in February!.
And trying to remember from Dante's Inferno...isn't there a specific level in Hell for parents that go to WDW without their kids?:lmao:

I hope not. I'm doing this one solo! But my kids are really starting to get the itch. A trip will hopefully get on our calendar soon.
