DDA Chapter 7

I just received an e-mail from a friend of mine that I haven't seen since Katrina hit.

I believe I've told you about Donna's story before,

Donna and I worked together before Katrina destroyed our place of employment, she is one of the kindest people you ever want to meet.

Not long after we started working together her Mom, who was hardly ever sick, got what they thought was the flu and passed away unexpectedly. The following year a few weeks before Christmas, her husband Micheal was working in Gretna, LA when he was murdered, he was beaten to death with a hammer and his body set on fire. The police told her that they would probably never find the person responsible.

Michael was great at starting projects at home, he just had a problem finishing them. There house was an older one, and with all the unfinished projects it was in very bad shape. After Michaels murder, Donna pulled herself together as best she could, and with some of his life insurance money
she had the house redone. She took me by to see it one day at lunch and it looked like a new place, there were only a few small projects left to be completed.

This house was in Bay St. Louis, MS, a town adjacent to Waveland, MS, which contrary to what most people think is where Katrina came ashore, her home was destroyed. We were told that Donna had stayed in the house and did not make it, and that someone had seen her body in one of the makeshift morges in town. I was devastated, as I knew that if she didn't make it neither did her son, he would NEVER had left without his Mom. Thank goodness we later found out that she had left and was fine, of course she had lost everything that she didn't take with her.

After almost 6 years they have issued a warrant for the person they suspect of the murder, so please add Donna to your prayers as she goes through everything that now lies ahead.

though it does make it a little more difficult for us girls who have a ton more to hide. I hate the "skirt" that is most plus size options...I have dang good looking legs and I want to show them off!!:lmao: The rest?? :confused3 how about a short sleeved shirt guaranteed not to ride up and show the miles of stretch marks I have??:thumbsup2

I am not worried about the ride up factor. They are just not long enough to begin with.;) I do not wear the skirt style they are not practical and find me really odd. I used to have luck finding plus size bottoms at JC Penney outlet that were skirtless. So I imagine JC Penney probably carries them. Walmart also tends to have them. Or at least around here. As when I was not looking for them last spring/summer that was all I could find. But when I needed them I could not find them.

We made it a point to go to the Comedy Club every trip when Kristin was in middle and high school She was on her HS Improv team and thought about going into comedy for a while. It is very family friendly in the earlier shows.

Went to The Adventurer's Club once and didn't "get it" at all. :confused3 But I don't know that it is as "G" rated.

A great place for Improv in the Orlando area is SAK comedy Lab. Wayne Brady got his start in comedy there, as well as several other famous people. They have great classes, and shows with all levels of performers. Most of the shows are very family friendly. If they start getting inappropriate they must wear the SCUM box on their head. It is in downtown Orlando.

It is tons of fun and I highly recommend it. I know it is not Disney but still tons of fun for the whole family.

I'm so glad that she may finally get some closure on a rough time in her life. Many prayers for her and her family.

Just a quick pop in before bed to thank you all for the good wishes tonight. Everything went really well. Terra played so nicely (even with the baby! ;) ) and is excited to go back on Monday. To borrow Elizabeth's lingo, Momboss is sending me the updated lists she has for the current nanny tomorrow so that I can be looking at them and getting a feel for the full scope of things. She'll also be home with us for the first day or two just to help with the transition. I have a much more calm feeling about things after tonight, which is good.

I'll be hanging on the computer a lot tomorrow so hopefully I'll be able to post more often then. I've got to finish the plans for our friend's trip, price out my two options and make that decision, and update my job list and routine sheets to fit my new schedule.

Oh and I found a good way to relax earlier...Epcot music. I put my Mp3 player on to distract me from the unhappy task of digging in boxes for a few things Terra wanted out. Several Epcot background songs came one and it's amazing how much better I felt with that soothing music going. :cloud9:

It's wonderful that they finally know who did it. But poor Donna has to live it all over again. :wizard: for her.

It sounds like it's going to be a wonderful job for you, Tia. Congrats.

Well, I was right. About midnight there were some extremely loud cracks of thunder, the kind you here when lightening hits something. Both kids ended up in my room, frightened. Then around 3AM they suspect what was a tornado tore through a subdivision about 5 or 6 miles from here. I haven't heard of any injuries but homes were destroyed and they have 50-60 people in shelter at the middle school, until other arrangements can be made.

I guess I had best get to sleep. I'm guessing that I will be awake in a few hours as severe thunderstorms roll through our area.

 I would say we dodged the bullet last night, Tammi! The damage in the England Run looks pretty extensive. I am glad you and the kids are OK.

Bob called this morning to see if we were okay. Evidently they were reporting it on the news but didn't name the subdivision. I stayed up until 11 tracking the tornado warning on the news, and it seemed like it had died down. I guess it fired up again.

I need to get it in gear and go have muffins with the kiddos. Have a great morning everyone.

I hope this process moves very quickly for your friend, Debbie. She deserves a break!

Thanks, Becky!

Sounds like a great start for your new job, Tia. Best of luck!

Have you downloaded Epcot background music for your MP3 player? I love it... probably my favorite music to listen to.

I need to get a move on here too. I am headed to Richmond to bring a load home from college. Bob and I will go back tomorrow morning and bring the rest of the stuff home (along with Kristin). I am hoping the rains hold off while we need to load things into the car. Talk to you all later!
