I think that in the month and half that I have been hanging out here I have read reports from three different dads about their DD getting into car accidents. My oldest DD is eleven and you guys are starting to give me panic attacks already.

Not to add to your worries (at least not too much) but DD17 still does not have her license as I refuse to let her drive. She failed drivers training from the school district. Last time we had her behind the wheel she was pin balling (my term for it) from side to side in the lane. She claims she was tracking a straight line. I am glad I had her down by the port on a Sunday and there was not any traffic around, she would have sideswiped cars, mailboxes, trash cans, etc. As it stands now, if she gets her license in March when she turns 18, I will not be adding her to our car insurance. Add to this that she can get lost two miles away from home. Don't know if it is the ADD or she just doesnt care.

Today I have a test for the US Postal Service. They have a few jobs open in the area and while the Postal Service has had problems for a long time and the job security is nonexistent right now, I hope I place well and get a job offer.

I still have not heard back from Boeing on the 8 jobs I have applied for that I am still being considered for, but I do not expect to hear from them until after the 1st of the year. They give all their employees a break with pay from Christmas until New Years so why should they hire someone to work 10 days or so and then pay them not to work for another 8 or 9 days. The employees who do work over the holiday break (limited areas) I think make triple time for the whole week plus. I don't think my DW has ever worked during that time. This is the first year since she was called back that we have not spent Christmas at either WDW or DCA.

At least in Iowa you have some great farm roads to drive for miles without seeing another vehicle. The farm country here is too far away and over the mountains. I took her on a logging road once and she complained it had too many turns.

That is true, although if you stray a little too far to the right in the city you either do a curb check (best case scenario) or sideswipe a car (bad scenario). On a lot of the farm roads around here if you get too far to the right you roll the car into a four foot deep ditch.

My sister was driving 60 MPH down a paved farm road a year or two ago. She was on her cell phone and strayed a little too far to the right. When she hit that gravel on the shoulder the friction/speed differential just sucked her right off the road. If I remember correctly she rolled once and came to a stop on all four wheels about 40 yards into a corn field. Other than being very sore from the seatbelts (which saved her life no doubt) she hadn't a scratch on her and got out to walk to the road to wait for the rescue support.

Yeah, I think the next five years until DD11 gets to drive can go REALLY slowly please.

I am on our local volunteer fire department, and i have seen some things and have seen a lot of what you guys are talking about. Reading your posts i get a chuckle because i have seen these things. You see a lot of "How the heck did you do that" also.

Well, two of the stories were mine. She accepts the responsibility for paying for at least part of this one. The cop didn't give her a ticket and she said the guy she hit was pretty nice about it. I guess a girl crying her eyes out will do that. Plan is to call him tonight to see about paying for it off insurance.

Ah the joys of being a dad. Can't really complain much about her because I don't have to deal with really bad problems some dads encounter with their kids. There could be worse things out there. That and she will be off to college in the fall.

Makes me want to get away this weekend to WDW even more. She will be driving part of the way so if you are heading north on the Florida Turnpike, keep you eyes out for a white Kia.

Sorry… can’t promise y’all that one. Their desire for independence arrives long before the sense if immortality dissipates. My DS actually is a pretty good driver for sixteen and rather cautious (thank the divine). I did the initial lessons; he scored well at driving school and aced the DMV exam. But, experience can’t be bought or lucked into. Case and point…

He has now learned that the garage door frame simple will not move out of your way just because you misjudged the angle of attack.

Someone needs to invent a device that can be installed in every vehicle which will immediately disable all cell phones in the drivers compartment once the transmission moves into any gear other then "Park".

I hope it pans out, but the uncertainty and anxiety will be tough to deal with. These are two modern job related facts that I struggle with daily. If government jobs seem to be tenuous, consider working in textiles. In my career we’ve shifted form over 45000 soles to under 2k and from manufacturing to importing. Not pretty.

On a lighter note...
I have found out they opened up dates for the Wishes Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert party through the times i am going. The wife and myself have a few questions about it. Does anyone know how many people total are allowed to be there per night (roughly), and how is the view of the fireworks from there? I am thinking about making it our last night hurrah. What are your guys' thoughts.

We've done this. I liked it, but not every one will. They seat about 150 folks on the terrace. It's very calm and the deserts were excellent. The view of the fireworks will be from a bit of an angle though. The castle will not be centered under the show from this vantage point (which some folks find rather jarring), but you do have a great unobstructed view of the proceedings.

Yep.

This is a huge pet peeve of mine (especially as a pedestrian in a college town where I frequently have to dodge students who aren't paying attention while they drive and are on the phone.). I frequently tell her to call me back once she gets home and hang up on her. I won't participate in the process.

I've completed my list of places we want to eat on our next trip, since we are staying off site this time, and it will be out of pocket, I wanted to try a couple of places not on the DP

- T-Rex Cafe
- Whispering Canyon Cafe
- Shark's Underwater Grille (Seaworld)

I think those look great. We really enjoyed our dinner at Whispering Canyon. Yes, there's a lot of shtick to it. But our waitress did a great job of "reading" the table, and figuring out who was up for the shenanigans and who wanted to be mostly left alone.

I'm pretty sure I have $25 gift certificates to both House of Blues and Shula's that I'm happy to pass along. If you're interested, just shoot me a PM. I bought a bunch of them when they were on sale for 90% on Restaurant.com

As for T-Rex, we have the only other T-Rex outside of Downtown Disney here in KC. It's is essentially Rainforest Cafe with Dinosaur decor (it's owned by the same folks). The food is average at best, but the decor is pretty impressive. I'd say it's worth doing once, especially if you have a kid who's a dinosaur fan.

1. Right-click on your TR thread link, and choose "Copy Shortcut" or "Copy Link" (depending on your browser).
2. Go to the User CP link near the top-left of the page. Choose Edit Signature from the list on the left.
3. In the box that looks pretty much like a new post box, you should see your existing signature. Just type out the name of your TR and highlight it. While it's highlighted, choose the icon of the world with a chain link in front of it. In the box that pops up when you click that icon, paste what you copied in Step 1 and click OK.

Sounds like my oldest. She's only 10 and I am afraid now. I'll yell squirrel to try to get her attention she is so easily distracted. My greatest fear is still her dating.

Morning guys. Hope all are doing well. One month until we're in WDW for 5 days. Can't wait!

I really hate to tell you this Don, but we went to the MK 3 different nights last week and MVMCP night was by far the most crowded. I think part of it is that they didn't clear the crowd out at 7 though. It was a cool evening and everyone was wearing jackets or sweatshirts. I know you couldn't see the band on my wrist under my sweatshirt and the only CM that ever asked to see it was the guy at the entrance of Tomorrowland Speedway. .

Plan to make a MVMCP one day. We tried to outsmart ourselves this year, which is hard when you are from KY. We went to MK on a non MNSSHP day, thinking it would not be that crowded. The park hit capacity. Don't over think it and have fun.

Schula's is on our list. T-Rex is fun. As other said, Rainforest Cafe with dinosaurs with different themed rooms as well. Teppen Edo was similar to other Japanese restaurants we have in KY. It was good and fun show, but nothing dramatically different. We had an average experience at WCC. I think it depends on the server. Good choices. Have a great trip.

Getting up at 5:00 central paid off! I got 1900 park fare breakfast & Chef Mickey before the parks open (no wasted time, if possible.) And I got a Le Cellier Lunch and a Coral Reef Dinner.... AT lunch & Dinner times.

So, so happy!

And this will be my first experience at Cinderella's Royal Table.
