DDA Chapter 8

Happy Sunday everyone!

It took me a while to catch up this morning - even with the holiday weekend upon us, you guys have been chatty! I read everything, but I am having a hard time remembering - so a huge dose of :woohoo:  :wizard: all around!

Things are hopefully going to be a bit more "normal" here over the next couple of days, as I have so much to do before we go to Kauai on Friday. However, my holiday weekend did not start out as planned! I have been having some back pain since Thursday, but really didn't think much of it, since it was more uncomfortable than anything. It wasn't until I was driving myself home on Friday that the pain began to be unbearable. I cried all the way home, and when I got here had to have Jonathan help me get undressed and into bed. I have never had pain like this before, but it was completely immoblizing and meds, nor heat, helped it.

Fortunately, Jonathan insisted that we go to the ER yesterday morning. I'm sure many of you could see this coming....but it looks like I may have had a kidney stone, and have also been diagnosed with a kidney cyst. (They originally thought the cyst was a stone when the tech was reading the CT, but then decided it was a cyst. However, since my back pain is almost gone, it could be that I passed a small stone about the time they did the CT.)

Anyways, I am feeling so much better today. I have never been so thankful to be able to move! And I haven't had any pain meds in over 12 hours, so I really think I'm on the mend. I still need to somehow see a urologist before we leave town just to get the cyst checked out, but at least I know I should hopefully be pain free from this point forward.

Glynis and Deb (and anyone else who gets these with regularity) - oh my gosh, you deserve a medal!!!!!! Granted, I don't yet know what childbirth feels like, but I can't imagine it to be that much worse!

Now that I'm feeling better, though, I need to try to fit 3-days' worth of activities into 2, so I'm off for now. Have great Sundays, DDA!

I would say that contractions during childbirth are just as painful but you get moments of respite between them where you can catch your breath. So to me, the kidney stone was much worse because the pain just never went away.

For the record, Stephanie... I was not being critical of your post, but, complimentary! You can tell people to calm down and look at things from a different perspective better than anyone else on here (with possibly the exception of Glynis :goodvibes ). I, for one, appreciate your point of view and envy your ability to make it known without hurting feelings. Don't change a thing...
Thanks Elin. :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

I am hoping to get to see Stone Mountain again in August. I have a training seminar in Lilburn and I hope we have enough leeway in our schedule to see it. The last time we were there was in 1979! Kathrin was a little one in a stroller.
Loved Stone Mountain! Just loved it. I liked the 4d movie, but since I saw Terry's reaction, I know she will nevrer do ITTBAB or, heaven forbid! Honey I Shrunk the Audience. (can you imagine her in that since she hates snakes!!!):goodvibes

I agree, I really hope they make it to their 60th wedding anniversary.

Had my Pop-pop lived to December 5th of his final year of life, instead of passing away on Feb 9th, my Grandparents would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Also had he survived until August 8th he would have celebrated his 90th birthday. Then again his wife would have celebrated her 90th birthday had she made it until January 4th, 2008 instead of passing away on August 8th, 2007.
Hi Becky!

Love your siggie.:goodvibes

Anne Marie,

We love our Wii too! In fact, my DGD went to a friends house just a few minutes ago and took guitar hero and Mario Karts. Well my poor DGS held on to the DVD and just screamed. Finally his mother put Alvin and the Chipmonks movie on his sister's laptop so he would be okay for me while they went over to the friends. I wanted to lay on the floor with him though!! No Mario Karts until tomorrow! How would we survive???:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I second this statement! Stephanie, don't change a thing!

Thanks Vicki.:goodvibes :goodvibes

I need to finish my office too. I finally figured out what I'm going to do with it. I have to start with the office closet and THEN I'll be able to organize the rest of the junk. Just knowing that makes the job easier. :goodvibes

I hate snakes and barely made it through that scene. We went once to Honey I Shrunk the Audience for that reason. I'm trying to get myself prepped to handle it if my niece and nephew want to see it.

Vicki, the snake in HISTA is huge. This is not cartoon bugs and stuff like ITTBAB. This is a real snake the size of the theather. :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: And there are mice and a lion. Very vivid. Not cartoony at all.

I don't know how to prepare you for that. If you really hate snakes, you might pass out. Not kidding.

Oh, I'm so glad you got in and got pain meds, as well as passed the stone (assuming that's what it was)! Good luck getting all of your things done this week..... Hawaii is so close (for you, anyway)! :goodvibes

Well, we have had a really nice day. My DD's birthday is Tuesday. We went to a really nice brunch today and the kids were on their best behavior through the meal. That was the best gift they could give her.:goodvibes

My DGD has gone over a friend's house. Alvin and the Chipmonks movie just stopped so I don't know what my DGS and I are going to do since she took the Wii!!!!!

The kids and I picked out a nice cake for her yesterday. I'll pick that up tomorrow morning. :cake: I want to go to my DS's home tomorrow and see my other two grandkids, but they are so exhausted they are not up for company. :sad1:

Well, I hope all of you have a nice holiday.

Nice pictures Robyn! Sounds like fun plans Elin and Tammi. And I love the sound of all your home improvements Janet.:goodvibes :goodvibes

We used to be able to watch cartoons on the week-ends until mom and dad got up. We loved them sleeping in. We were also able to get a bowl of cold cereal, our placemats and eat in the living room. It is the ONLY time we were EVER allowed to eat in the living room. As long as we were quiet and didn't make a mess, they let this continue. We thought it was a treat for us having them sleep in. It wasn't until I was an adult that I realized it was more for them than us.

that is exactly what my brother and sister and I did on Saturday mornings! We also came up with unique snack items... like hard bits of brown sugar and stale potato chips with salt. :rotfl2:

Yikes! Hang in there Lindsay. I sure hope everything is okay. Kidney stones are horrible!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes

I am so sorry you had to go through that, Lindsay! I am glad you are feeling better today and know that you are looking forward to your annual Kawai trip. I will send good thoughts that the cyst won't cause any trouble and that there are no more stones to cause you pain. Kristin says, "Take care of yourself, Lindsay!"

agreed, Vicki... don't do it unless you are fully aware of this!

Kristin and I just waddled in from the Greek Festival. Can I say YUM-MY??? Greek meatballs, tiropita, souvlaki, spanikopita and then so many pastries we had to bring them home! Baklava, nut roll, loukamades, etc., etc., etc. We got all this (enormous portions that we shared) and drinks for under $40!

Oh, sweetie! Deb and I didn't need another member of the club!!! I'm so sorry that you had a kidney stone!

For the rest of your life, you will remember the pain, so you will be able to feel it coming on and start heavy duty pain meds right from the beginning! Ask your doctor to prescribe some for you to have on hand (if they'll do it for you. Mine will, because of my kidney stone history). Since there's not a whole lot more they can do for you at the hospital, this saves some money.

And, for the record, kidney stone pain, is WAY WORSE than childbirth! Honestly! If you can handle a kidney stone, you are one tough woman!

Since you are feeling so much better, I'd speculate that you did pass the stone. Be thankful for that! Again, I'm sorry, but welcome to our club!

Well, the reception started out nicely. I went early to my SIL's house (where the reception was) to help set up. We had a great chat, and really enjoyed ourselves. At about 6:00, we started the chocolate fountains, and began cutting up apples, bananas, etc. We also had bite size rice crispy treats, pretzel sticks, graham cracker sticks, cinnamon bears, brownie bits and strawberries for dipping.

Guests started showing up and it was really nice. MIL did show up (without her current husband). She spoke only when it was necessary, and then left very early. Oh well. At least she wasn't nasty.

After the reception, all of Alan's siblings stayed to help clean up, and we discussed the situation. Nothing new came out of it, but it was really cathartic for everyone to talk it all through.

It's a chilly day here, so I made my pot roast, Alan is making sticky rice, and we'll also have green beans for dinner. After dinner, we're going to visit cemeteries in our area to lay flowers on Alan's grandparent's graves, his father's grave, my aunt's grave, and our niece Carrisa's grave. It should be a nice activity. We'll wash and clean off the headstones, and make it a nice family day. When we get home, we'll have brownies and ice cream while we watch a movie. Not sure what we'll watch, but I'm hoping for POC3. We'll see.

I won't be around tomorrow, as we are leaving very early in the morning to drive 2 hours north to the cemetery where my grandparents are buried. We'll take care of the graves, and then meet up with our best friends and their kids. Their kids and our kids will play together while Bryce, Peggy, Alan and I go out for the rest of the day. It's mine and Alan's 18th anniversary, so Bryce and Peggy want to make it special. It should be fun!

I'll check in when we get back. Not to mention later on today!

Elin sorry to hear about Bob's mom  Hope you have a great weekend!

Anne Marie what a great memory :goodvibes I have to admit I was giggling about the sock myself :upsidedow

Vicki nice picture, thanks for sharing!

Tammi sounds like you all had a wonderful day! Glad you were able to meet up with Robyn.

Robyn hope Lucy is feeling better :wizard:

thanks for the dittoable post:goodvibes

I sat through it once and made it. I figure I could handle it again. I've had real life encounters in the last couple of years that have helped me get a little more of a handle on it. It isn't an all consuming, body shaking fright any more.
