DDA Chapter 8

We do get the SNOW, but we are in the mountains. Been a long, long time since we have hit 100º

We usually have a few 100+ days each summer. But even if we don't have 100 degree temps, with the humidity that we get it SEEMS like 100. I would think that most people around here have air conditioning. You would have to! Now in DC, in certain areas, I doubt it.

HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY BECKY!

My cousin rented a car recently and she said every time they would exit to put gas in the car or get a snack the GPS would get all snarky and say "Re - CAL - culating!" :rotfl:

Isn't it funny how we anthropomorphize things like that. There are days that I would swear that "Daniel" is getting frustrated with me, and I start talking back to "him."

The 5 of us are no problem. It is adding my parents for 10 days in our camper and trying to tour the parks with my brother's family. I'm not afraid to split us up though.

I wouldn't do well trying to do Disney (or really most any travel) with anyone else. I'm a bit of a control freak. My MIL hinted about joining us for this trip out West, but she never really asked. They definitely have a different style than I do. My mother also hinted about it initially, but then she and my dad did the loop this past Fall by themselves.

I am shocked how hot is for y'all WAY up North. It was around 90 here today. So y'all have feet and feet of snow in the winter and then the heat we get (or hotter). :scared1: Has it always gotten so hot for you, or is this really unusual?

I think our July average high is 87, and most of the time nights get down into the 60's. This is a bit unusual for June, but we aren't breaking any records. I think that I read that we usually have 7-10 days during the summer in the 90's.

Do you hit over 100 on average? Here in GA we hardly ever hit 100. For Deb in Vermont to have the heat, Anne Marie and Marti in NY... it's like the South moved up and they get the winter too. And for all those people up there who don't have AC, it is so dangerous and UNCOMFORTABLE.

Marti is a bit further north, and, if I remember correctly from when I lived there, there weren't many days in the high 80's-low 90's. July high average for that area is low 80's. It is less humid up that way, too. They get more snow than we do, though we still get feet. I think generally Anne Marie's temps are higher than here with less snow in the winter as well. NYS can vary alot depending upon the region.

The snow is expected and so is the heat, but it is usually only a couple of weeks and it is in the middle of summer, not in June. Our schools don't even have AC. My mother said that they had the high school students sitting on the floors today as that was much cooler then at the desks. We are already making up snow days so it would be unlikely that they cancel due to heat. The seniors graduate on Thursday, but then have to attend school all next week to make up snow days :confused3
Our high school is in the process of putting in AC. It is only running in a few select areas (computer classrooms) right now. They closed the 4th floor the last two days because it was so hot up there. Laura had a to take an English test yesterday in a crowded auditorium. The high school is done with regular classes on Friday. Laura will have half day exams Mon-Thurs and the following Tuesday. Matthew will have a full day on Friday and half days on Tuesday (the opposite half from Laura) and Wednesday. Miles is done on Tuesday (6/24). I know that in past years it has been HOT on some of their exam days, so I guess this isn't completely unusual for us.

I'm getting my hair cut/permed on Saturday. I've been growing it out for the last several months, but with all this talk of hot weather I think it is time to go short again. I looked like a drowned rat when I got done at the dam today and of course I took the kids to their appointments looking that way. With the heat and humidity coming on strong I will look better short and wavy (short and curly sounded way wrong :rotfl: )
I really need to do something with my hair, but I don't know what I want. It grows SO SLOWLY that I hate to do anything too drastic.

I really liked the voice. Yes it does recalculate, but it got me home. I liked the map, it was right on. tomorrow will tell.
Do you have a choice of voices? We (well, I) like the British male the best. The Australian male comes in a close second.

I do fine....we use it mainly for areas we are unfamiliar with...not a daily use thing. It is helpful for me because Bill backseat drives me less...:rotfl:
My parents noticed less squabbling when they starting using theirs.

Well to hear the weather people, you would have thought the world was going to end. It was no were near as bad as just the other day.
Ours, too. I think that some areas may have had the severe storms, but we didn't have anything too bad. There were tornado watches in effect which is very unusual for our area.

Yes, we usually see upper 90's-100 in late July-mid August, normally not this early. However in 1999 (the year Daniel was born) he was 3 or 4 days old & we had a heat wave of 100 for 3 days & that was June 4th.

We got only a dusting to maybe 2 inches total of snow this winter which was good enough for me! Being near the beach also gives us nice breezes so its never as hot here as it is in NYC. I love our location weatherwise just not tax-wise!:faint: :lmao:

We weren't quite that hot here that year, but I was dealing with a 2-week old, and it was plenty hot and sticky for us.

Bob and I have 3 through 7 on CD so if anyone is interested, let me know. It's the ONLY way I could get him to read the books. His comment before listening to the CD's was "I can see it at the movie theatre." OMG! It's totally not the same! :rotfl: So getting them on CD has been worth it - we relisten to them on our long trips.

Hopefully the weather will calm down - My old broken central air unit needs a break. Since our storms two nights ago, I haven't had it on. Let's hope it stays cool for a few more days.

Amy - thanks for the offer! I ended up hitting the submit button last night. I had to do it or else I'd never hit the button until the last possible moment. THIS step is making it real for me. I'm sure when I get them in the mail that's gonna freak me out too. If you'd still like to see the "official" proof, I'll send you a pm with my work email.

Speaking of the invites, I also found out that the response cards, hotel cards and reception cards are ALL FOLDED. I'm already over the size limit for needed a more expensive stamp - and all I need is more weight. :faint: So thanks to a couple suggestions from others, and thankfully our invitations do not have a border, I'm cutting the hotel and reseption cards in half. :scared: I'll buy a nice paper cutter for that and use the leftover paper for our placecards! Guess I better start practicing my calligraphy again...

Mom comes home on Friday from NV and then Saturday we go to Detroit for the first of two showers. Should be an easy weekend.

OK, off to get ready to work!

Have a wonderful day everyone!

It sounds like you know what you're doing in regards to the invites. I agree about keeping postage costs down.

HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY BECKY!

It has cooled off here too. The expected highs are in the mid 80s today and even cooler tomorrow. Colby has his last ST today so we will head off to that then spend the day indoors and out of the sun. His poor little cheeks are so red from yesterday.

poor little guy. Sometimes you can pour that sunscreen on & they still come out looking like lobsters. Good luck at speech for Colby today.

.

I am still playing around with it and I don't think I have a choice of the voice.

I just finished looking at Vicki's photopass pictures. Seeing her sister and niece and nephew reminded me of me and my two, except her kids are a few years older. The kids look like they are having such a fun time, it brought tears to my eyes, after all they have been through. I loved the HSM pictures. And they have photopass photographers at the waterparks taking pictures of you in the water? I didn't know that. Cool!
