I have to post this... just because. Found out a few minutes ago that Obama is going to be at a local school at 1pm today. It's Green Run HS. Of ALL the schools in VB, this is one of the worst HS in the area... and is right up the street from my house. I'm soooo glad I'm in Chesapeake now.

DW and I went furniture shopping in Roanoke yesterday. Forgot the he was going to be there yesterday evening. Was strange to see the guys walking around on the rooftops of downtown with Rifles.

I decided that passing downtown on the highway was close enough.

Which I see you took one of today... :thumbsup2

So funny story DW asked me if I wanted to go out for dinner tonight, so we did.

And guess you we randomly ran into.

That's right a DISDad meet happened at Moxie's Grill.

Morning folks...

Time to pack up the car and head out on the road. Up to a cabin for a week, wondering how long Dis-withdrawls will happen. :rotfl2:

good work. hope you got some sleep.

Nope, not really yet...tonight for sure, clean fresh air will knock me out.

It was a great dinner!

And great to finally meet you and your family in person!

Looking forward to wonderland today.

Look towards Highway 400 later this morning, I'll wave to you on the drive past. :lmao:

okay, all caught up.

That's the good thing about working the overnight shift. Plenty of time to catch up on the boards. Next up, I will continue to fix all the broken picture links in my TR, which I am trying to finish up. Somehow the album with half the pictures I uploaded had disappeared, and I uploaded them again, but the links have all changed.

I'm only half awake though. Been a long day.

I used to work the part time night shift at UPS when I went to UL. Before cell phones, it took me awhile to figure out 7 AM or 7 PM at times.

Great pic. I thought I felt a disturbance in the force :lmao:

:rotfl:

I hate stopping three hours short of WDW. We usually stay in Valdosta. DW wants to stop in Atlanta, but I think that leaves too long a drive for a certain duck the next day.

If you can drive at night, then it is worth it. We left around 3:00 PM our time and arrived at WDW around 6:00 AM. Nothing is open that early. This trip, if I can stand it, we might leave at 4. It is all about timing. We hit Atlanta around Midnight, so there is n traffic. We did hit Nashville traffic last year and hoping the hour later time will help us miss that. It can handle the drive myself as long as DW gives me an hour or two nap. She will drive the late GEorgia or Early FL stint while a sleep a couple hours and then we switch back.

I would prefer t fly, but it is way cheaper to make the drive.

I

I'm starting to think even Brian can't make it rain :confused3

he can't even get the mailed items to arrive at my house.

I've been trying to water mine every other day... doesn't seem to be helping.

Gonna shoot for the Mom's Panel again this year?? Still going to try for the RunDisney spot if they do it like last year?

I've been watering every day, but mainly to just catch up a bit. Once it starts greening up, I'll be backing off on the watering, because once it is green, it will grow. And once it starts growing, I have to mow it. :rotfl: (The alternative, however, is ignoring it - picking splinters of grass out of your kids feet is no fun. )

I'll try for the Moms panel again, but I've never gotten beyond round 1. Not sure if it is my replies, or that pesky Y chromosome. ;) (They may not have set quotas, but I doubt that, as long as it is the Moms Panel that it will have more than 10-15% dads on board.)

I too would prefer to fly, but it's not in the budget. I don't mind staying somewhere on the drive back. I am just in a hurry to get there :thumbsup2

I'm now an SSR owner. My name's Sean. I am a single dad (never been married, not gonna either). DD is four and I've had her since birth. We're northern Illinoisans.

My first Disney vacation was in 1994 with my family. I was 21. After that, I finished putting myself through law school. Though Disney vacations (let alone other ones) didn't occur for a while, Disney was always a big part of life. So since then:

March 2011- DD, me, and family babysitter went to WDW. Before I owned SSR, we were Pop Century lodgers. Great time. DD's first trip. trip included Seaworld and Universal.

August 2011- D23 Expo and everyone's first trip to Disneyland. Though I prefer WDW, Disneyland has a special place in my heart now.

Thanksgiving 2011- got an unexpected bonus. Never saw WDW at holidays so DD and I went for an amazing adventure. Christmas at Seaworld rocked as well.

May 2011- DD, me, and grammy went to WDW over mother's day. 4day adventure. Then we went for our first cruise ever, and on DCL, 3 nights on the Dream. Awesome!!!!

We are on the Wonder for the 7night eastern caribbean cruise leaving December 23rd.

I might be infecting my daughter with a Disney obsession.

Welcome. I forgot t mention that dues payments are dole whips, bacon, beer, or cake. DW and I Disneymooned in 2000, trips to All Stars & Pop, stayed at CBR in 2008. We liked the upgrade so much we bought SSR. Since then, we added on at BLT & BWV. I'll see you over on the SSR thread as well.

Didn't post earlier this evening, but we lost power for a few hours. Either a tree fell on a transformer, or one imploded. Couldn't get past the fire truck hosing down the bonfire of dead grass (didn't really try, either - not that foolish, especially with the kids in the car), but we were without power for a few hours. Had no water either, more or less - in retrospect, it's obvious why - water pressure has been low due to higher use, and when they hooked up the hoses, it dropped to almost zero.

I hope they get it back and up and running soon. During the ice storm we had here a few years ago, the transformers were just blowing up (from the water to snow?). There is one three houses down and I could see the flashes of light outside (it was evening) and could here it explode. We were without power for two days.

+1 ::yes::

Beverly of a day. 15 hours 5 of which were in the car so I could give an 8 minute presentation.

Throw in some office politics and it has been interesting. :duck:

Good news is DS is coming back with me on my next trip north. Bad news is I still haven't finished the summer cleaning and disposing of uneeded stuff yet and once he arrives I won't be able to. Part of the disposal is also a jug of wine. I was on track to finish the last liter in a month but only have two weeks to do it now. Given my day I will probably try to get back on pace.

Love those long car trips for that. Glad DS is with you though.

wow... that is alot. I have a tendency to just hold down the shutter and let it go, and I still only take around 300 per day. I also shoot video, so maybe that holds me back. I'll try to take more this trip. Don't usually take pics of food, but I plan on doing it this time around... have to document EVERYTHING!!! :rotfl2:
?

I'll take the occasional food snapshot, but I forget from time to time. I'm not even at 100 per day, but we only do parks every other day, so that may explain in.

I too would prefer to fly, but it's not in the budget. I don't mind staying somewhere on the drive back. I am just in a hurry to get there :thumbsup2

Definitely. We have drove straight thru on the way home as well, but have varying times of departure because we can't figure it out. We tried leaving around 6:00 PM after a day at AK but was too tired for that. We tried getting a room somewhere in early GA or late FL, but it was still a long drive back th next day. We've tried leaving after lunch on thr last day. We've been stuck in Atlanta traffic before. Just can't figure it out. I think we are going to try to swim after lunch this year, shower off at the pool showers, and leave sometime then.

I've been watering every day, but mainly to just catch up a bit. Once it starts greening up, I'll be backing off on the watering, because once it is green, it will grow. Haven't watered or cut mine this month yet, although, the rain has made the weeds grow. I'll need to cut it soon or get a nasty homeowner's association letter.

Have a great trip.

DW and I went furniture shopping in Roanoke yesterday. Forgot the he was going to be there yesterday evening. Was strange to see the guys walking around on the rooftops of downtown with Rifles.

When DW and her friends went on a cruise a few years back, where the docked in Mexico had the army standing on the pier and several other places. She said it was Uneasy having soldiers with Ak-47s standing right there, but I guess that was necessary to ensure safety.

They had it back last night, before it was dark, and in time for my beers to be cold for later. Our power situation is a little on the wonky side - since Jan of 11 (or, roughly 80 weeks ago), we have been without power for a total of about 3 weeks. Ice storm last Feb knocked it out for a week, Memorial Day storm last summer knocked it out for about a week, and then other, shorter outages throughout the year. We've actually looking into a generator for the house - at least something strong enough to power the fridge and the freezer, if not more.

"There's no place like home. There's no place like home. There's no place like home." I keep saying it but it is not working. Ends up as, "There's no place like Hawaii."

Made it back to the Sunshine State a little while ago after another long flight. I can't sleep on a plane so it is now nap time.

Okay, car is loaded except for my beer supply which is on the final carry down. Keep cool and keep safe dads!

Do you ever have DDC Dad meets on DCL?
I think I qualify as a DIS dad

We have not had a cruise meet...yet. I'm sure someone will eventually schedule one of these!

Welcome to the club, Sean! You are member # 711! :thumbsup2 Would have been cool if you joined on Wednesday :lmao: (Member 711 on 7/11)

:welcome: WELCOME TO THE DIS DAD'S CLUB! :welcome:

You have been added to the DIS Dad's Club list :thumbsup2

Guess you'll need to schedule a trip to the keys to get over that Hawaii funk :lmao: Glad you made it back safely!

We've thought about a generator, but just never sprung for it. I would like to have one of those natural gas backup generators. Last time here, there were lots of thefts with the gasoline ones. Someone even stole won and started the person's lawnmower and left it running in place of it.

:thumbsup2 Scott... you are gaining on Dave for most DISDads meets! :lmao: Oh... and it's ok to show your beer in HIS picture, eh? :rotfl2: I see how it is....

Scott and his lovely family, came up to Canada for the weekend. We will all be going to Canada's Wonderland tomorrow.

I guess his girls knew why they were coming up, but didn't realize we'd be joing them.

So we are sitting at dinner, and Scott's oldest DD asked my DS "Are you coming to wonderland with us?"

To which he answered "Yes".

Then without missing a beat she said.... "Oh good, then I am going to catch you and tickle you" :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Was nice having dinner with you nemesis... but only because your family balances you out.

:lmao::lmao::lmao: Yep... that sounds like something she would say. I'm sure a nice game of tag will ensue afterwards! ::yes::

Have fun today, guys!
