next thing you know they'll be making it illegal for kids to be "forced" to clean their rooms.
Well, like it was mentioned earlier... I think by Don.

If the Department of Labor can enforce a "regulation" like this, it is hard to tell where it might go beyond that. This is just a bureaucratic regulation that they want to put in place, with no legislative action taken to make it a "law."

It could be a slippery slope.

And it continues to roll right along.

:wave2:

Hello all. Hope you're doing well.

Just stopped by checking on a couple of other threads and thought I'd say hi.
Haven't been on the boards much the past week or so.

Which is why I am still in the top 10 on this thread.

All this talk of tractors and life on the farm reminds me of my childhood. When I was very young we would often visit my maternal grandparents. I would tag along with my grandpa. I rode with him on his tractor, the high boy, the hay bailer, and his old pick up truck. I liked to ride in the back of that old truck. Had to be careful where I stepped since the cows and pigs he occasionally carried in the back always left their calling cards. I picked cotton with a field crew in 1961 as a 6 year old boy.

I learned some great lessons from my grandpa.

1.) Don't stand in the bed of the old pickup behind the driver's side since grandpa "chawed tabakker".

2.) Don't sit on the silver tube. Grandpa once loaded that silver tube with about 8 D-cell batteries. One little touch of that silver tube to a cantankerous old sow's butt and she complained loudly ... but she went where grandpa wanted her to go!

3.) When grandpa wants to "blast a stump" it's best to stand a long way away!

4.) There's something special about stopping by an old country store for an RC Cola and a moon pie!

I was with my grandpa one time when he had to plow a small garden. Rather than use a tractor he hitched up and old mule to a plow. But that old mule didn't seem to understand what grandpa wanted him to do. So, grandpa sent me to the house. He told me he needed to talk to that old mule. It took me years to understand why that old mule wasn't listening to what grandpa was saying.

Those were good years!

Great stories!

The only one they let me drive. We have green ones and blue ones and even an imported red one around here that we got from federal surplus.

I would make some snide remark about the fact that it is an International, but... Gotta appreciate the old steel like that. Good, simple, reliable machines. Looks like it is in good shape and being well cared for.:thumbsup2

Baaaaaa baaaaaa... Why isnt anyone talking to me???

Baaaaaa baaaaaaa

I would be but have to head out and pick up the kids from school. Or did I just talk to you?:confused3

6 weeks and the kids are done with a week off for Easter, state testing, fun days, field days and probably a field trip thrown in the mix..

Back / Neck update.

So it's good news and bad news.

Good News: It's not what I thought. I had a thyroid problem a few years back, and one of the symptoms is back and neck pain. I thought maybe it came back. Dr. doesn't feel that's it.

Bad News: It still hurts. He says it's likely muscle pain and joint pain. Should go away soon. Recommends hot showers and possible massage therapy.

I will give it a few more days, and see how it goes.

Happened to me not too long ago. I asked for drugs and they gave them to me. Worked like a charm. The only problem is I don't remember what happened for three days. Hope it feels better soon.

Thanks guys... Maui countdown is at 32 hours.

:scared1::lmao::rotfl2:

Countdown clocks stink.

Got two things via Fed Ex today. One was a $200 Disney gift card for referring someone that bought DVC. Will use it on the May trip.

The second was this:

Opening Day is just around the corner. Got that and my 20 game season tickets. Looking forward to baseball. First time in a long time.

So all in all a good day I think.

Hey, guys. I have been slacking off on checking in on the thread. I am hoping I can devote a little more time to it now. :thumbsup2

I posted this on the disdads.com boards, but thought I would try for some opinions here, also.

Well, I am at a bit of a dilemma and wanted to get some opinions:

First of all I have to say that I love my job. I work with great people and the hours are great (Mon - Fri, 8-5.) I am an IT server/systems administrator. I like to think I am a very important part of the company - I am the resident virtualization guru (VMWare), head up the network monitoring, and am the 'go to' guy for major IT issues that need to be solved. Really, the only bad points are that it is not a huge company, so my pay is not quite up to industry standard levels and not much room for advancement.

At my nephew's birthday party, I was told that an acquaintance (my sisters' mother-in-law's stepson - how's that for obscure?) works for a large company looking to hire some IT people - Strategic Client Architects. It is going into a little different type of job, but uses my experience well. It is almost a sales-like position - or at least a lot of customer interaction. It is a huge pay increase (over 50% more than what I make now) and with the bonuses - almost twice as much. (More Disney trips!)

I don't know if I should inquire and see about interviewing for the new job (if my skills fit), or just be satisfied with a pretty great job with the lower pay. I know that the current company I am with will have a tough time replacing me (not meant to sound egotistical - just that I have so much knowledge of the current setup/situation, it would be a long transition for someone to learn it all.) I guess I could try to get an offer, then go to the current boss and state the facts (that I love working where I am, but the pay differential is huge) and see if they might increase my pay - but I doubt they would get close to a match in pay. But those situations aren't ideal. I feel a loyalty to my current employer (we are a tight-knit 'family'), but how do you turn down a potential salary of twice what you make?

I have some other thoughts/opinions, but wanted to start with that and see what y'all think.

Congrats on the double bonus from FedEx today! :thumbsup2

BTW, checked out the sight lines on the Miami Marlins site, nice location for the tix, I hope I get down to buy you a beer or 2 from those seats!

John, that indeed is a tough situation. I would be worried that if you approached your current boss with the potential pay increase with the other job, that they may look bad on you for even looking elsewhere.

In my case, if I were to go with to my boss saying I have the opportunity to make more money elsewhere, he wouldn't think twice about saying goodbye to me instantly.

But, the opportunity to make a 50% increase in salary would certainly be worth a look. Especially if the hours and travel time are similar.

Good Luck!

Sounds like you're in a place where you love what you do and love the people you work with. So I'd be cautious about moving on. The money at the other place sounds fantastic, but it won't mean much if you're miserable. I'd probably look into the other position a bit, and there's nothing wrong with mentioning it to your boss to see if they'll do anything for you. But I wouldn't leave something I love unless I was sure the new job was really a great fit. I'm sure you'll get all sorts of opinions!

Tough call. I understand your point of being happy where you are and wanting to be loyal, but you really have to look at what is best for you and your family. I think you owe it to yourself to at least look into the possiblity more. It never hurts to talk to them and interview. You should always remember that the interview is a place for you to ask them questions as well. You might find out that it is something you're just not that interested in, or it might feel like a perfect fit. There's only one way to find out.

Good luck, whatever you decide to do.
