DDA Chapter 26

So dad was supposed to have Chemo this morning. Well before they do chemo they always draw blood to check his White cell count. Not sure what that # was. But his Hemaglobin was 3.8 and his Hematocrit was 11.2. So they sent him from the cancer clinic to the ER. For more blood draws which is a type and screen. They are going to give him a transfusion of at least 2 units. Of course with his blood counts so low that explains a lot of his symptoms the past week.

Tmmi - I will head over to facebook to look! Now I don't feel so stupid. :rotfl:

I am sorry you had to switch daycare providers. I know you have been agonizing over that.

That is an interesting thought. I'm sure that they must be used to it, though.

Miles supply list for school includes a bottle of non-alcohol based hand sanitizer for art. So far, we haven't located any. I guess they can't have the alcohol-based one because kids ingest it for the alcohol. Really?!? I know the dangers of preschoolers licking it off their hands not knowing about the alcohol, since I work with preschoolers. I never would have thought to worry about 6th graders doing it on purpose, though. Teachers have such different things to worry about these days.

Our Supercenter carries this brand - and then can buy refills in gallon jugs to refill when needed. Not sure if yours might, but it's worth a shot!

If you do I would love it...we have one but it doesn't have a cover and I want to make sure it's as protected as it can be.

In all of the supply lists it states pen drive but than gives the explanation and it's a usb/flash drive description:confused3 I figure it's just another to confuse us. :rotfl:

I'll look around. I know that my kids have won them before at different events, so I'm pretty sure there is an extra one around here.

actually it's probably more likely for kids like Abi...the smell of rubbing alcohol is one of her allergy triggers...in fact it's one of the worst ones for her. But, I agree, teachers have to worry about so much more and different things.

That could be, but I would think that they would have to worry about allergies sensitivities to the alcohol-free ones, too. I don't know why they can't let them wash their hands instead of requiring the hand sanitizer. They are 11-year olds. They should be able to wash their hands quickly and orderly. It's not like a bunch of two year olds.

pixiedust: for your dad.

mom just called, they are admitting dad to the hospital and are going to do a scope to make sure he is not having some bleeding they dont know about. Or it could have been caused by the chemo.

Hi everyone!

Deb - congrats on the new camper. Looks great!

Bernadette - I love the Mickey shaped fruit! I hope your pin removal goes smoothly.

Elizabeth - it sounds like you made the right choice for DS. Glad to hear that he is enjoying it.

Stephanie - I can't imagine why you would be spending so much time on the cruise board. ;)

Theresa - I'm so sorry to hear about your great uncle.

Elin - I posted the picture last night on FB. Sorry to make you wade through so many DIS posts.

I'm glad to hear that all the kids are settling in to the new school year. We still have the rest of this week to enjoy summer.

So as most of you know I bought a new car last night, a Toyota Highlander. I've been waffling between that, the Mazda cx9 and the Kia Sorento. Each had their own pros/cons, but after much thought/research the Highlander won out. I love it! I'm suffering from tremendous anxiety over it though. I put a huge down payment to keep the monthly payments down, so that wiped out 2/3s of my savings. I haven't had to deal with a car payment for 10 years, so I guess I'm suffering from sticker shock.

I'm also switching the kids' daycare to cut costs. We visited the new one last week and they really seemed to like it. It's nice. They will know kids from school there. I'm the one dealing with the emotional issues of leaving where they have been for the past 5 years. They have been so good to us and have done a wonderful job with my kids. It's almost as if I'm going through a break-up. So lots of changes that I'm adapting to.

Change is hard. We're feeling it here too. I think you'll be happy with the Highlander. My mother has one and she is very happy with hers.

 Yesterday it sounded like he was doing so well  I hope they figure it out quickly.

Nick is home. I think it went okay though I've heard boring a couple of times. He already has homework. I also had to sign a form allowing him to bring home a computerized baby. He gets to be a Daddy sometime soon:rolleyes: I think it is for a weekend and he hasn't been assigned a date yet.

I'm actively looking for a job which has been the plan for a long time. Obviously we need to pay for the new camper and I feel like it is the right time for me to go back to work full time. At the same time I feel like I should be available for the kids every second. Nick had me home for almost 15 years and Colby gets less than 8. The reality is that he doesn't care it is just me working through it. Hopefully I'll find something soon then I can stop torturing myself about it.

he had a good report from the Dr on Friday. But he has been feeling dizzy occasionally and headache and blurry vision. but those could also be side effects of the chemo he is taking.

Theresa, I saw one in the Staples ad for $8.

Hope he is better soon!

Beth, I saw your pics on FB. :goodvibes

Deb, glad Nick's day went OK. I have had to sign a boat load of forms, but "computerized baby" wasn't one of them! :rotfl2:

I need to go online and order a yearbook. The deadline to order is November, but they keep increasing in price the longer you wait.

Wow Becky 2 1/2 gallons of fluid :scared1: That was huge. I'm glad that your feeling better and that it was not cancerous.

It was huge and I knew it was before the surgery. They couldn't believe I was not having any other symptoms besides random on and off pain in my upper abdomen.

My fears going in to surgery was they were not going to be able to do it with laparoscopy, which would have meant being sliced basically the whole length of the cyst and that they were going to need to remove all of my reproductive organs. Thankfully they were able to do the surgery with 5 small incisions and only needed to remove the left ovary and tube. Only 1 of the incisions had stitches the rest are just Dermabond. Technology is amazing and I had a great doctor. Their office has called me every day since the surgery except Sunday. I will need to have follow up ultrasounds at least yearly, as there is a chance of the same thing happening on the other side. They also discovered I have endometriosis. My follow up appointment is on September 8th.

I just wish I could sleep better. I normally sleep on my side, but I cannot do that as my stomach muscles aren't strong enough. I drove for the first time today it wasn't bad, but there is no way I could have driven the 70 miles round trip to and from work.

Thanks for the pic of the USB Monorail Bernadette. Good luck with the pin removal.

Elizabeth- I am glad that he is liking the new school. I hope he can figure out ways to get organized that work for him.

Jennifer- I hope your Dad starts to improve.

Deb- Good Luck with the job search

I have 16 days until I fly out for Barcelona. I am gonna need all of those days to get back the strength and stamina for this trip. I am feeling alright but their is no way I could get on a plane today and fly to Spain.

DS LOVES his school. LOVES it. But we are having some epic battles over homework and staying organized. He has 9 different courses so there is A LOT going on. He hasn't figured out that he HAS TO do things as they are assigned instead of putting them off until they are due. He was mad that I made him finish an essay today that is due Tuesday. I am strongly encouraging him to use his planner and write down EVERYTHING, because even though I verbally go class by class with him every day he still forgets things.

He seems OK riding the bus. He likes most of his teachers (the Costume instructor is VERY stern and strict, the Math teacher is dull, the Geography teacher mumbles, the others are fine). I think he may join the Film Club, and he is already talking about going to a dance at school next month. He NEVER wanted to go to a dance in middle school. He is definitely in his element. He has made a few new friends. I am sure he will get to know a lot more kids in the next few weeks. Since they are on an A/B schedule he has only been to his A classes 3 times and his B classes twice.

I'm so glad that he is liking his school!!!

Katie is on an A/B schedule, and I found that having 2 backpacks really helps her stay organized. We have an A day, and a B day. She also has to write EVERYTHING in her planner, and then I have to stay on top of her. She doesn't understand why it's in her best interest to finish an algebra assignment on the day she actually had the instruction, instead of waiting a day so the instructions can ooze out of her ears! Luckily, Alan backs me up, and so far, so good!

Keep on him, Mom! You're doing well!!!
