DDA Chapter 25

Deb-how's Colby? Joe was vomitting this morning. Poor kid. Better today then a few days from now. He asked me if he could still go to Disney. I have to say I'm not feeling 100% but maybe I'm just feeling empathy for him.

I have a 2pm meeting today. I think I'm going to try to leave after that. Emma has a Girl Scout Meeting today. She's missed the last few being at Disney or sick so she really wants to go today.

I hope Joe passes this quickly.

Colby is home again. He is running a low grade fever, nothing too concerning, but not normal for him. He has a sore throat that goes away with ibuprophen. I took him out to lunch as he missed a pizza party at school today. He ate exactly 3 bites of his pizza. I'm sure that is a combo of his ADHD meds and not feeling well. He seems a bit sluggish too. His first lacrosse game is tonight so I hope he feels up to playing at least a little bit. They only have 5 games so missing one would be a big deal.:wizard:

Goodness there's a lot of illness going around, hopefully everyone will be on the mend soon. We're slowly but surely feeling better here, we both mode it through work yesterday, I had a short day today because of a doctor's appointment but DH is still there. His dad has come down with it now.

As for the appointment it was to finally go over the results of the MRI, it seems there is a bigger problem than he initially thought. Along with the scar tissue (frozen shoulder) I have significant arthritis, to the point that I have some bone on bone where the cartilage is completely gone. He is still going to remove scar tissue, manipulate the arm and also clean out the debris from the arthritis. The goal is to alleviate the pain, and regain as much motion as possible, but he doesn't think I will ever completely get it back. I made it clear again today that I have to be travel ready by July.

I won't know the surgery date until next week, because of my sleep apnea he wants to clear it with the anesthesiologist (sp?) for the surgery to be done at the surgery center, if he doesn't think it's a good idea I will have to go to the hospital to have it done.

Hi Ya'll,

Long post but happy results!!! :goodvibes

After suffering two weeks from Vertigo, I am feeling about 99% better tonight. I had called the Dr. on Monday and he gave me some information to check on the web for some exercises. He also did mention that there is a center that helps with the dizziness and if I wasn't feeling better in a few days, we could consider that. I called back yesterday and my information was given to the center and they called today and I was set up with an appointment for next Wednesday. But I told her that if there was any cancellations to call me and I could make it in since I wasn't working. Well as luck was in my corner, she called back and there was an opening for today. When the therapist started asking me questions and explaining how the inner ear works and the dizziness affects one, I felt such a relief. I was feeling all those symptoms and I knew I was going to be helped. Then we did a few exercises to find out where my problems was. She then had me put these big goggles on and I could not see but there was a little camera inside that could see my eyes. She had me lay down and the world started spinning but I had to keep my eyes open. That was hard. Then she sorta jiggled my head and tapping on a few places. After that, I rested and we did it all again. She feels that she was able to manipulate the crystals and I should be feeing much better. I have to admit that driving home I was already feeling much better. I did take a nap this afternoon cause she did say I would be very sleepy. For the next few days I have to sleep on just my left side and by next Friday, I will go back in and she hopes this visit helped me so I don't need another treatment. :cool1:

Yes I am a little miffed that the Dr didn't mention this sooner even though I know they usually like to treat with medicine first. If I hadn't seen my sisters post to me about manipulations and crystals, I would have not known to ask more questions and get more help.

Ugh Colby is now covered in a head to toe rash with white bumps on his tongue. His groin area is fire red. I'm pretty sure that he has scarlet fever. He has only run a low grade fever which is a bit atypical. I've called the pediatrician on call and am waiting for a return call. They have an hour and it's already been 45 minutes :rolleyes1 I'm glad that I didn't send him to school like he wanted  His fever had broke this afternoon and we let him play in his lacrosse game tonight. Other than having no appetite he says the he feels fine except for the itchy rash.

Both Colby and Hunter's teams got beat tonight. Unfortunately we play the same teams on Monday night.

The Doctor on Call finally called back after I made a second phone call. He insisted that Colby be seen tonight in the ER even though I thought that tomorrow would be fine. So we brought him and sure enough he has scarlet fever. They gave him a dose of penicillan and sent him home with a prescription. I wonder how many thousands of dollars that visit will cost? And we found out that scarlet fever would eventually go away on it's own. Colby was saying that he feels fine other than the rash. Oh well, we know what it is and he is treated.

Debbie - it sounds like you are finally making progress with your shoulder. I sure hope you are ready to go come July. :wizard:

Terry - How are you today? Hopefully you have even more relief today.

Deb - poor Colby. :wizard: that the meds take away the itch soon. Will your ER visit not be covered under insurance?

/
Deb - I am glad you got a diagnosis for Colby and hope the meds kick in quickly!

Debbie - You poor thing. Sounds like a long bout of rehab before July. I hope you can be relativley pain-free by then!!

Terry - I don't know about crystals and manipulations, but I am certainly glad you got some relief!

Jen - did you get any word yesterday?

I hope Colby is feeling better. Scarlet fever will eventually go away on it's own, but is from strep, and it could damage the heart if not treated.

Hello, old friends! :goodvibes: I've heard from a few of you recently and wanted to pop in and say hello, and provide a bit of an update on our family. Elise and Avery are rotten about 85% of the time, so I simply don't spend much time online these days unless it's something I can do remotely like email or facebook. It's too dangerous to be on the computer for any length of time :rotfl: (No, but seriously - they keep me busy, and when they aren't I'm keeping all three of us busy running around!)

Somehow, the girls will be turning two already in about 6 weeks. I don't really approve of this, but have little say in the matter  They're still little peanuts, but with a shrimpy mama I'm not surprised. They're just about smarter than I am though, and they never, EVER stop talking. They're obsessed with all things Disney (:confused3). They're day-time potty trained. They're mean as snot or as sweet as can be, with no in-between. (I kind of hate this age, truth be told... but sure do love them!). I think that about sums it up! :cutie::cutie:

I'm part of the leadership/worship teams at our new church and LOVE it. The crowd is younger and passionate about what they do, the amount of musical talent there blows my mind, and our family has been able to get involved and grow there in a year more than we ever did elsewhere. I am also still serving on the board of our 200-family mothers of twins club, but am taking a step back from VP to Community Service Something or Other (clearly not the official title ;)) this summer, mainly because I'd rather have another baby in the next year (God-willing) than, well, anything else. :)

Kyle is so close to the end of his residency that we can practically taste it. His last day is June 29th, though true to form he has the worst possible shift that day and will actually be working until 4am on 6/30. And then he starts his new job bright and early the next day. We're so pumped about this job though, because after 18+ months of the strangest roller coaster ride imaginable, he's going to be part of a practice with two of the best doctors in town, where he's wanted to be (and they've wanted him to be) for the last few years. It's local, too, so we'll be staying in town - though hoping to move to a different suburb in the next year or so.

So apparently it takes a novel to even remotely catch up on what we've been doing, and still I hardly got into anything!

I think of you all often, get some updates from Amy on occasion and really enjoy keeping in touch with some of you on FB or via email. I would love to hear what everyone is up to... please find me and say hello if you feel so inclined! :wizard:

And since my signature is apparently about a year old, for those of you we haven't "seen" in a while:

Jen - did you get any word yesterday?

The first "wave" of pink slips went out on Thursday--Thankfully, I did not get one, but I am not "in the clear"--We can apparently find out until June 30--so its going to be a long couple of months. There are some meetings coming up to talk about ways we can save these teachers' jobs. I am close to those at our school that got slips so I want to do what I can to help save them!

Deb - poor Colby. :wizard: that the meds take away the itch soon. Will your ER visit not be covered under insurance?

It should be covered under our insurance, but we have a high deductible (the lowest offered  through Chris' employer) and we no longer qualify for the VT medicaid program as we make too much :rotfl2: I have been told that you cannot walk into that ER for less than $1200.

Jennifer the girls are too stinkin cute. The pigtails are over the top cute :goodvibes I know that you think you're busy now, but trust me it just gets busier as they get older. I never realized that I'd learn to juggle...everything in my life just to be where they need to be when they need to be.

Oh, I'm sure of it! The guys Kyle is going to work with swore they see less of their wives with this job than they did in residency, but I'm pretty sure it has more to do with the fact that they have school-aged kids running in all different directions than the actual job itself. We have a little while longer to enjoy the lack of sports/extracurricular schedules! The busyness we have now is entirely by my choice - I LOVE being home with the girls and can't imagine my life any differently, but also can't stand feeling "idle"! This kind is nice though, because I can pull the activities plug whenever I need a break. ;)

ETA: Sorry to read about Colby's visit to the ER. I hate the cost associated with those visits, and you guys need a break from doctors in your household, no?!

Thanks for the sweet comments about the girls. The pigtails are sort of a poor excuse for pigtails, but are totally out of necessity - that girl's hair is OUT OF CONTROL most of the time! :rotfl:

I am feeling better today. I slept a long time, but the therapist said I would. I did a lot of reading up on Vertigo and the inner ear and it is amazing. Who knew???? :goodvibes:lmao:

Jennifer, the girls are adorable! I actually loved 2, but then again I think I've loved every age with the possible exception of 19. :rotfl: My oldest cried when he turned 3 saying, "I'll never be 2 again." (And I didn't say anything of the sort, so he didn't get it from me.)
