DDA's New Year's Weight Loss accountability Thread

I am down another 2 pounds so total lost is 33.8 pounds. I was hoping for that other .2 pounds, but not to be this week. It was beautiful walking weather here this a.m. About 40 degrees with bright sunshine. Now it is back up to 68 and I think the dog and I may take another walk before lunch!

For all the traveling I did and the leftover food from restaurants, I bought one of those coolers that plug into the car. It works wonders. It also has a converter so that it can plug in at home. It is just big enough to put a six-pack (or a lunch).

Now there's an idea! Our anniversary is coming up, and that might just fit the bill! Thanks.

Congrats on the weight loss! I do my weigh in tomorrow, so I'm hoping for a loss. We'll see.

I hope you have a loss too, Glynis. I hate when I follow my diet so carefully and I see almost no change or no change. Drives me nuts! But it does come off eventually, so the disappointment does not last long :)

How hard is Pilates? The hardest I've ever done is aerobics, but I'd like to try something different on my "rest" days. I'm feeling a lot better about the walking/jogging, and would like to supplement that with something else. During the summer, I'll be able to join our community rec center that offers different classes and I'm looking for suggestions; yogy, Pilates, step aerobics, etc. What do you think would be best for someone who up until 5 months ago was extremely overweight and not very limber?

Anyone?

Pilates can be very challenging, if you make it so. It is also very simple to start out... a good instructor and/or video will tell you how to simplify (or complicate ;) ) each move. I personally can't stand yoga. I know a lot of people love it, but it is too boring for me and a little goofy. Sorry to anyone who likes it, Kyle does too.... so please do'nt take it personally :rotfl: Both will help with flexibility, but I think Pilates, IMO, tones and increases flexibility more than yoga.

I have done Pilates for about 10 years now when I started with a particular ballet company. I have nothing but good things to say about it, and could go into more detail about what I like if you wanted (either here or via PM).

As for joining that rec center, I say GO FOR IT! I thoroughly enjoyed working out in high school and at Miami because of group exercise classes. Each type is so different, and there are so many things available to try! I had a blast. I wish I could say the same now  Good timing, though. I just went to a class today called "Cardio Step Challenge". I thought it sounded like fun, but I don't think I'm going to be able to breathe tomorrow! :rotfl: Regular, basic step classes are very easy to learn though, again IMO. And my mom thinks the same thing, so I don't think it has anything to do with dance, etc, trust me :)

Another one I loved? Jazzercise  It's cheesy as all get out but I had so much fun! I wish my gym offered it, but it doesn't and I don't need to join a jazzercise center in addition to dance and our gym.

Hope those help! Like I said, I have lots of opinions on group fitness classes, so feel free to ask questions. And sorry if I answered too much! :rotfl:

Thanks for the info. It's exactly what I needed to hear. Is there a lot of equipment to buy for Pilates? It has intrigued me for years, but I always felt too fat to really commit to it. Now I'm feeling dofferently. Lately, I feel like I could do anything! I have so much energy!

I'll start looking into classes at the rec center, as well. I love all the information and advice, so feel free to keep it coming!

Kate, glad to see you back. Take it easy on the knee for now. I guess you could do sit ups, we all know how pleasant those are

The weather is getting really nice around here now so I hope to get outside more. I have been power cleaning as we have company coming for Easter and then the big party on the 23rd. Does cleaning cupboards and toy boxes count as exercise? :yay:

It is nice to see so many people posting again and by the looks of these posts there are alot of success stories. Keep up the good work.

Deb

Just a mat! And even that is technically optional, although I highly recommend it. You can find them at WalMart or Target :)

Cool! I think I know what the Easter Bunny will be bringing me. Do you have a specific Pilates video that you would recommend?

Hi everyone!
Hope i can come back :)
Things have gotten very hectichere the last couple of weeks and my exercise has slowed down, almost stopped--With everything going on, i need to focus on school and family right now, but i want to make May 3 my day of starting again! im at 143-144 now, so not too bad, but summer is coming and the cruise in november !
Id love to get back into it!

So I had a rough scale morning!

I have lost 11 pounds since January. Well, I HAD lost 11 pounds. In the last 6 days, I have gained 3 pounds!!!??!!!! And I can't just chalk it up to the holiday weekend, because I REALLY didn't eat that much. Shouldn't be water weight either..... :confused3

GRR! Well, I'm taking my sister to a play and lunch this afternoon, but I guess I need to start dieting again TOMORROW! Please someone, get on my case and make sure I do!!

Oops! Sorry Glynis, I didn't see this the other day. Did the Easter Bunny bring you a mat? :teeth:

I don't have a specific recommendation except to just start with a mat-based workout. Some videos have a mat and a standing part, and others even add cardio and strength on top of it. I would suggest just a true Pilates mat workout. Some of the move can feel kind of tricky (although I promise they get easier exponentially!) and it's best to stay on the floor to focus on form, etc

No mat, yet, but I'm hoping it will happen soon! Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try to find something. I appreciate all the help and advice.

Hi....I ate too much this Easter weekend but am now back on track. Going to make a nice egg white omelet & berries on the side.

Hi yall. I didn't get to go to my WW meeting last night-unexpectedly had to work late night clinic & I have my monthly visitor so I decided to skip the weigh in this week. Hopefully, I will hit that 30lb loss mark next Tuesday.

Everybody keep going & don't get discouraged. We all have good days & bad days, but the important thing is to just keep trying. :cheer2: :cheer2:

Glynis-
that means alot to me--thank you!

Hi, all! Here I am looking for accountability!

Thanks for all of the support on the main thread today.

I have a lot to lose, but I think I'll to it in 10 pound increments. So here's to the first 10!

I am following Weight Watchers, but for the time being I am not going back to meetings. I know what I need to do, and I think that I can do it with the support of my DDA family and my real family. But if I fail to check in or to consistently show losses, tell me to get my butt to a meeting!

I haven't read this thread yet. I'll start reading back now.

Beth
