Deb...

I'm sorry you & your family are so sad...it's hard to lose any member of the family, human or pet. But don't let that stop you from sharing your life with another pet when you are ready.....a wise man once told me when I was feeling so sad after my dad died...."that this is the price you pay for love"

I had to share the most amazing cloud formation. I have never seen anything like it before!

Tomorrow morning I will drive up to Newport News to pick Krisitn up at the Amtrak station. Then she can spend the rest of the vacation with us. :)

Beautiful Elin!

Well said, Kristine.

It is a very sad day in our house. It turned out the Riley was much sicker than I thought and the Vet recommended that we put him down now. His eye was very infected and the tumor was putting a lot of pressure on it. He had actually scratched at it so much that part of the eye was gone :sad2: Hunter and Colby were with me so we spent some time with him then the boys left the room while she gave him the injection. I think the Vet cried as much as I did. She really became attached to him. While we were saying goodbye she went to her flower garden and picked us a big bouquet. We are having him cremated and will be able to pick up his remains after our vacation. The kids are upset, Hunter most of all since he considered Riley his cat. When we pick up the remains I will bring all of his extra food and fountains etc and donate them to other pet owners. We are done with pets in our home. It is just way too hard to say goodbye.

Sorry to hear this Deb

Elizabeth I hope your sty goes away quickly :wizard:

We had a heck of a storm roll though around 4am this morning. Winds were up to 80 mph & raining like the dickens. I woke up when the wind picked up & I was closing our windows when lightening struck our neighbors tree & then the tree fell onto the power lines. Two big booms & bright lights, scared the crap out of me :scared1: Our power was finally restored about 1/2 hour ago. Our street is still closed off due to the tree in the middle of the road. That was enough excitement for me for a while lol

ETA:Kristine did you all get any of this?

Janet

we got a ton of rain....no storms. But, there are some heading are way now...tons of hail predicted. Bill is in "emergency mode" :sad2:

Stay safe, this one sure caught us all by surprise!

Deb I'm so sorry - from what you've posted in the past few days, Riley certainly enjoyed his last days with the family being all lovey and cuddly with you guys. :grouphug:

Yikes! :scared1: Glad your power is back on, and glad you guys didn't get any damage!!

I am having a bit of a brain blip.

When I call for my DVC ressie at the 11 month mark, how many nights can I book? I seem to recall I won't be able to book all 12 at once. Of course I looked on the DVC site and can't find it. :sad2:

EDIT:

Never mind. I found a thread on the DVC forum where someone was asking the same thing. 7 nights in the first call, then day by day. THAT is going to be a PITA.

Deb...

I do understand what you are saying. Chris put it eloquently today...he said that when you love something as much as we love each other (pets included) sometimes we need to take the pain so that they may have relief. Riley clearly has disguised his pain well for many months while we got to enjoy his company, but now it is time for us to carry the pain of his loss so that he may feel no pain  I'm sure that he is snuggling with Tuffy in heaven now. :goodvibes

He seemed very happy right up to the end. The last 5 minutes was not good, but otherwise he was well snuggled.

We discussed future pets in depth and unless our circumstances change we cannot justify another pet. Chris and I work alot which means the house is pretty lonely alot. That combined with the kids activities makes having a pet seem unfair. Then there is our desire for 3 + week vacations. That requires a pet/house sitter or kenneling a pet (which we've never had the heart to do). The costs of being a pet owner have grown astronomically over the last 16 years. We used to be able to make one appoinment for all 3 pets, go in and have all their yearly shots for $45. Now it is $45 per pet to walk through the door and all the shots etc are on top of that. We never seem to get out of the vets office for less than $200. Add to that the cost of food and supplies and pets become a very costly venture. As a family we are growing more and more interested in travelling and given the choice we'd rather be able to go. We're not saying that we will never have a pet again, just not in the forseeable future.

Thank you for all the condolences. Each day will get a little easier. We still have a lot of his things that need to be cleaned and taken care of. We're going to give all the prescription meds and foods back to the vet. She was nice enough to give us a bunch of outdated meds when she had them so what we give back she will be able to give to other pet owners in need. We also have a couple of litter boxes and 2 pet fountains that she will be able to give out too. Hopefully our loss will help other pets have nice homes. Our vet has been a very nice lady and I was very touched when she was crying along with us over making the decision and over our loss. She truly did care for our little guy. I know that she didn't advise us lightly.

That sounds like the old grand gathering cruise too! Bob and I did that one with Jo and her son way back when...

Mickey & Minnie and Nicky & Ginny also had their reception on the grand gathering cruise with all the DDA that could attend. We had Hook & Smee before and Peter after as well.

I am the SOLE owner of my house!!!!!!

Closing is over. On the 23rd the checks will get mailed out to pay off the 1st and 2nd mortgages, and the money I need to buy XH out will be wired into my account. A new deed will be issued in my name only and filed with the county.

You have no idea what a weight off of my shoulders this is.

Definitely worth a celebration!!!!
