DDA Favorite Recipes Thread

Traditional pierogies are a polish dish. There are little pasta/dough pockets filled with potatoes or cabbage or cottage cheese that are boiled then fried in a skillet with butter and onions. My Grandma used to amke them from scratch every Christmas.

Most know the as Mrs. T's frozen Perogies found in your grocer's freezer!

Here's a contribution. Hope you all like sweets.

Moist Caramel Apple Cake

1 pkg. yellow cake mix
1 pkg. (4 serving size) French vanilla instant pudding mix
1 C. water
4 eggs
1/3 C. vegetable oil
3 Granny Smith apples, peeled, coarsely chopped
20 caramels, unwrapped
1/4 C. milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a bundt pan. Beat cake mix, dry pudding mix, water, eggs and oil in a large bowl on low speed until blended. Beat on high 2 minutes. Gently stir in apples. Pour into prepared pan. Bake 50 minutes to 1 hour or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool 20 minutes; remove from pan. Cool completely on wire rack. Microwave caramels and milk 1 1/2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds, until blended. Cool 10 minutes until slightly thickened. Drizzle over cake.

Raspberry Coconut Cake

1 pkg. white cake mix
3 C. flaked coconut, divided
6 squares (1 oz. each) white baking chocolate
1/4 C. heavy whipping cream
3/4 C. seedless raspberry jam
1 C. butter, softened
1 C. confectioner's sugar

Prepare cake batter according to package directions; fold in 2/3 cup coconut. Pour into 2 greased 9-inch round baking pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks to cool completely. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine white chocolate and cream. Microwave, uncovered for 1 minute or until chocolate is almost melted; stir until smooth. Cool to room temperature. In a small bowl, combine jam and 1 cup coconut. Spread over one cake layer; top with second layer. In a small mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy; gradually beat in white chocolate mixture. Spread over top and sides of cake. Toast remaining coconut; sprinkle over cake.

I thought I would add my all time favorite recipe! This is the best pound cake and family and friends ask me to make it all of the time. I think it is so good because my generation and younger have lost the true art of baking, but I was lucky enough to get this recipe from a more mature friend and she told me the secrets to baking a pound cake. Hope you love it as much as my family and friends do! This is a large recipe so if you make it in a bundt pan...make sure it is a large pan or when it rises...it will overflow.

And one more that is super easy and GREAT for fall or winter! This is a good recipe for a crock pot or to take to a church gathering or party.

Oops! I copied and pasted the posts from the Disney recipe thread when I found this one and forgot to delete that line. :goodvibes I thought I was originally posting to this thread when I was posting on the other thread. I have this one saved now...so it should make it easier for me to find next time!

This thread is PERFECT - I'm going to be cooking up a storm for the holidays and I love trying out new recipes - the DDA does move fast, so I'm SO glad you started this RECIPE thread!!!!

Thanks!!!!!!!! :goodvibes

My husband is going to kill me... I already spend so much time on here getting info about disney and now recipes. Cleaning house is not even an option anymore.:rotfl2:

LOL - I had to reply to you........... someone requested a DISign from me just the other day and in her siggie was this...........

"Housework wont kill you -- But WHY take the chance"

LOL I thought you'd appreciate that!!!! :goodvibes

And to share even though this isn't really a "recipe" per se........ but, since it's football season......... and in our house we LOVE nachos......... this is awesome cheese sauce, when you make the cheese for your nachos - using canned cheese or jar cheese ** NOT Velveeta ** - add 7-up to it....... yes seriously - it makes it so smooth and SOOOOO GOOOD - everyone loves it. Just pour in 7-up to your cheese while you are heating it........ the amount of cheese you are heating determins the amount of soda you add, but just taste to see how much - you cannot mess it up!! When we have a lot of people over, I get the HUGE cans of cheese sauce and add an entire 2 litre bottle of 7-up. Also, IF you are using a crock pot (for tailgating) - USE a liner!!!!!!!!!!!

Since Wendy mentioned the holidays...I thought I would add one more recipe. Let me first say...I DO NOT like fruit cake and I dont know a lot of people that do, but I LOVE these cookies!!! This is a family recipe and my grandmother along with all of the wonderful southern bakers in her family made these for christmas every year. These along with crescent cookies never last long in our home!

This may be a way to get your fruit cake fix and get others to enjoy it with you. I don't know what it is about these cookies...but they are very addictive! It is good that I only make them during the holidays...otherwise...I might be as big as a house. :goodvibes If you make them...let me know what you think.

Bump! Here's a super easy and delicious beer bread and dip recipe.

RECIPE:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Spray a loaf pan with PAM
After the oven preheats, stir 1 can light beer (room temperature), 2 1/2 cups self-rising flour, and 1/2 cup sugar until mixed well.
Pour into your loaf pan.
Bake for 45-50 minutes until top is brown

*Optional, spread top with margarine or butter right out of the oven for a buttery top. Mmmm... (Good when serving with dinner, but doesn't make much sense for cutting into cubes for appetizer.)

As for the cheese dip...Mix 1 jar Kraft Old English cheese (found near the Velveeta and parmesan cheese at the store), with 8 oz. of softened cream cheese, using a hand mixer. Heat up before serving to get softer consistency.
