DDA Chapter 19

Welcome home, Janet! I hope you and Gary had a restful vacation. Can't wait to hear about it! How was CSR?

CSR was wonderful! As Chanon said we got a new room & it looks as good as the pictures. I love the wood sliding doors instead of the curtains. The grounds are beautiful & make for lovely walks at night. I still think the Pepper Market is over priced, but if on the DDP it would be worth the cs credit. No problems with the buses, got to all the parks fairly quick.

I think this will be my resort of choice from now on ::yes:: Gary loved that it did not scream Disney & really liked the theming(sp). I just need to get the boys there now & see what they think!

 Amy.

How old is Matty? my cousins son is 2 and she is having trouble potty training him.

Elizabeth any suggestions??

2 year old boys typically do not like to use the potty! :rotfl2:
Once they are about 2 & 9 mos. or 2 & 10 mos. you can start working with them. Buy 3 or 4 books about using the potty. I like to have them sit on the potty after nap, and keep them in underwear until bath time. Use the potty every hour. Anytime he sits on the potty but doesn't go, return to the potty every 10-15 minutes until he DOES go, then try again an hour after that. You can NOT leave them and expect them to come tell you they need to go. At first you have to TELL them it is time to go sit on the potty.

Boys are motivated by different things. DS liked to have stickers for his shirt because he hates chocolate. Most of the kids I have trained like M&M's. 2 M&M's (their choice of colors) every time they use the potty. Princess liked M&M's AND stickers.

Brother was tough to potty train because his parents weren't working with him in the evenings. Pull-Ups are exactly like diapers, and after a child wets in a Pull Up once he will KNOW it is a diaper. Underwear is the way to go.

Tell your cousin not to push the issue, but don't give up unless he is REALLY rebelling and getting overly agitated and upset about it. I know in some cases the child simply isn't ready and the experts say "Turn it over to the child." But I also know a little boy who is 3 & 5 mos. and still in diapers because he can't be bothered to use the potty. Princess has been using the potty since she was 2 & 6 mos, but girls are easier to train.

Oh, and the BEST advice I have is NEVER NEVER tell a child it is "OK" to have an accident. It's not OK. It's an accident, but it is NOT OK! If you don't want to see a behavior repeated you don't tell them the behavior is OK! That sends a confusing message. Say "I forgive you." Say "Next time, use the potty!" Say "Your pee-pee goes in the potty." Say "It was an accident. Let's get cleaned up!" But do NOT say "It's OK." :)

I need some advice from those of you who have planned longer Disney trips (Anne Marie, Elizabeth, to name a few). We've got nine days planned in August. I am trying to do our itinerary and am so used to planning to be at a park at rope drop. Also, our trips are usually 5-6 days, so I pretty much plan something for everyday. But now I feel like I must slow down, stretch things out, sleep in and go later in the day, stay up later, have a non-park day. How do you do this, plus still make your ADRs? I've made a list of where I'd like to eat, but I have to somehow fit them into a schedule.

ETA: I take that back. I just checked and my waitlist for BLT came through, so now we will arrive on the 9th. We'll be there 8 days, not 9.

Do either Citricos or Narcoosee's have Wishes viewing like CG?

The boys are getting to where they do not like having ADR's everyday. They are also getting to where they like to do other things besides the park. So in Aug. last year we had a couple down days where we stayed at the resort or went to DTD. I like longer trips because you can take your time & do not feel so rushed to do everything. Sleeping in is something they like to do as well. Getting up early everyday is not their idea of a vacation lol I think with our next trip I am going to try the CS plan & if we stay at CSR, it would really be worth it. Plus we won't feel tied down to TS meals. Have fun planning!

This sounds like so much fun. I wish we could make it work out for us to join you, but... not this time. I know you all will have a ball!

And Tammi... :cool1: :dance3: :cool1: for BLT!

Ditto to both!

Arrgh! I've gotten 2 thanks but no thanks in the last 24 hours....one for the foundation I really wanted to work at....and I've gotten no response to an email I sent to the one interview I had on Friday. I am so frustrated!!!

Gee, I wonder if that is why I can't sleep?? and have had a dull to roaring headache the last 3 days??

Becky I hope you get the room situation taken care of :wizard: It was very nice to meet you!

Hi Wendy & welcome!

My application is completed, and my cover letter is almost done. I have contacted two out of the three references that I want to use, and I'll phone the other later today.
:wizard: Hope things go well with that! Sounds perfect for you!

Good morning, I am back :) I am going to try & catch up so I can read about what has been going on while I have been away.

For the most part I had a wonderful time, the weather was beautiful(freezing here now lol). I was able to meet up with Becky a few times but am saddened that I did not get to meet up with Vicki or Jennifer :guilty:

Will post more later, hope all is well with everyone!

9 days isn't long. I was just there with Lizzy and 8 days flew by. I would still do most early mornings like others have said and take mid day breaks rather than a full day off. BLT will be fun!

We always say we will swim, we always say we will go to the water park, we always say we'll go play mini golf. It never happens.

Of course last year it was so flippin' RAINY we wouldn't have been able to play mini golf!
We went mini golfing last year on the day of Tropical Storm Fay. We got on the Epcot bus thinking that would be a good park for a rainy day. Then the bus stopped at Blizzard Beach first (and folks got off to go there too) and we decided to get off and go mini golf. We just finished up when it started to rain a bit. We then went to the movies to see Wall*E.

I already subscribe to (Tales from the Laughing Place, Celebrations Magazine), and the two combined are still about 1/2 the cost of this!
How are those?

Arrgh! I've gotten 2 thanks but no thanks in the last 24 hours....one for the foundation I really wanted to work at....and I've gotten no response to an email I sent to the one interview I had on Friday. I am so frustrated!!!

 How frustrating!

My realtor just called. We have an agreement with our buyers & we now have a contract. Our closing on my NY house is at the end of June. Yay the kids won't have to leave until the school year is over. They do get a short summer since we get out late here in the northeast & they go back early (aug 25). I am so relieved that this house is in contract & we will have the new place at the end of this month. It has been very stressful on all accounts & to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel is just so great.

I do have a question...our new home will need new appliances in the kitchen. I'd like stainless steel. We need to buy fridge, stove, micowave.hood, & dishwasher. Also a clotheswasher & dryer. Can anyone reccommend a good/reliable brand?
:woohoo: How great to have a date!

What kind of stove? Electric or Gas? I have a Jenair ceramic top convection oven that I love. It makes great cookies-you can do 3 sheets at once and it does a great job on convenience foods like fish sticks and french fries because it circulates the heat around.

I also have a stainless fridge. It is as clean as the rest of my house.:rolleyes1 I will say I kind of like that you can't put magnets on stainless steel. The side of my fridge is white so the kids can hang whatever they want there (out of site basically).;)

My mom had her mamo today and the tech is not sure if she saw something around the scar area of the breast that had cancer, so she had an ultrasound done also. Now to wait on the results of the ultrasound.
 :wizard:

Anne Marie - :yay: for a firm contract and closing date!! As for your appliances... I agree with Tammi. What one of us likes might not be to your taste. I would swear by GE, based on what we own. However, our major appliances are REALLY old! ;)
I had a GE stove that was lousy.:rotfl2:

I'm back on page 46, but I wanted to let you all know I was back in Cincinnati. The kids and I had a great time visiting my family, and Kevin was very productive in our absence.

We got home Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. and at 6:00 p.m. Kevin and I left for the Billy Joel/Elton John concert. Though they can't hit the high notes as well anymore, they are still amazing singers, and we had a great time (especially people-watching ;) ).

Matty was thrilled with his big boy bed, and these past two nights, he hasn't given us any trouble with getting out of bed, etc. Now, if only potty-training him would be so easy. He claims he is "too little." Silly!

Yesterday, I had a wonderful conference with Alyssa's teacher, and I tried to tackle unpacking, laundry, etc. Poor Noah was pretty off-schedule, so he was a crabby-patty, but he's doing much better today. He's going through a little separation-anxiety when I leave the room though. And, he's still waking up at least twice a night. He's silly, too! :goodvibes

We have lots of things coming up: I'm hosting a shower for my SIL on 3/21, Alyssa and Kevin are in the church musical on 3/22, Alyssa's Webkinz birthday party is on 3/28, followed by a whirlwind of Easter activities.

I hope you are all well. I'll try to get caught up on the thread this weekend. Take care everyone! :grouphug:
Hi! Nice that you had a great time! Do we get to see photos of Matty's big boy room?

I've been super dizzy since about noon. I'm not sure if it is because the aquatics center is so hot or if something is brewing. My tummy is wonky too, but that seems to be the norm lately for me :confused3 I've decided to go to work and see how I do and go from there. It's kind of late to be calling in, but I was fine this morning.
:wizard: Hope it passes quickly!

The house has an electric glass top stove now so I know I would get electric (I much prefer gas) but I have never had a glasstop before (I have electric coils now) not sure if I would like a glasstop or not. I do not cook much, I boil & reheat basically!:rotfl2:

I just looked & I have a kenmore stove but 2 burners don't work (not that I would care:lmao: ) but its not so great & its 10 years old. My fridge is kenmore too but we had to buy that size to fit in the space. Given a larger space (which is what we will have in the new house) I would like to get a big fridge with the freezer drawer in the bottom.

Dana wants to gut the whole kitchen & start from scratch so I am sure I will be asking your opinions on design & hopefully posting pictures soon.

Well even though I hated to leave Disney & the wonderful weather it is good to be home & see my boys :goodvibes Of course when I go to work tomorrow I may change my mind lol

This trip was a little different for me, Gary is not a big fan of Disney. I was hoping though that with just the two of us it might be different. We did have some good days & enjoyed being together, but if Gary ever goes again I will be really surprised. This does sadden me as I love Disney very much & wish we could share this together. But I would rather go alone or with my boys than to go again with someone who just isn't in to it. I know I am sounding like a downer, but I will not sugar coat it.

I tried to make the best of it & I think I did. Mk is my favorite park & I think I maybe got a total of 4 hours there. Some was my fault & some because that is the one park Gary really does not like. We did have full days at Epcot & DHS, but we did not make it to AK.

At MK I was able to at least ride my 2 favorites, HM & POC. At Epcot we rode TT, Soaring, & SE & at DHS, TSM(Gary did think this was fun)& TGMR. So as you can tell not much was done at the parks besides a lot of walking & looking.

The only TS meals we made it to were Cape May & Beirgarten. We did eat at Pecos Bills(new for me), Tangerine Cafe, Maya Grill for breakfast(wasn't really hungry so did not enjoy very much), Big River Grill(new to me), Cookes Of Dublin(did not like the taste of the batter on the fish), & the Pepper Market(great steak fajitas!).

We enjoyed walking around the resort at night as it is very beautiful. I did try a few new drinks, which is something I normally do not do beings I am usually with the boys.

The parks for the most part were not to crowded or at least not to me. The weather was perfect even though a couple of nights it did get pretty chilly.

I came home with a cold & a sunburn ;)

Not sure when my next trip will be, but I am looking forward to it as are the boys.

I love Gary very much & I know he does me too & I guess he did try as well, but it just didn't happen on this trip.

So there you have it & please don't feel bad for me, I did get to go to Disney after all :)

Thanks Elizabeth, he just turned 2 on 2-28

Bernadette after buying my new glass top stove, I said damn I should have gotten a convection oven.

Ann Marie my salesman at Sears would not sell you a fridge with the freezer drawer. He said they are the worst, because if opening and closing it a lot the drawer wears out fast. Also if you don't get it closed completly then everything will thaw. And then there is the, if you don't remember to rotate your food, you wind up with freezer burnt food.

Janet I am sorry that Gary just doesn't like Disney  but as long as he doesn't mind you and the boys going all is good.

I am very lucky, John loves Disney just as much as me. :goodvibes After all he finally agreed to DVC.

Anne Marie - good luck with the appliance shopping!! I agree - you'll get so many different opinions. We bought a Kenmore Elite fridge when we moved into our house (sellers took their fridge with them), and for the most part, it's been a good buy. We have builder-grade GE appliances for microwave, oven, and dishwasher, though - must say, I will probably steer clear of GE if I were ever looking to purchase. The oven has had a lot of work on it (thankfully covered by our home warranty), and we're likely going to need to replace the dishwasher very soon (doesn't dry very well and it is LOUD!!). Jonathan was researching dishwashers just last weekend, and we're thinking of replacing ours with a KitchenAid or Bosch (the latter, probably because it's slightly cheaper). My parents have KitchenAid appliances and love them. My Maytag w/d are over 10 years old, and still working great (knock on wood!).

Heidi - lots of prayers and :wizard: for your mom. When will you guys get the results?

Theresa - I'm sorry that you didn't get great news today. That perfect job is out there for you - I know it!

Amy - welcome home! I hope the next few weeks go well for you - sounds busy!

Janet - I'm sorry the trip didn't go exactly as you might have hoped, but I'm glad you found the silver lining to it.

Bernadette - Tales from the Laughing Place is very, very well done. The photographs are absolutely stunning - they're very artsy, and taken from angles/of things that I would just never think to do. Jonathan loves looking at what they print. It's of a very high quality, too. The only thing I don't like is they don't have a very consistent production schedule. You're promised 4 issues a year, but they really don't have set release dates.

I like Celebrations, too, and I'm cutting them some slack as they find their footing. It's done by people with a lot of Disney knowledge, so I hope it improves. Their production is pretty good, but I find their articles a bit short and somewhat juvenile/obvious - nothing there that a good Disney fan likely doesn't already know. I do have faith that it will get better, though - I'm thinking maybe they're doing a lot of "obvious" features first (like the issue all about the holidays at WDW), but they'll have to dig deeper once those things run out.

All in all - I'm pleased, and they're NOT $16 an issue! :thumbsup2

Oh, he is WAY too young. She needs to leave him alone for about 8 more months and then think about introducing the potty. :)

I learned this the hard way with Garrett, I tried to early with him & had a hard time. With Riley I waited & one morning he woke up with a dry diaper & never wore one again.
