I don't understand this whole packing philosophy. :confused: Why pack so far ahead of time? What's the point? So you can stare at the suitcase? Have wrinkled clothes? Why have all those clothes if you aren't going to wear them? Someone please explain and get me out of the dark!!!! ;)

Tammi, do you have any advice on "ballet" hair? Mo has her recital coming up and I need help!!! I am hoping I can make it work with out resorting to shaving her bald and gluing a bun to her head.

:rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl2:

an entire jar of Dippity-Doo worked about 18 years ago for us!

Heidi - You had Bob and me rolling with your joke! Thank you. :goodvibes

So I should probably not tell Elizabeth that I want pack till 2 days before we leave as it is a Surprise trip again. We now have the girls beds in the same room and the other room is a play room so no place to hide the suitcases to pack them before then.

For me packing early is a way to assure that I have everything on hand and it spreads out the cost of anything I might need to pick up. As far as having a ton of clothes goes, I'm a pack rack. I pick up new stuff when I find a good clearance, but I rarely throw things out as A) it still fits and B) I don't wear things out. I really have no duplicate clothes :confused3 I really have only a few pair of shoes that I wear. I'm not a clothes person, I don't need a bunch of jewelry as I wear the same ones for the most part.

ETA: I am the definition of a type A personality so it makes sense. Chris is classic type B and could pack 5 minutes before we leave and it wouldn't bother him.

I refuse to get dressed "properly" to go to Super Target to buy groceries. There is just no reason to do that. T-shirt, sweatpants, baseball cap. Done. :rotfl:

I am glad that you don't subscribe to that whole "properly" dressed thing on the weekends.

Can you tell me, though, how many mom's down there pick up their kids in fur coats?

Ole vas vorking at the fish plant up north in Dulut vhen he accidentally cut off all ten of his finkers.

He vent to da emergency room in the Clinik and vhen he got dar da Norsky doctor looked at Ole and said, "Let's have da finkers and I'll see vhat I can do."

Ole said, "I haven't got da finkers."

"Vhat do you mean, you hafen't got da finkers?" he said. "Lord-it's 2009 and Ive's got microsurgery and all kinds of incredible techniques. I could haff put dem back on and made you like new! Vhy didn't you brink da finkers?"

Ole says........"How da fock vas I suppose to pick dem up?

:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2:Thanks for the laugh.

I will gladly cut my hair off and donate it to Mo for her ballet bun. :thumbsup2 Although my Aunt would probably kill me. I am not kidding.;) So she probably would not kill me but would not be happy that I cut my hair before her wedding. I have like 150 days before I can get a real hair cut. :rolleyes1

Lots of gel, and hairspray, a bun hairpiece. But if her hair is so short does she really need the hair piece? Could her hair just be slicked back? Does the ballet teacher have any ideas? I am sure she is not the first child with short hair to take ballet.

Good luck!

Can you get the hair here by Friday?;) I can send it back to you after next Friday.

It's not that her hair is so short, it's that it's choppy. She managed to, again, cut a bit more of her hair a few weeks ago. I need to purge my house of scissors.

I have never met the ballet teacher as Eric takes her each week.

Well, they aren't really "stick on", they need to be bobbi pinned. I assume any Walmart, Target, Claires would have them. I haven't really looked. And it might not come AS a bun, but a pony tail. Then I would bun it up.

Eric found it at Sally Beauty Supply, to the tune of $20. :eek:

Who knows.:confused: I usually pack the night before. And have been known to pack only hours before departure. That's just how I roll. :cool2:

So noted!!!! I guess I should practice tomorrow, so I'm not trying to do this last minute.

Oh, Kelli. I am so sorry. :hug:'s

Thanks! We're excited.

My grandpa died this morning, but all my family said to go ahead and go. Turns out my 2 cousins & my aunt and uncle have trips planned also within the next 2 weeks, so we'll have the memorial service on June 1.

I am completely Type A too, but as for packing, it would drive me nuts doing it early. A few days before I will start laying clothes and "trip only" type stuff (raincoats, pins, etc) out on the guest bed. Each one of us has a section. I'm visual, so that way I can "see" what all I have. As I lay it out, I cross it off of the packing list. The day before we leave I will put everything in a suitcase. Could that be the reason? :idea: I don't think Elizabeth has a "staging" area, so her stuff would go in the suitcase as she take it out. Maybe that holds true for you too? I think I might have uncovered the logic! :rotfl2:

Kelli - I am sorry about your grandpa. I hope you guys have a good trip.

You could subscribe to Elizabeth's philosophy and put her hair up 12 days before the recital, and leave it up! :rotfl:;)

I pack on paper first. I list everything I need to take by day and also make a list of incidentals (including jewelry) so that all I have to do a couple of days ahead of time is to grab what is on the list and check it off as it goes into the suitcase. My 3-1-1 bag stays packed and in my carryon all the time and I have and extra curling iron and hairbrush in there too.

Thanks! We're excited.

I do not have a staging area, it all goes into a suitcase as I dig it out. I also have to have the suitcases out way early or the cat will have a nervous breakdown. If I take them out early and leave them sitting around empty he gets used to them and doesn't stress. Yep, I've got a strange cat.

Thanks, everyone! :grouphug: Right now I'm worried about my dad. He hasn't really had a chance to break down yet and he's the one who found him this morning.

Today my oldest grandson graduated from preschool.

I got some cute pictures and this one video. you probably won't be able to hear the music but the kids are so cute. Caydn is in the first row with a green hat on the left side.
