DIS Dads DDC XVII - Leap year edition

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

After looking at the post count I realize about 15% of my total posts came in the special Leap Day thread. They were as lacking in substance as most of the other 85% of my posts.:lmao:

Today is a good day I think. My meeting at the edge of the state was cancelled so I may save myself 4 hours on the road once that is confirmed. :cool1: Now the big question is what to do with the extra 4 hours. :confused3 I am so far behind it doesn't even really matter where I start.

Morning guys.

Sorry I missed out on the Leap Day thread, seems like some of you were hard at work.

Twomore days until March Break for me, heading South on Sunday.:banana:

Well,

I missed the closing of the "Special Edition" thread thanks to a SWAT Call out last night:cool2:

Finishing up the paperwork before heading to my Friend's funeral.

You guys have a good day.:3dglasses

Thanks for all the fun. Congrats to James on last post. Congrats to Stopher on the high post count.

Stopher...Randall...Everybody...

WFA

Well done yesterday guys. Well done. :thumbsup2

Leaving Leap Year behind, here is the post count for our current thread. Not advocating for a closure on this one. Just status update.

Congrats to James.

…and I was only 4 posts away from 300 on the day.
I should be shot.
:sad2:

But it was a lot of fun.
I’ll work the numbers up tomorrow if any is interested.

Morning Folks...

Congrats on the Leap Day thread.

SOrry I couldn't have been more of a help. :thumbsup2

Thanks!! I thought we'd go down to the wire, but it was closed prematurely...

My hat goes off to Stopher... nearly 700 posts in that thread!! (plus i think he was posting in the main thread as well!!)

:worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

Good Morning!!

slept like a log, but still feel very tired. :rotfl2:

I had the craziest dream that we started a thread and closed it all in one day, and that I was the last post, too!!

I joined the DIS 4 years ago. I lurked for the first 3, with an average post count of nearly 0 per day. I found the DDC last year and my post average had risen to around 1 per day. After last night, It's now 1.5 (rounded off).

Oh, and I just want to point out that I didn't use bacon in a single post yesterday!! :lmao:

So... what are we going to do today?

Yeah go figure... I have four(with this one should be five) posts in this thread but had 199 yesterday in our marathon thread. Whats up with that:confused3 I was running out of uploaded pic and could not find my sd card with the rest of them, but the thread got shut down while I was looking. though I have gotten my posting of picture fix.I leave you with this one.Cause if not for these two people(well one person one mouse)our group would not be here today

Have I got an opportunity for you!

Do you like to travel?
Do you like to eat?
Do you like Man vs Food?
Can you jog/walk 2 miles?

Have you ever wanted to combine all these things?

Ever heard of the Doughman Challenge?

If not, it is a team quadrathalon, you have a 4 person team, each person has to eat a dish from a local restaurant then either run (jog/walk), bike, or swim a leg in the race (running legs vary from 2 to 3 miles, biking is 10 miles, swim is smaller run followed by a water activity) then they all eat a group desert and go the final mile to the finish line as a team.

It was an episode of Man Vs Food a couple of years ago and since then it has gained national attention. They only allow 150 teams in the race each year and it sells out in about 30 seconds.

Due to a miscommunication, both my team captain from last year, and I registered teams yesterday. So now I need to find 3 people who want to do the race this year. I figured I'd throw it out to you guys first since this is something just goofy enough to be a DisDad thing. The race is run on Saturday, May 26th and is over with by noon.

Morning.

I tried to hang on, but I was tired myself. Glad to see we managed to close a thread in a day. Congrats on being the last poster.

To be honest, I couldn't really tell you who posted what there for a while. I know I posted some beer and bacon. I did see a lot of nice vacation photos.

Well back to work. Since I spent a lot time posting yesterday, I have a lot to catch up on today.

For the most part, I was oblivious to what was being posted by everyone else, and sometimes, even what I was posting! :rotfl2:

The only time I really stopped to look was when I got a "please wait 12 seconds before trying again" message. I would kill that time by scrolling down to look at the recent posts.

I was aware that when I left for work last night, Randall was breathing down my neck. I figured he'd pass me. However, I never saw Stopher coming. :confused3 My mouth dropped when, close to the end, someone posted the stats and I saw his lead.

Me too James, me too.

What a coincidence, so did I! :rotfl:

Nice! :thumbsup2

After yesterday's zaniness, I'm now up to 9.65 per day apparently.

I also hit 14,000 yesterday. I knew it was coming, was watching the count increase throughout the afternoon, but didn't even realize I'd hit it until 14,019. Of course it's even higher now. Couldn't tell you which photo or smart aleck remark it was achieved at, so no more mention until I hit 15,000. And thankfully there are no more do it in a day threads, so it'll be a little bit before reaching 15K.

So... what are we going to do today?

Go a bit more s l o w l y.....

And that's exactly what I was hoping for. pirate:

When I got back from my event, and saw how close we were to the 250 page mark, I was excited. UNTIL I saw that Randall had surpassed me. You were so far ahead of me throughout the day, I didn't really think I would pass you. Then I saw you slowing down. Something about the train I saw, but I was afraid that the mods would shut it down after 250ish, and I would have no chance. I knew that Randall goes to bed around 9-9:30 because, as he's said many a time... "4am comes awfully early", so I set my sights on besting him, all the while praying those mods would stay away a while longer. Sure I named the thread in honor of Randall... but all along I never intended for him to best me in post count. :rolleyes1 When I reached him, and you weren't posting very much, I thought I might have a fighting chance. Then when I caught you, and passed you, I thought to myself, how far ahead can I get til he tries to catch up. The competitive streak in me had taken over 100%, and I was not going to stop until the thread was closed or we reached midnight, whichever came first. :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: And obviously I didn't.

Thursday morning ownage.

So, DW and I talked about the October trip. The new plan is to try to get Beach Club for the week, or if not the week, the first 2 nights. Since that is F&W festival, I said that was highly unlikely. So, I need to check my dates, but in 2 weeks, I'll be at the 7 month mark and will see what happens.

Sounds nice Norm. Best wishes on getting what you'd like. :thumbsup2 No, I mean that. I'm not being sarcastic here. I hope you do. That'd be cool for you.

That sounds awesome! Too bad North Carolina is juuuuuust a bit outside my travel area.

Is that what we're calling it now? an "event"?? :rotfl2:

JK Stopher!

Oh, not yesterday's madness here online - I was referring to the Eagle Court of Honor that I was the Master of Ceremonies for last evening. That took me away from the boards from about 4:30 - 8:30ish. I might just have been able to steal Norm's "highest post count in a single thread" title away from him if I had been here all day long. But still 684 is my personal highest. I'm not complaining about that. I'm good with being #2 to Norm on that one...

at least for now. :cool2:

It might actually be at least next Wednesday before you hit that milestone. :rolleyes1

I might have some intrest in this, but the only part I am good at is Eating. I will check my calendar and get back to you as soon as I can. This sounds like it would be a fun time for four Dads to get together and do.

I was thinking the same thing. We could do our own here in the Midwest though... You know, but without that running, biking and swimming crap. :lmao::rotfl2:

Cool race. If I were closer I would HAVE to do this as this year it falls on my birthday. What a way to celebrate another year but by eating and racing with your friends.

Good luck finding the right mix of Dads for this, but unless Barry and his "Lightspeed Minivan" are doing the commute, I think I'll have to pass.

I feel very motivated today. It's that, "hey, I achieved something, now let's see what else I can do!" feeling.

Today is March 1. We cruise on August 1. 5 months from now. I'm going to try and get in shape and shed some weight for it.

would you think losing 25lbs total is a reasonable goal? I currently weigh in around 240. Ideally, I'd love to weigh right around 200. losing 5 lbs per month would put me at 215 for the cruise. (and i know i'd come off the cruise weighing 225!)... hmm... perhaps i should shoot for 200 then!

Diet must change!! no more Pepsi and Reese's!! And i think it's time to utilize the Wii Fit.

Trust me, the goal is to survive, not set the course record. The only team I'm really competing against is my old captain's.

I will try and muster up Team Tim and we could use this as part of his training for the ultimate challenge.

You can do it! From what I've read 1-2 lbs per week is a safe rate. You're also less likely to keep the weight off that way. Come join Tim and my 1/2 marathon PTR. Even if you're not running it's a good place for support and to help keep yourself accountable. :thumbsup2
