DDA Chapter 24

I have a strange question...

I am in the process of getting Christmas gifts for my preschoolers (3-4 year olds). We always buy a book from the Scholastic book club points that we have for each child. I usually stick something else in, too. This year I have a class of 14. This part of the gift will be out of my own pocket, so I can't spend a lot per child. I was just out sewing Christmas pillowcases for Miles and Laura and remembered that MIL recently gave me a stash of children's print fabric. So, would a pillowcase be cute or weird?

Please be honest. I'd rather my friends tell me it's a bad idea than hear whispers from the preschool moms. ;)

I would love it because the teacher made them!! (and there never seems to be enough pillowcases in my house)

I am delighted that the four of us have decided once again to skip presents this year. The trip is our big gift and the girls will buy us dinner one night while we are there. So it all is perfect.

I do understand that Santa cannot leave that kind of gift under your kiddies' trees! So... Good luck to all of you! :)
I hate to say it, but it would make Christmas shopping so much easier for me if the jig were up. :rolleyes1 But until then, Santa needs to come up with cool gifts where the entertainment value is more than 30 minutes.

I did up getting a few things, so I'm making a dent. If I only knew what to get Bob. :confused3

Poor Elizabeth seems flustered....she sat on the plane for quite some time last night...then she sat on ME for quite some time. And to top things off, they lost her checked bag....so they don't have proper shoes for the massive rain that looks like is going on there. :sad2:
OH MY WORD!! I don't think I would have termed her temperment "flustered". :scared1::scared1::scared1:

Thanks, Kristine!! :goodvibes

24 hours from now I will be well on my way! Unless... you are not going to believe this...

It was 68 here yesterday and for tomorrow the weather forecast calls for our first "measurable" snow! I am hoping to be up and over those storm clouds before anything frozen begins to fall. I may leave here earlier than I had planned just to beat the weather. I will update as I know what the heck is expected.
Really? I hadn't heard that, so I just checked Doug Hill's forecast. Sounds like, as usual, north and west of us. But I know that is the direction of the airport. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Tammi, I layed out all the presents & did my wrapping & after all I spent it looks like nothing! Wii games, DS games, & books do not take up alot of space.
So I bought snuggies for all 3. Its a big box & I know my kids curl up with the blanket on the couch so I thought it was a good idea...maybe your kids would like them?
I know Alyssa wants one! Not sure about Nicholas. He is always hot.

Tia - YAY for extra money.

Beth - I think the pillowcase is a good idea.

okay going to go play with the girls in this rare white thing falling from our sky.

I am flying out of National this trip. My flight is at 9:00 so I plan to leave here no later than 6:30. I am hoping that will beat the frozen junk!

Forecast for Saturday December 05, 2009 - Fredericksburg, VA

Snow Early
High: 40°F
Low: 26°F

Chance of Precipitation 80%
Accumulation of 1 to 3 inches
Wind NW 12 mph
Humidity 76%

Elin,
I hope you get out before the snow comes!

Beth,
I like the pillowcase idea very much!:thumbsup2

Tia,
:thumbsup2 for your mom!

Tammi,
Does Bob like to read alot? I was thinking about getting Dana the Nook reader (its out of stock at barnes & noble) but they give you a voucher. It is supposed to come in early January.

Thanks all for the votes on the pillowcase idea. I am going to go down and inventory and wash my fabrics. :thumbsup2 I don't like to get cheap, junky toys. This way I can try to match fabric to personalities, too, but since they open them at home, I don't have to worry about kids getting upset with what they get vs. what someone else gets. This will only cost me a little thread and some time.

Both Laura and Miles want Snuggies. Laura has some suspicions that a friend of hers is getting one for her. So I may buy one for Miles. Matthew mentioned that the dorm room is so hot that they need to keep a window cracked, so I'm thinking that he won't want one (besides, I'm sure they are much to silly for him). Once again, that leaves him out of a gift idea. I hate to get Wii games to give him, since the Wii is at home with the rest of us. He doesn't have any other gaming system (except a PC). I'm sure I'll come up with something eventually. :thumbsup2

Elin, I sure hope that you beat the snow out of town! pixiedust:

I'm sorry to hear about Elizabeth's frustrations.

Well that's going to make for a cold Christmas parade tomorrow night.

Nope. He doesn't read at all. I'm the big reader of all of us, yet I don't get those Kindle or Nook things. I'd just as soon borrow a book from the library where it is free!

Off to get the kids from school, then to the allergist for Nicholas and dance for Alyssa. Have a good evening.

We're back at the resort drying off after spending the morning at AK, it has been raining all day but at least the crowds have been low. We're going to don our ponchos and head to the Christmas party in a bit.

Flustered must be an understatment

If you didn't want to do pillowcases, you could easily make a little book back with the same amount of fabric.

I'm sorry to hear about Elizabeth's frustrations.

When I was in college I was always hungry. How about a care package or a gift card to a local grocery store? A gift card for itunes or other music site. Shampoo, Deodorant

Glynis-The cinnamon buns sound good. What part of NY are you heading to and when and for how long?

By brother and his wife live in Syracuse. We are leaving here Sunday morning at 5:00, and will come home Thursday. It's a fast trip, but we'll be able to help out with the cleaning and cooking. Oh, and the spoiling of the baby!

My Katie really wants a Snuggie. I think that will be one of her gifts under the tree. It gets harder as they get older!

Deb,
I love the homemade ornaments. Olivia loves the Mickey and Minnie Ornament. She also loves the stickers.

I need to charge the camera batteries and then can take and post some pics.

How did you make the ornaments?

We used sculptey II clay. We rolled it out (though now we have the clay press that makes it 100 times easier) then used our Mickey Head cookie cutters to cut out the shape. Then we baked them in the oven. We found the scrapbook bottlecaps for some and did beading for others. Believe it or not everyone in my family, including my Dad particpated in making the ornaments this year. I actually went into Colby's class and did it with them today, using Christmas cookie cutters. We have also found that if you put grated crayone on the ornaments before you bake them it gives them a decorated look :goodvibes
