DDA Chapter 6

I've been really tempted to buy myself a Disney messenger bag. I've been reading the thread with pictures of them. I really have to stop. However, I didn't like the messenger bag that I used this last trip. It was kind of heavy and I wasn't carrying as much as I'll end up carrying in June (due to the hot weather).

I was a total bonehead today. I brought Colby to school at the regular time only to find that we were the only ones there. The teachers were there, but no kids. The head teacher came out and gently reminded me that today was open house day from 12 - 1 PM so I was 1/2 hour early. He was really nice and let Colby stay then. He thought it would be good for the high school kids to have a little break in time with only on kid :goodvibes So I headed off grocery shopping feeling really stupid. :headache: While I was out Chris called to tell me that Toyota's incentived are out for April and the Truck he wants has a 0% apr for 60 months. That is EXACTLY the deal we were hoping for, but that just puts more pressure on to get the house done and the loan papers signed before the deal ends. He also needs to sell his current truck.

Once home I get 1/2 a message from the school and I all could make out was bus incident this morning that had been dealt with without any injuries :confused3 So I call the school to find out the whole deal. Turns out a student on my kids bus was found with a weapon. Now I don't know what kind of weapon or how they dealt with it as they wouldn't give me that info. The lady at the school stressed that it had been taken care of. My next question was what's to stop it from happening again to which I get the "well that's the world we live in" comment. That isn't acceptable and I think I may be further questioning it.

Deb - That doesn't sound good! I guess I never really thought about it before, but there isn't a way to keep kids from bringing weapons on the bus. Scary! :scared1:
I'm glad Colby was able to stay at school early and get some extra attention! I bet he enjoyed that! :goodvibes

Tia - DS is probably on the fence with characters. We have been to CP so many times he would be happy for them to leave him alone.:rotfl: The only time he will stand in line at the parks is if we find a character he has never seen before. We really like buffets, so we just figure the characters are largely a part of the buffet experience. :confused3

I would want to know more too, Deb.

Janet - Yay for documents!!

I guess I need to figure out what I am going to do about August airfare for DH. All along we had been saying he could come home on a different flight than DS and me, but now that's not a good idea. If there is any sort of emergency with my mom then I could potentially be leaving WDW by myself, which would mean DH and DS would HAVE to be on the same flight to go home. I mentioned to DH this morning that we might have to consider cutting some days off of the trip, but he doesn't want to think about that right now. I don't want to do that because we would miss getting to see most of the DDAers, but I also don't want to be paying hundreds of dollars to change plane tickets. Crud. I guess I'll see what my mom finds out tomorrow and try to make some more decisions then.

I woke my kids up this morning and told them that school was canceled.
 I think my kids would go bizerk if I told them that & it wasn't true! I'd have a mutiny on my hands!:lmao:

On that note too, I'm trying to decide whether or not to recommend a character meal to our friends. This is their first WDW trip ever. The girls are 12 and 14 or 15. I think I will suggest one for the experience. What do you all think and which one should I go for? They may only have 4-5 in the parks though I'm going to talk to them about maybe making it more depending on what their reasoning was.
I gree, you should see if they want to do character meals. If so I would suggest Chf Mickey's since that appeals to all ages, and the food is good.

I received my Disney documents today :woohoo: :cool1: :dance3: :yay:
Horray!!!:woohoo:

I would not find that an acceptable answer either Deb. Whether or not that it was "taken care of" is not the matter. It is how this will be handled going forward & what they are doing to protect your kids while in transit to school.

Well, I just finished dinner. It was a strange night.

During my final private lesson at 8:30, my HS student kept looking over my shoulder out the windows toward his Mom's car. I finally asked what was going on and he said he was a little worried about his Mom since that guy had been talking to her for about 15 minutes. I suggested that he call her on his cell phone and see if she was OK. She did not answer. So I called her and also received no answer. They guy was acting very oddly but finally left and then the Mom moved her car. I locked Nick in the studio to see if she was OK. Turns out she was calling 911! This guy, who lives over one of the cafe's downtown was planning to commit suicide. I went back into the studio and got Nick and sent him home with his Mom. I figured they had her cell phone number if they needed to contact her again. After 15 minutes of waiting for anyone at all to come, I decided to come on home. There was no one else around and I was concerned for my own welfare. I am hoping someone came and helped this poor man.

How scary!

by jove...I think Jim finally gets it...I got in the car and explained what happened at work today and Jim went "Wow, you are being disrespected there." Up until today he had rose colored glasses on and somehow made me feel like I was overreacting. :headache:

Hooray that he's finally seen the light. There's nothing worse than having your husband belittle what you are going through. Alan used to do that when I taught. Then, he was a substitute for me for a couple of weeks, and became a much more sympathetic husband after that!

sounds like it's been a topsy turvy day Deb and I am sorry:hug:

However, I didn't like the messenger bag that I used this last trip. It was kind of heavy and I wasn't carrying as much as I'll end up carrying in June (due to the hot weather).

I was looking at the buxton messenger bag that I've seen advertised on TV. It looks like it holds a ton of stuff in a compact space, but it is leather and would be so hot in Florida in the summer

I decided to pick the kids up myself today as that secretary (or whoever she was) had really angered me. I spoke to one of the other Mom's when I got there and she said that the message did say that it was a knife, not good, but much better than a gun. When Hunter came out I asked him about the bus incident and he gave me a clueless look. Then I said the kid with a knife and he knew what I was taking about, but obviously wasn't concerned. He said that a first grader had brought an army knife and was showing it off. Apparently he wasn't threatening anyone, just a show and tell type of thing. Someone told the bus driver and he pulled over and took the knife. The kids did say that he stabbed the back of the seat in front of him several times and there were kids in the seat, but he wasnt' trying to stab throught the seat :confused3 I ended up walking in and talking to the principal about how my phone call had left me with questions and a very poor response about future protection. He was very nice and assured me that the lady on the phone would be spoken to and given some better phone skills. I feel much better now.

I really want a bag that is easy to open up for security (so not lots of zipper pockets that you can't see through). I also want a messenger bag that I can wear over my shoulder. I've stopped wearing my fanny pack. I don't like it in the photopass pictures and you know how I like my photopass pictures. The bag I took in March worked out ok. However it was heavy and I didn't like the size. And it was boring black!

Cassidy and I saw that and were comtemplating it also!!

That looks like a neat bag but I wouldn't want it for Disney. I may consider it for general use though. Too many pockets/compartments to open for security. I like to have just a couple of zippers to undo. It gets me through so much faster.

You are right about the compartments....I will probably stick with my Vera Bradley backpack....holds a ton and easy to carry.

I bought a little 9 West backpack at the Macy's that went out of business. I might take it with me this weekend to see if I like it. My Adidas one is falling apart, and that is what I usually use in the parks. I haven't seen another one like it. The small backpacks I have seen lately have pictures on them, and none of them are pictures that I like! :rotfl: Hopefully that 9 West one will work.

I also ended up getting a full size Crocs backpack to take on the plane to WDW, but I won't bring a regular purse. I will switch from the big backpack to the little one when we get to the hotel.
