DDA Chapter 3

So we went to get DS and as I am sitting there in the carpool my phone rings. The lady identifies herself as being from the school, but she isn't one of DS's teachers. So I start to panic. :scared1: I am thinking he is either injured or ill, but at least I am RIGHT THERE.

Then she proceeds to tell me he is one of the Science Fair winners so we need to make sure to attend the ceremony tomorrow night!
I hate Science Fair, but it is gooooood to win!;) Heh heh.

I told her he is in the band so we were planning to be there anyway. :goodvibes

Congratulations to your DS!

Denise, I'm so sorry you had to cancel your trip again! :sad1: :grouphug: I hope you all are feeling better soon.

Hey, it's me! I'm getting close!

Welcome home Jen! How was Tampa?

Well, I'm ready for the weekend!

Colgate is sponsoring a new play area for one CHOA hospital, and I would love you to vote. Many of you know- CHOA is a very special place in our hearts since Rees has spent many weeks/months of his life in and out of CHOA. Click on this link

http://www.colgate.com/app/Colgate/US/Corp/CommunityPrograms/show-the-love.cvsp

-Then click on Atlanta and find Children’s Hospital of Atlanta at Hugh Spalding! This is latest hospital to be added to CHOA and could really use some new equipment. I think this is awesome that Colgate is doing this. Trust me- you never know when you might need CHOA! We want to give our kids the best.

What a cool idea. I voted and hope CHOA does well!

It's really great to see you posting!

I prefer my food not to touch but am getting better as the years go by. I have even been known to order the mashed potato bowl at KFC.

I don't eat off my kids plates either. Yuck! I will share with Chuck. I really didn't like sharing a glass with them though when they were little, I got used to that.

Aack! I can't hardly handle my foods touching still, let alone anything mixed all together! :scared: :rotfl:

The kids have accepted we're not at Disney this week much better than I anticipated. Rees, BK, and I all 3 tested positive for flu (and we had the shots). It's really bad here now as the flu strain we had wasn't in the shot this year. We have rescheduled for April 26-May 3. Hopefully, the P&PP will still be going on then too.[/QUOTE]

We've had some real struggles in the midwest, too, with strains that weren't covered in the vaccine. I hope you all are feeling better soon!

Thanks, Jen. Hopefully, soon I'll FINALLY get to show them our brick in front of the MK. It's been tough not to spill the beans.

I bet! I hope April comes before you know it!

Let me introduce my new great nephew, he was born January 29th.

Congratulations! Beautiful family, and beautiful LO!

FREE FOOD! NO TRASHCAN INVOLVED!!

Remember that UPS box nobody was home to sign for on Friday? They just brought it back. It is full of....

CHIPS!:rotfl2: Signature required for a box full of CHIPS!:lmao:
And a little packet of "coupons" that aren't really coupons at all. It is a slip of paper that says to go to www.flatearth.com and print your coupon for a free bag. DH says the cheddar and the tomato ones are nice. The only ones I have tasted are the peach/mango and they are weird. They have powder on them like Cheetos, but it is fruity. So rush out and get your free bag, then be sure to go back later and BUY some like good little consumers. ;)

We actually tried those in a market research study! Kyle enjoyed the tomato ones, but I wasn't a big fan of either. Still, free food is cool! :goodvibes

Elizabeth, was the locker totally cleaned out? Though, it typically happens at the end of the year, not semester changes, sometimes custodians are instructed to cut off locks and clean out lockers. Regardless, I'm sorry about the lost supplies!

DH said all that was left was the empty box from the colored pencils. They went and found an administrator who said the hall where his locker is happens to be the "unload" area for the buses. That hall is jammed with kids waiting to go through the metal detector so they have plenty of time to test all the locks and rifle through the contents of any locker that opens. DS isn't good with combo locks - they befuddle him. So it probably wasn't locked properly. To add insult to injury we have to PAY to replace the damn lock! :headache:

So they offered to issue him a locker in an area more accessible to him so he can actually use it, but OF COURSE DS doesn't want that. He wants no locker at all. His spine is going to be destroyed before he gets out of middle school.

They gave him a letter today saying that he has placed in the Science Fair, so he knows. He doesn't know WHICH place, and I don't know either. DH says the letter says we are responsible for getting the project to the district competition at the Math/Science magnet school if he places 1st or 2nd. The district judging is SATURDAY, so nothing like short notice! :sad2: I don't even know where the magnet school is! Maybe he will place 3rd. :rolleyes1

He has a whomping amount of Social Studies homework, which will be tricky to complete since he has to eat dinner and be back at school by 6 PM. He has math homework and reading to do, too. They had a pep rally yesterday so he didn't have Social Studies. I wish he would have had class yesterday and had the homework last night - would have made our lives MUCH easier.

You'd think with so many people sharing their latest creative creations (Tammi, Jen, Clare, Becky, Deb, Tom, Debbie, etc.),
I was inspired for about 2 and a half days. The moment has passed and now it just seems like too much work.

How was your weekend in Tampa?

It was ok. The event was better than I anticipated overall, as in less overwhelming/boring, but it was still ABSOLUTELY not worth traveling for and giving up a weekend for. I'm totally burnt out at work, and went straight back to 10-12 hour days, multiple state surveys, etc. I can't wait to be done with this particular chapter of my work life! Thanks for asking, though! :rotfl:

Oh, my. Even getting directions from Mapquest I STILL don't know how to get to that school!:scared: Maybe if we have to take his project I can get DH to do it Friday. He said there are set-up hours Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

Elizabeth sorry to hear ds's art supplies were stolen :sad2:

Night, everyone! I've got to go figure out my new alarm clock since my old one died! Wish me luck!

Too funny that you posted this! I got a new alarm clock on Black Friday (because my old one, while it still worked, had numbers that were ENTIRELY too bright and would keep me up, even on the dim setting). I waited until about 3 weeks ago to hook up the new one. It's really, really cool, but I worried for about 2 weeks about whether or not it was going to wake me up. I had gotten over it, but then Kyle called while I was in Tampa, freaking out trying to figure out if it was set or not! :rotfl:

Required PE is about the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. I HATED PE in high school. I really, really hated it and I refused to even try to participate.

Right now it is an elective for DS, which he did NOT elect. I think that guarantees that the kids who WANT to be in PE will be there, and it spares everyone else. I am not sure if it will stay that way as he progresses through middle & high school, though. It seems like I heard some sort of proposal to make it mandatory but I don't know what happened with that.

We had to have very little PE, i think maybe 2 semesters. We had to have health more frequently, but most of our "extra" credits (required by the school but not by the state regs) were math, science, etc. I think the school realized PE wasn't going to get us very far, also! ;)

Good morning, DDA! Well, that cool front came through it seems. Guess I had better go turn the heat back on as its starting to get a little cool in the house.

I really need to get some stuff done today, but I am feeling terrible lazy. Maybe I'll do a little and then plunk myself back down here to design the things for Terra's party. She has changed it to a "Toy Story" theme instead of "Woody and Buzz." Apparently, a big distinction to her thinking. It does mean that I have a little more leeway in the games, cake, etc. Gotta get planning on that!

Toy Story sounds like a GREAT party theme! Have fun planning it, and be sure and show us pictures of the final event!

We had some local commercials thrown in the mix this year - first time I've ever noticed them before! Maybe that ad appeared during one of those time slots?

I think I have yet to see a presidential ad in Texas! (It's been nice!)

I haven't seen a single one either, which is such a relief. I'm sure we'll get our fill soon enough, though, unfortunately!

Um, yeah. I think we all know how THAT request turned out! :rolleyes1 :headache:

Bummer! I was anxiously awaiting your answer to Tammi's question. Not that I can use a code any time soon, but at least it would be an answer for some people, and a great bit of knowledge! I suppose we all knew it wouldn't work like that, but it was worth trying!

Checking in...

Not sure when I'll be able to check back in with you guys.

I told a couple of you on this thread last week that I believed I was pregnant....which I am.

Unfortunately, it has turned out to what doctors believe is an ectopic pregnancy. So joy has turned into sadness/fear very quickly in this household. Not really sure what the future holds right now....I am on daily monitoring...if levels do not decrease on their own I am facing possible surgery maybe even emergency surgery if the pain persists. As awful as it sounds, the better thing would be to have have a natural miscarriage......and unless something resolves very quickly, there will be no Disney trip.

Bill is completely out of his mind right now....after the doctor pumped him full of the ectopic risks (mainly the death one) he has been hovering all over me.

I did instruct him to call Marti & Marci should something happen.

Well, there you have it.

I hope they are able to get an u/s to rule out the ectopic or figure out where to go from here. I will pray for peace for you and Bill.

Thunder snow, we had it the other day. Really freaky!

That's too strange. As I kept seeing a few more posts, I figured it wasn't a typo. I would love to see a lightning+snow storm! How cool!

Thank you. Yes I did. I'm glad I got that email before I placed the order!

Phew! I was worried about even mentioning it, because I knew there were codes available just the other day! :rotfl: I have to say, mypublisher is now 5 for 5 on gorgeous books. The cruise one came while I was in Tampa, and it's breathtaking! (The print, not the scrapping. I'm more modest than that ;)). I opted for a book jacket that has a full-bleed design of my cover, and I can't stop looking at it when I pass by. They do such a phenomenal job!

I'M DONE! YOU ALL TALK TOO MUCH! :rotfl:

And with that, unfortunately, I have very much overstayed my time on the computer. Of course, right? So I can come back to another 50 pages tomorrow? ;)

I'm going to try and check in after dinner, but I REALLY have to at least pick up a bit around here. My uterus has been giving me some fits for about a week, plus some dropping BP issues making things more exciting, so I'm pretty much worthless these days. It's all I can do to come home from work and get through the evening (all the while dreading the next day. :rotfl: )

Take care! :grouphug:

The Duo Glide is what we pretty much have to settle for... thankfully it gets good reviews. It's the only double stroller that accepts two newborns (in a travel system), they are all designed for an infant and a toddler sibling. We hated the side-by-sides as well.... the tandems are much easier to drive! :rotfl:

We used the duo glide with our twins. It was wonderful with them as newborns. As they got older and heavier, it was harder to drive. It lasted up until last year, though.

I used the last one I had until the boys were about 2 1/2, then my boss had another baby and we had to get a triple stroller. It was a J. Mason because the Peg Perego wouldn't fit in the trunk of my car. That one had NO leg room for the child in the middle, and it was tricky to steer.

What a day for DS! :headache: It's bad enough about the locker, but to have to pay for the lock too. That's just too much. Poor kid. Maybe 3rd it will be. Give you all a break. Good luck getting everything done tonight. :wizard:

I hope that things settle down for you soon - both on the work front and baby front. Take care of yourself. The house will get picked up some day. ;)

Jennifer - I'm going to play "mom" here! You get off your feet NOW! Don't mess around. It's very important for you to take it easy right now. Nothing is as important as those babies you are carrying. Take it from me, the house will still be there after the babies are born, and you don't need to be worrying about it.

Now, young lady, you go lie down for a while and RELAX. Watch a chick flick, read a book, take a nap, just get off your feet for a while. Do it now before I jump on a plane and come out there for the next few months and make sure you are taking care of yourself!!!!!

Kristine,

So sorry to hear this has happened. Hope things improve for you.

I wish you lived closer I would give you mine-even if just for your parents as a backup. I would love to find a good home for it. DH said he would look into donating it to a woman's shelter.

That is CRAZY!:scared: Good luck tonight!

 Working 10 to 12 hours days while growing 2 babies is a lot!

My new stroller came via UPS today and I love it! It feels several pounds lighter than the old stroller-maybe the old one has a few pounds of dirt on it? The seat is about 1/2 wider, 1" deeper and 1" taller. I think Emma will like the mesh seat in the heat of FL and the rear of the shade also rolls up for circulation. The carry strap is great-seems like it would very easy to get through airport and on/off busses with that. I am so glad I made the purchase!
