DDA's New Year's Weight Loss accountability Thread

WTG Deb!

All the talk about the marathon makes me really wish I could do the 1/2 with you guys --I always do better when I have a goal like where exercise is involved, or a special event like a wedding. We had already planned a trip to WDW for mid-December, and I don't want to go back on my word to the kids.....

Why oh why can't I just do it because I'll be healthier and happier? Nope, that special event goal always helps a great deal... Right now, the cruise (and my mouth ulcers) are the biggest motivators....

Have a good day everyone. As my WW instructor used to say, I hope there is less of us all next time we "see" each other....

Marci. Mouth ulcers are what catapulted my original weight loss. It was 3 years ago and I had 17 ulcers in my mouth. I only put what was absolutely necessary in my mouth for those 2 weeks. It was horrible, I'm really surprised that I didn't get dehydrated. I know exactly what you're going through, I feel your pain :sad2: . I know that you've had them for a while so hopefully things will begin to clear up. In my case we have no idea what even caused them and they started while we were on a week long vacation (camping trip). I know that they are terrible, but they definately helped me lose 10 lbs in 2 weeks :thumbsup2 . I hope you have a big weight loss to give you a little benefit from the pain.

Hi all.

I would like to jump in here if I might. Here's the story. I have always battled my weight. Every 2 years or so I lose 40-50 lbs keep it off for a year & then gain it all back. I am at the point where I need to lose again & would like to keep it off permantly. So hard to eat healthy when there no time to prepare, measure, & count& running around with the kids. Ok I need some motivation from you guys. I have been trying to do WW's since January..I do well for a week or more & then fall off the wagon. I have had 100 day #1's!!!

My motivation: Health first. Also we will be at Disney in August & I'd really like to lose weight for the trip.

You guys have all been doing great..maybe some of that will rub off on me. :teeth:

Hi everyone! I am back. Of course, in the meantime I have been doing terribly   I am currently at the exact same weight that I started at on Jan 1st. Now, I'm going to get back on track. I am hoping that a couple of things will help.

1. Our company is doing a weight loss contest between the various office. The winning office wins $5,000 for the office for health things (don't know what that part means) and each participant in the office wins $200.

2. With my new work schedule I really need to pack my lunch every day or my Disney money will slowly disappear.

So...I plan to fix extras at dinner everynight. The first serving goes into the fridge for my lunch. The next two go to me and Terra for dinner. Then Phil has plenty for his dinner plus has something to eat that is quick to grab while watching Terra during the day.

I am really hoping to make this work for our better health. Now, off to eat my morning snack of fat free yogurt.

Welcome Anne Marie! We are very friendly here! Just feel free to come here for support, let us celebrate with you and anything else you need. This has been the best motivation for me. To have people who are in my corner 100% makes all the difference in the world. If you want, you can chart your progress on the Weight Loss Progress Thread. I edit mine weekly when I weigh in. Then I come over here to chat about it and get help when I need it.

We're here for you!

Nice to see you back, Tia! Wow, 200$ would motivate me a bunch! Good luck with the packing your lunch! I do that for DH, and it's saving us a bunch of money, that I'm putting in our DL stash. If you need anything, just let us know.

Every once in a while I'll post a low carb recipe since that's what I'm working for me. I'd love to know what you make to pack for lunch. Sometimes I feel like I just pack the same things for DH, and I know he'd like variety.

Anne Marie

I'm glad you found us. We seem to do well at motivating each other so hopefully alot will rub off on you. I find that taking it day by day isn't enough, I have to take it hour by hour. Everytime I want to eat I have to rationalize whether I'm actually hungry or eating for another reason such as boredom or stress etc. It definately isn't easy, but it seems to be working. I am doing low carb as it has worked in the past. We have all noticed more motivation to get moving since it is getting nicer outside. I know that I still have a few lbs to lose before I will be getting in any bathing suit. I hope to get back to where I was last year (143 lbs) then I can try to lose those tough last pounds. Chris and I made a deal that if we weren't back to our original weight loss low by May 1st then we would deduct one day from our next Disney vacation for each month that we need to reach the goal. We are both Disney obsessed so we are really pushing each other. We will succeed, WE WILL SUCCEED.

Deb

Thank you very much Glynis & Deb for the warm welcome!!! I think this thread is just what I needed for a good ole kick in the butt & a way to stay focused.

Deb, I like your motivational idea about deducting days from vacation. Wow you are dedicated. Now I would never bring that idea up to my DH :rotfl2:

I would like to get back between 140-145 lbs. I am 5'7 so that is a good weight for me & I have most of my clothes for that weight. My motivation is I do not want to buy anymore bigger clothes.

After I posted this morning, I took a brisk walk for 45 minutes before getting my little one from nursery school so thats a positive start.

Again, thanks for the kind words..

Tia Congrats on the recommitment to loose. I am doing Weight Watchers myself & it's a day by day thing. :thumbsup2

Deb........wow that is an incredible source of motivation.....I don't think I would like to start putting my weight loss up against my Disney trips, but I can see how that would keep you on track. :teeth:

Anne Marie.......welcome. :grouphug: It's always nice to have another person here for support & chat. This is a great group.

Tomorrow is weigh day for me so I hope I will be back lighter than last week.
I am getting close to that 30 lb star.

Welcome, Anne Marie! Sounds like you are off to a good start.

Glynis - my lunches so far are just leftovers from dinner. To start with, that is the easiest for me to deal with. As I get settled into a routine, I may try to do something else. What kinds of things do you send for DH?

Hey all -

I haven't posted even though I am still trying - I have joined weight watchers and lost 2 pounds so far - but I had a bad week so I don't know how that will go

I am most frustrated b/c of my inability to really exercise - it should get better in a couple of months once I am done with physical therapy on my knee - but he confirmed my suspicion that I can't really do anything physical until my knee heals - so I guess I will have to rely on points to help me lose!

Kate
- any weight loss without additional exercise is hard to achieve, so good for you! We will still be here when your knee is healed and you can really start in again.

Hey, eating right is a good first step! Could you try something stationary like Pilates? I do it whenever I can, but I definitely stuck with it when I couldn't exercise due to back problems. It's really zero-impact but with great results!

Good morning,

Plan for today to walk for 45 minutes. My little one is home today so I'll put her in the stroller & off we go to the library.

Thanks for all the support!

I totally understand, Kate! My knee has been hurting off and on so I have curtailed my walking some days too. Good job on the couple of pounds!!

When we have leftovers, that's what he gets. If not, I try to do some kind of wrap as they are easiest for him to handle. He is a photographer for a news station, so he really doesn't have access to a "kitchen" to warm anything up, so I do plenty of turkey wraps, etc. I also try to stick in a piece of string cheese, and some fruit or yogurt. It's really saving us a lot of money. I know he's getting kind of bored with the wraps, but I don't dare send much that might spoil in his car, especially with warmer weather coming up. A while ago we invested in some small coolers for his car, but, typically, they are gone. We don't know where.

You have got to take care of that knee. You have a very important DDA trip coming up that we want you well for!

Just do the best you can, that's all any of us can do. And, hey, 2 pounds is great! I'm at the point where my body is trying not to lose any more weight, even though I've got 20 more pounds to go. It's frustrating, but I'll celebrate any loss at this point!

We are just glad to hear that your knee will not require surgery! Take care and do your therapy. We still want to see you at the half!

How hard is Pilates? The hardest I've ever done is aerobics, but I'd like to try something different on my "rest" days. I'm feeling a lot better about the walking/jogging, and would like to supplement that with something else. During the summer, I'll be able to join our community rec center that offers different classes and I'm looking for suggestions; yogy, Pilates, step aerobics, etc. What do you think would be best for someone who up until 5 months ago was extremely overweight and not very limber?

Anyone?

That sounds like fun! I wish I could do that, but it's a drizzly day here. Hopefully it will clear up soon! I actually did 30 minutes on the treadmill this morning, so I guess I'll be happy with that until the sun comes out!

For all the traveling I did and the leftover food from restaurants, I bought one of those coolers that plug into the car. It works wonders. It also has a converter so that it can plug in at home. It is just big enough to put a six-pack (or a lunch).
