Daniel spent yesterday reading in bed. He finished Kingdom Keepers in a few hours & loved it. Now he wants 2 & 3. :)

Good morning, DDA!

Glynis - Good luck with your meeting tonight. Sounds like an ambitious night, but should be fun!

Anne Marie - Glad the kids are feeling better.

Debbie - Sorry that PT was rough. It will be worth it in the end!

It will take a while to bbq burgers and dogs on the grill so I'm sure the kids will have plenty of time to swim. I've also requested a villa directly across the street from the pool entrance. Nick is 14 and Janet's got at least one that is older so I'm sure the kids can hit the pool as a group even if the adults hang back.

Yep, Garrett is 16 :thumbsup2

Update on dad. For those of you who may not have seen it on facebook. On 5/20/10 dad pulled his Endotrach tube out, along with his feeding tube. He was on a face mask for a day and has been on Nasal canula Oxygen since. On Sat. 5/22 he was moved from ICU to IMC. They found a small hole between his trachea and his espophagus on Friday and aparantely he was holding his breath while swallowing. So they had to put the feeding tube back in. They repeated the test today and he passed and aparently the hole closed by him doing the excersise the Speech therapist wanted him to do. So they took the feeding tube out.

:wizard::wizard:How are his spirits?

Tammi are you already on your cruise on July 22nd?

Beth will your family be joining us for the bbq? I can submit fingerprint tests if it makes your family feel safer;)

Jennifer - It sounds like your dad is slowly improving. That's good!

Anne Marie - yay for healthy kids!

Deb - We are back in VA on July 22. Cruise is 11-18th then over to WDW until the 20th.

I've booked our December trip (15th-23rd) at BWV. I was able to get all but one night. I'm also thinking of going over to US for 2 days (1 night).

Our school district is looking at implementing a new school year calendar for 2011/12. There are 2 options:

Option A - a 1 week before Labor Day start, one week off at Christmas, Spring break the week BEFORE Easter (it is currently the week after). The first semester ends mid Jan (as it does currently).

Option B - a 3 week before LD start, 2 weeks off at Christmas, spring break in March (way before Easter), last day of school would be Memorial Day. The first semester would end before Christmas break.

I'm surprised to say I'm warming up to option B. I like the fact that spring break is early (better travel opportunities). Right now it doesn't matter much for my kids, but the fact that the semester is over before Christmas break is huge I think. Why have the time off and then have to go back for another week or 2 and then take exams?

I've been reading all the comments that parents are posting online. I can't get over the fact that families actually think that the school system should adopt a calendar that fits around THEIR summer vacation plans. Shouldn't you plan your vacation around the school calendar? Yes, it would cause a hardship for families that like to vacation at the end of August for the cheaper rates, but lets face it, life is about adapting and overcoming. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, changes.

I had a fantastic trip. I got back last night. None of the problems or issues of my last trip. My room at Pop in the 80's section had just been refurbed and they were still redoing the rooms in the building I was in. They were painting on stilts on the lowest level the 1st days but by the end they were done doing those rooms. But I came home to the issue of my car not being done. I was having the damaged fender replaced from when my Dad hit my car. The new was damaged, so it wasn't done and still isn't.

The parks were all very busy. I knew DHS would be because of Star Wars weekend but the other parks were as well. They were parking people going to DHS at EPCOT and then busing people back and forth but they got free parking then. Magic Kingdom was extremely busy yesterday. I was glad I had stayed out til 2am as I got to ride and do things that otherwise had long lines and then got up and went back to MK at 9am.

There is lots of construction all over. Lots of things covered in drapes and undercover or behind walls, but still plenty to do.

Debbie- Hope your should heals quickly and the PT stops hurting so bad.

Deb- Could you ask the boys doctor for a handicap pass, they might be able to issue a temporary one for the trip or one for longer term use.

Terry- Hope the vertigo subsides. I wonder if it might be Meniere's Disease. It is an inner ear disorder that causes vertigo, nauseous, and eventually hearing loss. My Dad and several other family members have it.

Elin- I hope your recitals aren't too bad and you get some time to relax.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Our school system implemented B quite awhile ago and I think it's awesome for everybody.

Hi all!!

My mom heads back tomorrow....the last of 20+ family members to leave.

Continuation and than graduation were awesome!!

I did well at both until.....at graduation 2 graduates got a standing ovation as they walked across to get their diplomas because it was the first time they had walked in public (twins both suffering from MS). So proud of the senior class at LHS (we know one of the boys from Jazz Band and his volunteering with a band event)

I am peeling because I didn't take my own advice and put on sunscreen on Friday with 80+ weather.

Everybody is in my thoughts and prayers.

Tammi, we DID have a calendar similar to "B" and it was good. NOW we start the 4th Monday in August (no TX district is allowed to start earlier). We get a week at Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas (but if Christmas is on a Monday the break will START on Christmas), a week in March for Spring Break, and we don't finish until a few days after Memorial Day. The first semester runs over into January. Asinine. DS has to go to school Tue, Wed, Thur next week. 4 hours Tue & Wed, 2 hours Thur. But they give exams so the kids can't skip those days or they fail.

They had posted a proposed calendar that cut Thanksgiving down to 3 days, and they must have done something with another day to get us out by Memorial Day, but that is NOT the calendar they adopted. The kids only have ONE day off between Labor Day and Thanksgiving. One of the districts near us had been starting the first week of August, then they got a week off in October. That would be AWESOME. But, alas, that is no more.

Jennifer, good thoughts for your dad!

Theresa, congrats to Cassidy!

Debbie, hope the shoulder is coming along!

Becky, welcome home!

If they do the 3 week pre LD start they only have Labor Day and Election day off before Thanksgiving, and a few early releases in there too. They only have Thurs and Fri for Tday, which is how it's always been. Christmas break would start on Dec 22 and they would go back on Jan. 9.

Becky - I'm glad your trip was awesome!

Theresa - Congratulations to you and to Cassidy. You did a great job, Mom!

Good morning. :)

I've been trying to add my new ticker, but apparently magical kingdoms dot com is now censored by the Dis.

:rotfl: Thanks for the invitation, but we aren't going to be there quite that early. It sounds like a great time, but I have to work around 5 schedules here (well, really 4, since there is nothing on my schedule that beats being in Disney). As it is, Miles will miss Summer Champs in swimming, and Matthew is having trouble finding a job with them knowing that he'll be gone for those two weeks that close to the time he goes back to school.

I think that there may have been some security issues with that site. I don't remember exactly what I read a month or so ago, though.

Yay for booking the Christmas trip!

Our schools don't go back until after Labor Day, but we aren't finished until the end of June. It would definitely be strange to start before Labor Day, because it's been the Wednesday after Labor Day my whole life, but this time of year, I would love to be almost done.
