I just received an e-mail from a friend of mine that I haven't seen since Katrina hit.
I believe I've told you about Donna's story before,
Donna and I worked together before Katrina destroyed our place of employment, she is one of the kindest people you ever want to meet.
Not long after we started working together her Mom, who was hardly ever sick, got what they thought was the flu and passed away unexpectedly. The following year a few weeks before Christmas, her husband Micheal was working in Gretna, LA when he was murdered, he was beaten to death with a hammer and his body set on fire. The police told her that they would probably never find the person responsible.
Michael was great at starting projects at home, he just had a problem finishing them. There house was an older one, and with all the unfinished projects it was in very bad shape. After Michaels murder, Donna pulled herself together as best she could, and with some of his life insurance money
she had the house redone. She took me by to see it one day at lunch and it looked like a new place, there were only a few small projects left to be completed.
This house was in Bay St. Louis, MS, a town adjacent to Waveland, MS, which contrary to what most people think is where Katrina came ashore, her home was destroyed. We were told that Donna had stayed in the house and did not make it, and that someone had seen her body in one of the makeshift morges in town. I was devastated, as I knew that if she didn't make it neither did her son, he would NEVER had left without his Mom. Thank goodness we later found out that she had left and was fine, of course she had lost everything that she didn't take with her.
After almost 6 years they have issued a warrant for the person they suspect of the murder, so please add Donna to your prayers as she goes through everything that now lies ahead.
