I really wish I didn't live in the North East. For what I paid for our 1700sqft ranch (300K) in 2005, I could be living LARGE somewhere else in the country.:eek:

That is so true it is scary.

My wife likes watching real estate shows on cable and seeing the housing prices in other areas of the country. I can't watch them because I get too depressed.

For that price, you could have had the same size house with 12 acres of land here in my county. If you lived 30 miles east in the next county, you could have had the same with 36 acres. I begged DW to move to the county. She wanted to live in the city limits. As usual, guess who won that?

This is so very true. When we moved east the second time (to Indy, not to Michigan) was when we were finally able to buy a house. We had started looking in Michigan, but then I was laid off, so we moved back to CA. I don't live super large by any means, but sure could compared to CA prices & all. When we first moved here, my 2000 sf house came with a mortgage that was almost HALF of the rent that we were paying in Orange County for a duplex house that was less than half the sf we got here. We are in a subdivision, so our lot isn't huge by any means. Less than half an acre - but we sure could have gone large acreage-wise if we'd really thought about it. The lot here is nearly identical in size to the lot that I grew up on in So. Cal. My folks bought the house I grew up in when I turned 1 and we lived there til I went off to college. They paid $17K for it in '71 and sold it in '88 for $750K. It sold again in '91 for $1M, then again in 96 for 1.5M and again in '04 for $2M.

DW and I moved into our duplex in Orange before MI in '94 and were paying $500 per month, which by the time we moved to MI had been raised to $750, leaving in early '98. LONG Story, strange events - but AFTER MI we moved back in to the exact same duplex, and had to pay $1300 per month. Our mortgage here in Indy began at $625 per month. It's a bit higher through some refinances & such that added more money to the total, but it's still a far cry from what we were paying in RENT out west. Moving back to CA? Not an option for that reason alone.

Hey guys.

Been a busy day today. Started out working on the website some more, then working through 3 different bookings, and some upcoming marketing for events that I'm quasi-sponsoring. Plus planning for tomorrow's luncheon with the Chamber of Commerce. Thursday is a new networking group that I've joined. Exciting stuff is going on, that's for sure.

I've also identified a couple of cruises that I'm looking to offer as a group booking. I'll have more info on that later.

I'm really bummed that I missed out on the DCL TA offer cruise in May - I missed it by just about 5 mins the lady told me when I called to make my reservation. Those things sell out so very fast. Oh well, next time I'll try again. In it's place I was offered the opportunity for a different type of trip with a different provider, so I might be going to WDW in March now. Trying to determine the details still. I've been saying I need a Florida fix for a while now, and here it just might be. :cool1: if it all works out.

Working on dinner, and getting ready for multiple meetings tonight - have to get 3 people in 3 different directions at pretty much the same time... fun, fun, fun! Plus it's DW's birthday tomorrow - so have to get something at the store for DD, who of course can't drive herself there... what a fun evening it will be.

I've never been happier for someone to be getting slammed with work. Can't wait for the cruise details.:thumbsup2 <----Definite thumb!

:wave2:

What's everyone up to tonight?

Just sitting back relaxing, it would be impossible to top last night in DS's mind.

All the other kids were just taking a sticker and walking away but DS was peppering them with questions and so excited they took down the rope blocking the door and asked him if he wanted the VIP treatment.

I'm waiting for the market to jump again, my property is only 85 X 115 but I'm less then 2miles from the ocean, If I sold now I would still be way ahead, now on as small as the property is on the tax bill the land alone is valued at $147,000 without the house, I feel I can get much more for the money down south:confused3 Jersey shore Real Estate is insane, Thank God I only have a few more months of payments:woohoo:

I hate to end the night with Wienermobile excitement, but my staycation has come to an end. Goodnight and back to work tomorrow.

Night Norm. Sorry you have to go back to work, but hey, keep dreamin' about that retirement. The day'll come where you don't have to get up and go to work...

I have aprox. 1.3 acres. Don't get me wrong, I like my house but I was hesitant to spend what we did on this house. I did not want to be in a ranch. When we bought we looked at a few 400K colonials that were fixer-uppers. :scared1:

30 acres here would cost you a few million. popcorn::popcorn::

I should introduce her to my wife. :rotfl2:

It sure would be nice getting those Disney World resident passes. :thumbsup2
Maybe we could send them to Florida and visit them once in a while for the perks. :rotfl2: :rotfl2::rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Yes, it was a bummer. But that's life. I've known how quickly those TA specials sell out for a while. There was one back in December that I really wanted to go on, but alas, it was sailing from LA to Mexico on the day I was driving from Ft. Lauderdale up to Orlando. So back then I figured, next time... and now once again I'm saying... next time. I wanted it to fulfill the 7+ night cruise requirement for my CLIA certification, but that's okay. There'll be more opportunities down the pike. I'm working on the other aspects that I need, and then when the right time comes, I'll get it knocked off the list as well. But man oh man, the price sure couldn't be beat!
Now you know, you have to jump on these deals ASAP!

I'm sure you won't pass up the next one. ;)

Oh I knew it already.

The booking window was very limited, it said so in the fine print on the information sent out... and like so many other things, you call, get put in a queue and wait until your turn comes to speak to someone... and it really is how close to the opening you're in line. Oh well. As far as itineraries go, I wasn't jumping up and down about it, so while I'm bummed, I'm not truly upset because I'm missing out. Now had it been one to go to Alaska... then yeah, I would have been

Right on the beach there are houses that you can hand something to someone next door via the windows with like no property that are over a million, Myself I just don't want to be that close:scared1:

I'm about 20 miles.. 30min from the shore. I know what you mean. Shoreline property is crazy here too.

Good evening, all!

Long day today. Worked 9-5 for an old client who booked me for this week since DW is off from her job all week. Then I worked my night job, and the next 3 days I have to be in to the day job at 7am, getting out at 3 with a few hours to kill before the night gig. Doing what needs to be done to pay the bills.

No update on the paycheck issue. Response I got initially was, "ok. we'll look into it."

When prioritizing which bills to pay, we had been pushing all the medical bills to the side. Well, that came back to haunt us over the weekend when we got a summons from the lawyer for the plastic surgeon who stitched up DD's forehead after her head-first-run-in-with-the-stairs episode. In my life, I've never had a doctor come after me so hard and so fast for payment. Now we've got to pay the bill, AND cover his attorney's fees, which adds another thousand dollars onto it. (apparently I signed something to that effect while we were standing over DD on the table in the ER.) I called them today and made arrangements to pay it in installments. Not sure why we didn't just do that in the first place. :confused3

Lastly is the update on my youngest brother who was staying as a houseguest last week. Over the weekend, I relocated him to one of our other brothers' apartment back in NJ. The hope is that he'll stay there until he gets a job and gets back on his feet. However, he is already starting to waiver on all his talk about cutting ties with the people who he'd been living with (the ones who left him sleeping outside their house in a car with nothing to eat for four days). The rest of the family is treating this like an intervention. They can't keep him locked up though, so eventually there will come a point where he'll have money and means to leave if he wants, and I guess we'll know then what he really wants. If he does go, I think most of the family will write him off.

gotta get some sleep. goodnight all!

Mornin Guys....

Had to play taps this morning for my TV. My 42" Hitachi Plasma (6 years old) had been giving me fits about not wanting to turn on. I think it's finally done.

:sad2:

But - what does that mean???

New TV for me!!! :cool1:

Good Morning Everybody!

Randy - great Weinermobile pics! Cool bit of trivia for everyone - Oscar Mayer's corporate headquarters is in Madison, Wisconsin. So every Weinermobile out there has Wisconsin license plates!:woohoo:
In case anyone was wondering, they are:YUMMY, OUR DOG, IWSHIWR, OH I WISH, WEENR, WNRMOBL, BOLOGNA, RELSHME, LIL LINK, BIG BUN, WNR MBLE.

(And we have some pretty cheap real estate if anyone wants to relocate.)
